I think this is likely the correct course. I don't believe from what I saw that this was a shooting that was motivated by race. I think what we see in this case and in many others is an absolute failure in training and tactics that causes police to view the public as adversaries first and foremost which in turn leads to the use of deadly force far too quickly when other tactics/measures ought to be employed. This failure of training harms both the public and the police officers and lets both of them down. Change the training and change the outcome.
