That stings a little...

Just wait until both Pritchett and Quick go to Bama.  I believe they literally got the #1 and #2 OTs in the nation last year and then will get the two top ranked OTs again in our proximity.  Would be nice if they set their sights higher and got some top ranked kids while we were left with some crappy 100th ranked Tackle

Love to see lesser schools like Kentucky, FSU, VT, and Arkansas in there over us.

Kids from Columbus.  I'm 100% positive we've never gotten a kid from there, ever.  So it shouldn't be surprising.

Gabe Wright came from Carver HS in 2011.  I believe Dell McGee came from Kendrick HS.  But you are right as we should have gotten more from that area.  They may want to go off to school and feel that Auburn is too close to home.

Yeah was being a bit sarcastic.  Seems like we always miss a lot of guys from close by

I detected sarcasm but a lot of frustration and some truth there also. I try to be positive and optimistic but it sure looks to me that Story and Quick are just waiting for the UAT offers. Hope for wins but prepared for losses.

Yeah agree on both.  Long way to go, but it looks like we might get completely shut out of the top 10 kids in Alabama for 22.  There isn't a kid in the top 15 leaning our way.

June 1st needs to get here quick so our coaches can get out on the road.  Covid is really hurting us more than any new staff.  If we have 2 bad classes in a row, it'll really hurt down the road.

I like the idea of setting up a lot of kids with OVs in June.  Hopefully this pays off.  I'd love to see us get 5-7 commits and start building some momentum.

Updated 4/26

Getting a little bit better feel for the class now with OV's being scheduled.

Quarterback (1) 1 Committed

4* Pro-Style Holden Geriner | 6'3" 210 lbs | Savannah, GA | Committed 02/01/2021 - visiting June 11th

No other quarterbacks have been mentioned for quite some time; we may be done here for the 2022 class.

Running Back (2)

4* Damari Alston | 5'11" 205 lbs | Atlanta, GA | Bonding well with Cadillac.

4* Omarion Hampton | 6'0" 215 lbs | Clayton, NC

3* Quinshon Judkins | 6'0" 195 lbs | Pike Road, Al | Re-offered by new staff. Continues to be the name mentioned the most at the position for us. Penn State is the team to beat.

Wide Receiver (3)

4* Darrius Clemons | 6'3" 205 lbs | Portland, OR - visiting June 4th

4* Antonio Williams | 6'0" 180 lbs | Irmo, SC

Tight End / H-Back (1)

3* Micah Riley-Ducker | 6'6" 235 lbs | Bellevue, NE - visiting June 11th (unofficially visited once during the winter)

4* Riley Quick | 6'5" 260 lbs | Trussville, AL

3* Eston Harris Jr. | 6'6" 275 lbs | Opelika, AL

3* Maleek McNeil | 6'8" 330 lbs | Easthampton, MA

3* Jacob Hood | 6'8" 342 lbs | Nashville, TN - visiting June 4th

Offensive Guard (2)

No names mentioned currently which is a little concerning for a line filled with RS Seniors. Transfer or JuCo targets maybe? Some of the OT targets might be considered as moves to the inside.

Center (1)

No names yet but, unless there's someone on the roster the coaches love, Brahms will be gone within a year or two.

Defensive End (1-2)

4* Quency Wiggins | 6'6" 265 lbs | Baton Rouge, LA - visiting June 25th

Outside Linebacker (2)

4* TJ Dudley | 6'1" 220 lbs | Montgomery, AL

3* Omar Graham Jr. | 6'1" 205 lbs | Ft Lauderdale, FL - visiting June 25th

Cornerback (1 more) 2 Committed

3* Jarell Stinson | 5'10" 160 lbs | Opelika, AL - committed to Auburn 12/14/20 - visiting June 18th

4* Toriano Pride | 5'11" 172 lbs | St Louis, MO - visiting June 25th

3* Anthony Brown | 6'2" 192 lbs | Milan, TN

NR Dominick Fields | 6'0" 180 lbs | Jacksonville, FL

Athlete

3* Ja'Kobi Albert | 6'0" 175 lbs | Fairfield, AL - visiting June 18th

3* Trevion Williams | 6'5" 250 lbs | Crystal Springs, MS - Auburn likes him at LB but he also plays QB

NR Jalyn Daniels | 5'10" 170 lbs | Tallassee, AL - doesn't currently hold an offer but just attended a camp at Auburn running a sub 4.4 40 time and was the star of the one-on-one receiver drills. Currently plays RB and stated Auburn would be a dream offer.

Kicker (1)

NR Alex McPherson | 5'10" 155 lbs | Ft Payne, AL - brother of Florida kicker and Auburn has been pursuing heavily. For a kicker he's being heavily competed for by other major programs.

Decommits (2)

3* CB Brian Dilworth

3* CB Andre Stewart

Added some guys and crossed out Shemar James. He dropped a top two without us in it and says his planned OV is up in the air. Stings for sure but DeMario is a good plan to pivot towards.

With all the O-Line people we seemed to have offered I was hoping to see some positive news. I have to admit this was disappointing. It seems like we have offered a 1000 O-line but so far it doesn't seem like we have made any headway on any of them. Not one in the list seemed to say leaning towards Auburn.

Yeah, I do think Auburn is something that has to be experienced compared to other places. We don't really have recent success of NFL success to sell (not compared to our rivals) and Harsin isn't a household name (especially in these parts) yet. Add that our facilities are sub-par right now (heading in the right direction) and that the staff is a full year behind on recruiting some of these kids and it becomes rough.

June and July will be huge for us. Hoping the staff has something innovated planned for the Official Visits. Georgia got a lot of mileage last cycle with their scavenger hunt visit. Word is our virtual visits have really done well but that only gets you so far.

I'm optimistic that our staff will blow recruits away similarly to how several of our previous staff did. If you go through the staff name by name, there's some serious rock star appeal even if the name recognition isn't there yet. But like y'all said, that's why we've got to start getting that face time. (The real kind.) I'm hoping that they can sell that same family feel while being a little more assertive in closing some recruits early.

4-star DT from NY has strong bond with Eason, Auburn

Jeffrey Lee • AuburnSports

Senior Editor

@JLeeAURivals

Defensive line is one of the top positions of need for Auburn in the 2022 class, and Kaleb Artisi isone of the top targets.

Artis, a 4-star from Long Island, N.Y., doesn’t have any doubts about where he sits on Auburn’s board.

“They are recruiting me hard,” Artis said. “I hear from Auburn quite frequently. I’ve been talking to them a lot since they offered in February.”

Artis speaks mostly with defensive line coach Nick Eason and defensive line graduate assistant Gary Walker Jr. Artis has quickly developed a bond with both.

“I like them a lot,” Artis said. “Coach Eason is a cool dude, an honest dude. He’s a great guy to talk to and get to know. He gets to know you and your family as well. He’s a real genuine person and that’s what I like. We connect. He sees the potential in me, knows what I want. We talk about all sorts of things. It’s not just about football. He’s a great guy.”

Artis has not met Eason, but will get the chance in June. Artis is set to take an official visit to Auburn June 4-6.

“I am looking forward to that,” Artis said. “I’m looking forward to finally seeing Coach Eason and Coach Walker in person, and the other coaches on the staff and everybody else as well.”

Artis also is looking forward to seeing Auburn’s campus and facilities. His knowledge about the school is somewhat limited.

“I know Auburn just had a few guys drafted and I know it’s big-time football in the SEC,” Artis said. “Auburn is a great organization and well known and they also are building a new football facility. I really want to learn more, get some more knowledge on these guys. I’m intrigued. It’s why I’m taking an official. I want to see what they have to offer.”

One thing Auburn offers is an opportunity for early playing time, Artis said. Two defensive linemen – Jaren Handy and Jay Hardy – entered the transfer portal on Monday.

“That’s what I’m looking for,” Artis said. “I want to go to a place that has a spot for me. I don’t want to go to a place that’s backed up. Auburn is recruiting me as a defensive end, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they threw me in at tackle as well. I can do it all up and down the line. I’m strong. I’m quick. I’m intelligent. Whatever they want me to do I will do it.”

Staying close to home isn’t a priority for Artis. That’s good news for Auburn, considering it’s nearly 1,000 miles from Long Island.

“I don’t care where a school is located as long as it has everything necessary to get me to the next level and achieve everything I need to academically and in my football career,” Artis said.

In addition to Auburn, Artis has official visits scheduled to Penn State (June 11-13), Virginia (June 18-20) and Indiana (June 25-27). Florida State, Notre Dame and Rutgers round out his top group.

Rivals ranks Artis, who is 6-foot-5 and 291 pounds, the No. 2 overall recruit in the state of New York and No. 21 defensive tackle in the 2022 class.

See why I'm worried about us becoming Tennessee? Maybe our fortunes change when the mother of all dead periods ends but I truly believe we screwed up big time by not hiring Napier. If we truly couldn't get our first however many choices, then what does that say about where we're headed as a program?

Looking at our roster this is how I would use our 2022 recruiting spots (assuming we have 25 to use).

Quarterback (2)

I think Grant Loy will leave and with the transfer of Chayil we'll be down to just two scholarship quarterbacks (not counting Geriner until he's signed and on campus same goes for all three of our commits)

Running Back (3)

This really depends on whether or not we take a transfer running back in the 2021 class (doesn't seem like there's any buzz around this idea). Shaun Shivers likely won't use his additional COVID year and Devan Barrett is out of eligibility. Leaving us with only Tank (who if he continues his trajectory is a candidate to declare early) and Jarquez Hunter. Two is the absolute minimum we'll need to take in 2022.

Wide Receiver (3)

Not an immediate need with a lot of young guys on the roster but I think there has to be some foresight here. We have a lot of our current WRs in the same class (meaning the likelihood for someone to transfer or have a huge group exiting at once is really high). If we take a transfer with one of our last 2021 spots I would bump this down to a two minimum. I'm assuming Caylin Newton and Shedrick Jackson don't return with their additional COVID year.

Tight End (1)

We have four Tight Ends returning assuming Shenker leaves. Would like to add one a year and keep that position stocked considering we'll likely have a lot more 12-personnel packages and feature the position well.

Offensive Tackle (2)

The offensive line needs to be restocked and we need to make sure to take real OT's not tweener's under 6'5". Need guys who, when looking at measurables, could realistically make it to the next level. We have eight seniors in the OL position group right now; if there's a position for coaches to urge someone to use the additional year this would be it.

Offensive Guard (2)

Again, restocking this position group has to be a priority. Will Friend needs to be a rockstar for us. Would like for us to grab two players here that can be road pavers in a more run-heavy system.

Center (1)

Brahms is a senior, Jernigan is a center but not highly rated, and Irvin could play center but it wouldn't be ideal. Would like to see us get a top tier center if at all possibly who's capable of competing right away.

Defensive Tackle (2)

Despite some complaints about our numbers here we actually have 7 players at this spot. If we end up playing a lot of 3-4 it's not as crucial to have higher numbers here. Walker/Hunter/Butler/Wright/Pegues should all return with valuable playing time from this season. Taking two here makes sense to avoid attrition from transfers and head-scratching early departures.

Defensive End (1)

Some of the DT's mentioned above will see time at this DE position as well in 3-4 looks. We definitely need an impact guy here but I don't know that we need more than 1 unless there's a stud wanting in this class.

Edge (1)

With Brooks and Leota we all of a sudden looks well-stocked. If Derrick Hall leaves early it might be better to take two here instead. Again, I really like the group we have here and its upside.

Linebacker (2)

This is a spot that concerns me a little bit. McClain will be gone after this year and I wouldn't be surprised if Owen Pappoe has a solid year and considers leaving early too. That would bump our need up here but there's a lot of talent we've gotten in previous years I'm waiting to see shine (Riley, Steiner, Height, Joko, and others are incredibly athletic).

Cornerback (2)

McCreaery, Domio, and Askew should all be gone. Miller (transfer from West Virginia) insists he's going to be 1-and-done at Auburn so we'll see if that holds true. We have a lot of unproven talent coming up and we could really use some high caliber guys coming in with big shoes to fill behind McCreary.

Safety (2)

We have a lot of numbers here and I think we're seriously in play for Haufman in the 2021 class (transfer from Vandy with 4 to play I believe). This might be a position where we only take one safety in order to open spots for another position.

Kicker (1)

Little McPherson is a must get at the kicker position and he'll 100% be taking a scholarship from whatever team he chooses to play for. He won't boost our team recruiting rankings but he'd be a 5* level impact for us.

I'd bump your OT # to 3+.  We have Hamm, Jackson, Troxell, Zierer, Coffee, Sammons and Colby Smith is coming in.

How many will be here after next season?

With the increased occurrence of transfers, do y’all think it will ever be a possibility that they change the rule to where you still can sign 25 people a class, but you can sign as many incoming transfers as you have outgoing transfers?

For instance, you still sign 25 high schoolers, but if you had 7 players transfer out, you could still sign 7 additional transfers.

DB target Jaylen Lewis releases top schools

Jaylen Lewis, a 3-star defensive back from Brownsville (Tenn.) Haywood, revealed a top 10 Wednesday and not surprisingly Auburn made the list. It's more evidence the Tigers are a factor for Lewis, who is listed at 6-feet-2 and 175 pounds.

Also making the cut: Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Oregon State.

The Tigers have recruited him for both corner and safety — yet Auburn defensive coordinator/safeties coach Derek Mason has talked to him a lot lately about the possibility of succeeding Smoke Monday in the Tigers’ secondary.

“Me and Coach Mason were on a Zoom call the other day and he said I’m going to replace Smoke (at free-safety), so they’re really talking, more about safety,” Lewis told Auburn Undercover recently. “That’s big player, so to fill his shoes would mean a lot if I attend that school. He’s a very good player. I watch his play a lot.”

Lewis is rated as the No. 53 cornerback in the country for the industry generated 247Sports Composite.

He has locked in an official visit with the Tigers for June 15-17. Michigan State (June 4), Oregon State (June 11), Oklahoma (June 18) and Indiana (June 25) will get his other officials.

“The visits are going to mean a lot,” Lewis said. “What school wants me the most?”

Lewis hasn't just told reporters he likes Auburn; he has told his friend.

Of the Tigers, he added in April, “They’re recruiting me hard. Every day, Coach Mason and (defensive analyst Bryce Lewis) send me messages.”

According to Lewis, he recently had a virtual visit with the Tigers and one thing stood out.

“I liked the facilities,” Lewis said. “They showed me a preview of the new facilities they’re working on and I loved that a lot.”

Even though Lewis plans to take all five official visits in June, he’s in no hurry to make a commitment decision. That, he said, might not happen until “during season.”

Three-star safety Anthony Brown, also of Tennessee, said this about Lewis when Brown was offered by Auburn last week:  “He just got an offer from them and he love loves Auburn, so we would have the opportunity to play with each other at the next level.”

From the mouth of Allen Greene...."The rumor a coach in this state interviewed and was offered by Auburn simply is not true".  Rumors Rumors, Rumors.
