It's really strange that Mikey keeps touting that class when he knows how few players from it actually had what anyone would consider good Auburn careers. Some of them gave us a good season or two. Very few of them provided on-field production or even quality depth for 3-4 years. That class is hardly some lofty goal to emulate unless you prefer recruiting victories to football victories.

Highly ranked coming in which was the comparison point I believe.

That class was bi-polar

Perhaps, but without that class there is no 2010 national championship. Bi-polar or not, they ranked #4 and were recruited by a staff that had been at Auburn exactly the same amount of time as our current staff.

Was the excuse of "it takes time to build relationships"  temporarily suspended for the 2010 recruiting class?

He can make that the point if he wishes, but what has been explained to him repeatedly is that Harsin is purposefully choosing football players who will contribute to a sustained winning culture over a(n almost) literal paper tiger.

Mikey is trying to criticize Harsin for failing to do something that he's not even attempting to do, and using the perfect example of why not to attempt it as the bar.

Harsin's staff and the recruits couldn't visit each other until more than 7 months into his tenure. Did the 2010 class deal with that?

Also relevant…did Harsin previously coach at Auburn like Chizik did?  Pretty sure that helped the “time to build relationships” just a tad 😂

The 4*s we're still (at least kind of, in Williams' case) in play for:

4* LB Robert Woodyard
4* CB JaDarian Rhym
4* DT Jeffrey M’ba
4* CB Austin Ausberry
4* DL Khurtiss Perry
4* RB Trevonte Citizen
4* WR Antonio Williams
4* LB Demario Tolan
4* OL Antavious Woody

Which of these guys are signing this month?

Don’t think we getting Woody. He said he’s still solid to FSU and didn’t go to the iron bowl

No.

No, though Chizik had been gone for four years and most of his staff had never been at Auburn. Not sure how he could have retained relationships with high school players while he spent four years out west.

None of that explains the difference between #4 nationally and #36, which is where we are right now. Hopefully we can pick it up a bunch, but remember, everybody else will be adding players too.

You do realize building relationships has a ton to do with HS coaches right?

But this is the issue so many people have. We hired a guy with no relationships with the HS coaches in the geographic area that we recruit vs the area that he has historically recruited. No one knew him. HS players don't know him.  I doubt half of our existing players on the team knew who he was when he was hired. Why do you think other teams have had extremely successful recruiting classes as soon as they hired a new coach. All HS coaches knew Kirby, Nick, Lane, etc. Even Beamer at SC and Hueple (sp) and Leach had more name recognition and relationships than Harsin. That is why we are after the same kids that Baylor and Texas Tech are. This mantra of waiting on 2023 class will be a killer for the program. It means we have 2 sub par recruiting classes.

My point is, if building relationships was an insurmountable necessity for successful recruiting, Chizik & co. couldn't have signed the nation's #4 class in 2010.

It can be done without years of building relationships.  Look no farther than that class for proof.

Nick Saban and Urban Meyer had zero ties to the South when they moved to the SEC.

Not saying Harsin is anywhere near those two, but point being the "ties to the area" thing can be overcome.
