So fiddy, your question is how do we catch up with bammer again?..the most corrupt machine in sports history. Lot of have been trying to figure that one out for more than fifty years.

Get rid of the NCAA.  The governing body would be made up of a representative from each of the schools in the P5 conferences which would eliminate someone like Mark Emmitt protecting alabama.

I never thought about scholarship reductions, but I could see how it could work. I read that the NCAA once stated 65-75 scholarships was the ideal number for a football program.

The big impact would be in smaller annual recruiting classes.

Fewer scholarships would also allow for the re-tightening of transfer rules, as fewer scholarship athletes would lack playing time.

The last thing it would help is Title IX issues. If we reduced football scholarships it might be possible to give more full scholarships to baseball, or to make men’s soccer plausible for football schools.

The counter argument would be the reductions would roll downhill to a point where football players who might have been competitive for a Division II scholarship will not be able to get one.

I just disagree

11 starting O 11 backup O

11 starting D 11 Backup D

11 starting ST (ideally separate from the O & D starters)

You're already at 55, realistically we know with injuries you need a 3 deep at almost every position.

This is a socialist solution if I ever saw one..😉

Seriously, all this does is move the corruption to the point system.

Cant you visualize the phone call?

Nick: “Hey, you know that guy you have as a 5 star? I need him to be 3 star, aight?...”

i disagree. the ncaa tried to bring parity in in football by making sure all colleges could only have the same number of schollies so the rich would not have an unfair advantage about it. that socialist dog does not hunt and should be brought up in politics. that word gets thrown around too much. lets leave politics in the political boards please.

Players are already compensated  to the tune of $100s of thousands of dollars a year at a school like Auburn.

Exactly so i for one have zero sympathy for them. Thy have a lot more amenities than the average student who, for example, don't have a $91M facility on the way.

The compensation stuff is bull IMO. They were here having to beg for shoes and stuff, let's not pretend they live some super lifestyle better than most students.......

bear just thought he knew how to cheat.......

60-65 is all that is needed.  The game will phase out KO eventually.  For punting you don't need 11 different players.  Most kickoff guys are backups anyway.  If the NFL can play with 55, allowing 10 more on college rosters will suffice for backups and practice squad.

Best way...separate the sport from college altogether and have a draft.  I suppose you could have a University sponsor a minor league team and we can all pretend its Auburn. They can even rent our facilities.

Or, the sport could become like college baseball and players have the option to go pro out of high school.  Either way, the players who have real value in the market can make $ off of it without having to deal with the school part.

And for all the "socialism" comments...the system we have now is more socialism than anything.  We can come up with a million reasons why giving $100,000+ to an 18 year old who may or may not have good financial guidance is a bad idea, but it's America.  Once an adult, people should have the right to fail miserably, or prosper immensely.   For some, this may be the height of their marketable value...let them profit while they can.

And another thing, it's not the kind of socialism you're thinking of if it's voluntary.  If parity measures are too socialist for Auburn we always choose not to be a part of the system...maybe AU could go D2?

It would be off topic but boy am I having flashbacks of college as a wrestler. Would literally buy a loaf of bread, honey, peanut butter, and make that into 3 meals a day.

Isn't it funny how these coaches get paid millions of dollars a year to line up and literally beg these kids to come play at their school, but it's the players that should be grateful for that scholarship that 30 other schools wish they could have given them...

What people don't realize is the image and likeness stuff would simply let them profit on jersey sales, streaming on YouTube, and other things like autographs. It wouldn't be schools giving them a salary or signing bonus.

And that's all I'm advocating for. Lol at people saying that this will give the power programs an advantage that they don't already have with 8-digit salary budgets and 9-digit facilities budgets and recruiting "infrastructure" that already procures players that other programs can't get.

In our supposed “free market” system sure seems like it should be allowed, but I see an impossibility to keep routing of monies to get recruits to the wealthy’s favorite Universities.

I agree guys, it was one guy who is actually a you tuber that I follow now and he was given the ultimatum to stop streaming or give up football.....And he was a kicker! That's sad and pathetic. It's almost like people don't want the kids to make money? And coincidentally they are the same people that complain about more taxes or whatever because they don't want to give out " hand outs"

Win, recruit well, develop.  Invest in facilities, programs, etc.  Repeat, repeat, repeat.  Dominate recruitment and development of the trenches.  Your college football program is essentially a NFL major for every recruited player.  And just like every other major at Universities, there is only so much room and some have better professors and research centers.   The system isn’t broken, but the teams on top have built a reputation and it takes work to move up.

@aubiefifty Not possible. The P5 conferences would bolt if the NCAA tried to do something like that.

No. The P5s would walk.

I think a better solution would be a cap on the total points allowed for each school for a recruiting class

To be brutally honest that is arbitrary & dumb. The results of a recruiting class should not be decided by a bunch of coach potatoes, many of whom never played, And can't evaluate talents nowhere near good as coaches can.

If you want to “level the playing field,” whatever that means, you would allow boosters to pay kids whatever they want to get them to sign. Whether through NIL or under the table.

There’s no social justice in sports lol some schools are awful at football because they don’t care about football. If they did they would probably have more football supporters on the board and the administration. Some schools make bad hires. Some schools choose to invest in other sports.

Even if it were just P5 schools you’re still going to have losers because this is competition.

I think there is only one way to fix College Football and keep it from falling further and further into the depths of irrelevance and regional.

College football is nowhere near irrelevant. It's the 2nd most popular sports in the States behind the NFL.
