Auburn 2022 Recruiting Board: Offensive Line

Auburn Recruiting Board OL edition. We will take a look at who Auburn seems to be heavily targeting.

A few things about the OL position. It is still unclear who some of the options are here. I’ve included the names that I have heard from sources as well as by the offers that have been sent out.

My sources have made it clear there are more names involved as well as some who are still yet to be offered. Bottom line is there will be more names as we move forward.

For now, we have a good idea of who is at the top. Take a look and learn what these guys would bring to the table if they decide to spend their future at Auburn.

I appreciate everyone‘s help to this point with getting our recruiting boards out to the Auburn family. Please help me again to get this to the entire Auburn family per usual.

AU Interest Level: 𝙷𝙸𝙶𝙷

There are a few guys sitting at the top of AU’s OL board; If Eston Harris is not number 1, he’s very close to it. Harris is right down the road in Opelika, AL and seems to favor Auburn for now. I have said many times that Harris shows unique athleticism for a guy his size and his position. He has excellent hips and feet, but he flashes the most in finishing blocks: I love that about him. I really like AU’s chances to eventually reel him in, but he’s more than likely going to enjoy the recruiting process that was taken from him for a bit (as he should and as many others will do).

AU Interest Level: 𝙷𝙸𝙶𝙷

Josh Conerly may be a somewhat new name for a lot of AU fans, but he’s a top 10 OL prospect in the United States regardless of ranking system. In my system he is .4 away from being a 5 star and will probably reach that status with a strong senior year. Way over on the other corner of the country, but has known Bryan Harsin, Brad Bedell, Jeff Schmedding, and Darren Uscher for a while. Recruiting is all about relationships and that will certainly play a factor here. Auburn may be in this more than it seems.

As a player, Conerly has a major mean streak. Like Harris, he’s an elite athlete for the OL position. Somewhere around 275-280 JC can hold much more weight and mass in college. I love his ability out in space; When he goes against edge rushers he’s able to mirror their speed and counter moves like a college starter already. Major player.

Jacob Hood easily holds the best frame for all of AU’s OL targets. In comparison to Conerly and Harris, Hood is usually highlighted as a mauler in the run game with above average athleticism for a man his size. Having said that, he is a raw player for now. He will need some time to refine his football IQ and his feet when he arrives at his college destination.

As for AU’s chances, you’d have to think they have a shot. Georgia is a major contender—as they usually are with the top OL—but AU will host him in June. He understands the need and Auburn has turned the heat up in this recruitment.

I’m not sure there’s a guy in this class with more options than Riley Quick. Quick is being recruited to play OL, DL, College baseball, and pro baseball. Right now it is unclear what he will decide; What is clear is that he seems to hold Auburn in high regard just as Auburn has done with him. This one will be interesting to watch as Quick should have a decision on his future sometime this summer. Being somewhat close to AU’s campus, he will more than likely slip down for an unofficial visit.

As a player, Quick has a rare combination of being lean, mean, and overly athletic. He uses good pad level and bend in his hips. He holds an excellent frame for being able to add needed weight whether he plays on the offensive or defensive side of the ball: one of the better frames in the 2022 OL class.

Speaking of excellent frames, Wagner is another that fits that category. Aamil Wagner is a name that popped up when he included Auburn in his top 6. As we have said here, Auburn has been stealthy in its recruitment of OL. Could Wagner be a guy they have been working on behind the scenes? We will see. Love his TE-like ability to get out in space and make key blocks to spring big plays. He‘s a guy who has major control of his body and can play well out on an island.

Tae Woody is a versatile player—like Riley Quick—who could play either side of the ball. It seems as though AU likes him on offense, however that may not be set in stone. Love Woody’s quickness. I’ve talked about athleticism, but here Woody is better in short bursts—which is at the utmost importance as an OL. He is usually able to beat defenders to the point of attack: that’s half the battle.

It will be interesting to see what direction Woody chooses. How he is used could be a major pitch. Auburn, however has worked on him and should have a say in the end.

It could probably go unmentioned that Drew Bobo is the son of AU OC Mike Bobo. Drew has moved with his family down to Auburn, AL. I wouldn’t say yet that he is a slam dunk to AU. Drew has been recruited by the likes of South Carolina, Georgia Tech, and Kentucky among others. He is going at the process maturely and with an open mind.

Having said that, Auburn will absolutely play a major factor and could ultimately land his signature. I like Bobo’s athleticism as a tackle but I think his game would translate just as well to guard. Right now he seems to be stronger in the run game than in his pass set. He’s very coachable and is looking to make a major impact at 7A Auburn High School.

Nelson is a guy who has a similar frame to that of current Auburn OL Garner Langlo: very tall and very lean. He plays with good hands and aggressiveness. I see Nelson as having one of the higher ceilings. He is somewhat raw at the moment but he has the ability that you want in a tackle.

Auburn has recently joined the party along with Florida, Miami, and Tennessee. They are currently working on getting him on campus. I believe if he were to try and join, he’d be a take.

AU Interest Level: 𝙼𝙴𝙳𝙸𝚄𝙼

Dayne Shor has gotten plenty of attention from big schools all over the country, except for Auburn. That seems to have changed some as of late. It looks as though Auburn has gotten communication going again for a guy who once was seen as an Auburn lean. There are many other schools who have made impressions and Auburn is no sure thing anymore, but it seems they will be in the mix. We will see what happens.

I currently don’t have a rating out for Shor due to having no junior film. I will have one out soon as I have seen some clips at camps. The quick feet and strong lower body stand out about Shor. I think his feet and hips combined with his strong frame make him an intriguing prospect.

Good analysis.  We may can finally take the best advantage of some the athletic lineman that can play is space and has good feet and can run some cross blocking schemes.

@ellitorDo you have any idea yet what kind of numbers we're looking at on OL for the 2022 class? As in, both the total number and the number of OTs the staff is looking to take.

@Rednillanope! As I said in another thread there’s too many loopholes & rules changes teams can use to try to keep up with the numbers.
