Swiss golfer Jürg Randegger has earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records after playing 252 holes in 12 hours at Ostschweizerischen Golf Club, St. Gallen, Switzerland, on May 21.

"Jürg attempted this record not only for his love of running and golf but also to bring awareness to the Special Olympics Switzerland that help people, through the power of sports, with intellectual disabilities," Guinness World Records said in announcing the record.

Randegger played the entire course, on foot, 14 times in 12 hours to set the record as use of a golf cart was banned for the feat, according to Guinness rules.

During the attempt, Randegger ran 93 kilometers (57.8 miles), took 1,348 strokes, lost eight balls, and had five birdies. He did this with the help of just a 7-iron, according to Guinness.

According to Golf Monthly, Randegger broke the official record by 31 holes, though the unofficial record was held by former MLB player Eric Byrnes, who walked 245 holes in 12 hours or less at Half Moon Bay in San Francisco, California, in April 2019.

"Then there’s the 7-iron. I never miss with the 7-iron. (Kicking club debris aside.)  It’s the only truly safe club in my bag.”
