Auburn in the 2021 MLB Draft

Recommended Posts

Ryan Bliss, a native of LaGrange, Georgia, finished 2021 with a .365 batting average, 15 home runs and 45 RBIs. He finished second in each of those categories among the Tigers. His 77 hits and 50 runs led the team.

Bliss finished first-team All-America for the NCBWA and earned second-team All-America recognition from ABCA, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game. He's only the fourth two-time All-American in Auburn's history.

Bliss was named to the All-SEC second team and the SEC All-Defensive Team.

As a sophomore in 2020, Bliss started every game at shortstop as well. He led the Tigers with 29 hits in the season cut short by the pandemic. Bliss had a .377 average as well.

As a freshman, he was the only player to start all 66 games and ranked second on the team with a .281 average.

Auburn right-handed pitcher Richard Fitts has his chance to play professional baseball. The New York Yankees selected Fitts in the sixth round with the 185th overall pick of the MLB Draft on Monday.

Fitts’ selection comes after completing his junior season at Auburn. Fitts’ third season with the Tigers started with high hopes, as he was a second team preseason All-America selection by D1 Baseball and a third team by Baseball America. His spring, however, hit a significant snag on March 5 when he suffered a toe injury.

Fitts ultimately appeared in 41.1 innings and posted a 1-3 record with one save, 38 hits, 31 runs, 15 walks, 41 strikeouts and a 5.88 ERA. He earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors on May 24 after pitching a career-high eight shutout innings in the series-clinching win at Missouri, which also punched Auburn’s ticket to the SEC Tournament.

Through three seasons at Auburn, Fitts has made 40 appearances with 117 innings pitched, a 7-6 record, one save, 125 hits allowed, 37 walks, 104 strikeouts and a 5.23 ERA.

Fitts still has the option to return to Auburn for his senior year. His approximate pick value, according to MLB.com, is $266,000.

The Boston Red Sox selected Auburn infielder Tyler Miller in the ninth round with the 256th overall pick of the 2021 MLB draft, which has a slot value of $160,300.

A Spanish Fort native, Miller started in 51 games this past season for the Tigers with 48 of those spent at first base.

The Pittsburgh Pirates previously drafted him while in high school in the 23rd round of the 2018 MLB draft. He opted to play college baseball instead.

He led Auburn with 16 home runs and 61 RBI during his junior season in 2021.
Miller ranked fifth on the team with a .313 average. His 65 hits and 38 runs were good enough for second among Tigers.

Miller's 61 RBI finished as the most in the entire SEC conference while he ranked fourth in home runs. Both ranked second most in the program since 2011. Edouard Julien had 17 home runs and 69 RBI during the 2018 season.

Steven Williams was drafted in the 18th round by the Nationals. Signee Riggs Threadgill was drafted in the 19th round. It will be interesting to see what Threadgill decides to do.
