Watch: WR target Antonio Williams in action

ByKEITH NIEBUHR 19 hours ago

Auburn commit Damari Alston has a big opening game

5lx1nnib7-ohd.jpg

Antonio Williams can do a little bit of everything on the field and one often finds him excelling in multiple areas at Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork. He's a talented receiver, who also doubles as a dangerous return man, both on kickoffs and punts.

Add it up and you get one of the most coveted prospects in the South.

Williams, a 4-star recruit, is the No. 5 player in the state of South Carolina, No. 23 receiver nationally and No. 160 overall recruit in the country for the class of 2022 in the industry generated 247Sports Composite.

In 2020, he recorded 51 catches for 837 yards and eight touchdowns.

Williams has official visits scheduled to South Carolina (Sept. 24) and Ole Miss (Oct. 22). Per Anna Hickey of our 247Sports Clemson site, "Williams intends to make a commitment the week prior to the start of his playoffs in late October, so presumably not long after his Ole Miss trip."

Auburn also is expected to get an official visit, though we don't yet have a date for that.

Williams made an unofficial to see the Tigers in June. Although he did not grant an interview following that visit, those on the Auburn side thought it went fairly well.

Tigers offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, who has a longstanding relationship with Dutch Fork coach Tom Knotts, is leading this recruitment. You can bet receivers coach Cornelius Williams, who already has landed two solid receivers in the 2022 recruiting class, also has a hand in things.

What makes Williams' such a big Tigers target? You can see for yourself.

Here are Williams' highlights from his two most recent games ...

Pair of Auburn High linemen impressed with Auburn win

Jeffrey Lee

about 12 hours

Two of Auburn’s top offensive line targets were in Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday for the Tigers’ big season-opening win over Akron.

Here’s what Eston Harris and Drew Bobo had to say about the game, their recruitments and timelines for a decision.

OL Eston Harris:

On Aubun’s 60-10-win over Akron:

“Man, it was great. They have a very explosive offense. Coach Bobo, they all impressed me today. They looked good. They made some big changes to their offense. They weren’t that team last year. It looked good. It opened my eyes about Auburn.”

On his recruitment:

“Everything is the same right now. My recruitment has basically been on pause since the season started. My main focus has been trying to lead my team to state, be 1-0 each week.”

Official visit to Auburn?

“I will, of course. I live right over there so I’ll walk. I don’t know when it will be, whenever is best. I just need to communicate with Coach for whenever is best.”

Auburn rising for you?

“Definitely. They definitely rose. I’ve been around more, talking to the coaches more and seeing everything. They definitely rose up.”

On OL coach Will Friend:

“I love Coach Friend. He’s a great coach. Ever since I went to the camp with him, I just felt better about him.”

Decision date?

“Oct. 28 is the day I have planned, but I don’t know right now.”

Auburn High OL Drew Bobo is getting close to a decision. (Photo: Jeffrey Lee)

OL Drew Bobo.

On Auburn’s big win:

“It was really good. I thought the offense looked really good. They put up a lot of points on the board.”

On his position in college:

“I think I could play center or guard, but also have a chance to play all five and give depth wherever they need me.”

On Auburn’s offensive line:

“They looked really good tonight. They moved people off the ball and had a forceful run game.”

On a timeline for a decision:

“My dad and I had a good talk about it two weeks ago, and we’re going to sit down and talk about it pretty soon. I think it’s coming to a close soon. I think a decision could come in the next month. I feel like I’m getting close to make a decision.”

Schools in it:

“I’m looking at Georgia, Auburn and Kentucky. Auburn is recruiting me the hardest.”

Official visit to Auburn?

“I haven’t set one up, but I know I’m going to take one.”

I am feeling better about Harris, I think maybe we are slowly becoming a 1st choice but bama still in the way. Bobo I think comes to Auburn but if he doesn't I would totally understand as his dad being a coach could be either a plus or a minus and he has spent a lot of time in Athens also. I wonder if Kentucky is still on the table because it is not Auburn or Ga., since his Dad had no direct ties to Ky. that I know of.

Concur on both counts...

Wouldn't it be nice for Auburn to finally 'flip' someone for the OL this fall?
