5-star LB Drayk Bowen sets commitment date

2022 OL Drew Bobo vs. Dothan

One of the top 2023 recruits in the country has set his commitment date and Auburn is a finalist.

That player is 5-star linebacker Drayk Bowen of Merrillville (Ind.) Andrean. He visited the Tigers for the Georgia game on Oct. 9.

Bowen announced via Twitter on Friday he will reveal his commitment plans Nov. 7. Auburn, Clemson and Notre Dame are his finalists. The Fighting Irish hold a commanding lead in the 247Sports Crystal Ball, but Auburn is thought to be a serious contender. In fact, some think it'll come down to those two programs.

Bowen is the No. 2 linebacker and No. 28 overall recruit nationally in the industry generated 247Sports Composite.

He also is a top-level baseball recruit; he met with Auburn's baseball staff during his recent visit to the school.

"Really loved my time there -- and getting to talk with baseball (coaches and players) was one of the highlights of the trip," Bowen told Auburn Undercover on Friday.

Worth noting, Bowen also visited Auburn in June.

This weekend, he will be at Notre Dame.

Here is 247Sports' evaluation for Bowen: Physically strong player who is a weight room warrior. Multi-sport athlete who excels on the baseball diamond also. Has great play speed. Pursues and closes to the football with effort and has explosivenes off the ball and as he closes to his target. Can play a couple of different roles as he has been used as a stand-up edge rusher or he can shift further outside and play out in space over a slot. Might not be as long as schools want in an edge-rusher so he projects more as a traditional outside backer who can blitz off the edge when needed. We have not seen him asked to drop back and cover as much so that is a part of his game that needs to be furthered evaluated although he looks like a good enough athlete to do that.

As long a AD Greene didn't sit down to talk to him, I feel our chances are 50/50. But if he did, he might have told him about how well he liked playing baseball for ND, and inadvertently given ND too much cred. :)

The legwork going into the 23 class is something we've never seen at Auburn. Love it.
