Trovon Reed has been back at Auburn in an official capacity for just six weeks, yet he’s already making his presence felt.

Yes, he’s the face and voice of Auburn’s intro video on game days. And yes, his role with the team is coordinator of player relations. His biggest impact, however, his biggest role, has been on the recruiting trail.

 

Reed, who played at Auburn from 2010-2014, is an instrumental part of Auburn’s recruitment of players in Louisiana.

And he should be.

Reed knows all too well what the high school players in Louisiana are thinking, feeling and looking for in a college. Reed was the No. 1 player from the state in 2010 and shunned LSU for Auburn.
 

Reed building bonds with recruits

Austin Ausberry, a four-star cornerback from Baton Rouge, took an official visit to Auburn Oct. 8-10, the weekend of the Georgia game.

Ausberry left the visit with high praise for Auburn. He loved his visit, so much so that Auburn could be the frontrunner. And a big reason for that is Reed, who spent a lot of time with Ausberry and his family during their stay.

“Coach Reed is the realest dude I’ve ever met,” Ausberry told AuburnLive. “That’s my guy, for sure. He kept it real about everything. I just appreciate his time and everything.”

 

Reed also went in-depth about why he chose Auburn.

“He said he could’ve went to LSU, but Auburn actually felt like home to him,” Ausberry said. “I got that vibe (during my visit), too.”

Reed also is helping recruit 2023 cornerback Ryan Robinson from Edna Karr in New Orleans. Auburn recently offered Robinson.

“I talk to Coach Reed a lot,” Robinson said. “He’s a great guy. He’s Louisiana made and keeps it real with me at all times. I can put my trust in him because we come from the same place. He’s from where I’m from and Louisiana boys are just different.”

Reed also is helping recruit junior college defensive back Marquise Gilbert.

Gilbert, who is currently at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, is from Palm Coast, Fla. Reed, however, is building a bond with him as well.

“Coach Reed is a great guy, a great dude,” Gilbert said. “He reaches out to me or I reach out to him at least twice a week. We definitely keep in contact. He’s just a very good dude.”

Reed’s ties to Louisiana could help Auburn even more in the near future. With the news on Sunday that LSU coach Ed Orgeron would not return in 2022, flipping LSU commitments became even more of a possibility for Auburn.

Auburn has continued to recruit four-star running back Trevonte Citizen, four-star defensive back Laterrence Welch, linebacker DeMario Tolan and four-star defensive back Jadarian Rhym, all LSU commitments.

 

It won’t hurt Auburn’s chances having Reed on staff.

“He’s just a great dude,” Ausberry said. “He keeps it real about everything.”

I think CBH has found a great mix of new blood and Auburn men on this staff. We have recruiters from out west and recruiters with SEC ties as well.

For a dude that didn’t have his playing career go like I suspect he envisioned he has repped AU incredibly well

Mario Fannin, Kam Martin and he all stand out to me for that. Fannin arguably ended up having a decent career but none of them had the kind of career they likely envisioned when they got here. (I know there are countless others but those are the ones I feel like I have a good feel for.)

I remember an older guy from Louisiana who seemed to know a lot about HS players down there calling into a national radio show back in the '10 timeframe specifically bemoaning  TR as the one that got away.    Thought he was the most dynamic player he'd ever seen in LA.    Oh well, glad he's a star for us now!

They're still salty about it in Thibodaux. We might've been a little outside the lines, er, box recruiting him and GRob.

It’s not just FB btw, we recently signed the no.1 swimmer in LA (ranked no.15 in the nation, 2021 class) Jacques Rathle (Thibodeaux, LA) and just recently landed another commitment for the 2022 class (#1 ranked swimmer in LA) Avery Henke (Lafayette, LA).

Hopefully, we can flip some of the recruits which would make it even more likely to land some more kids in the coming years.

So you mean we recruited up to SEC standards?   I endorse this.  Especially now that a neutered NCAA is not able to enforce anything.

Definitely the standard in Louisiana. Strong @ss offers are actually the norm there from what we hear.
