Does Harsin land his first 5 star recruit in 2023? @Zeek who might be some candidates in the 23 class who are current 5 stars, or will likely become 5 stars, that our staff is after?

5* CB Tony Mitchell is a Bama lean from Thompson (a school we don't do well with in AU-AL battles) but he has visited a lot

5* DL Peter Woods also viewed as a Bama lean from Thompson but has visited a lot and insists Auburn is in his top group

5* CB Jahlil Hurley (Florence, AL) is one to watch

5* CB AJ Harris (Central HS in Phenix City, AL) is one to watch

There is no telling who will rise to a 5* and who will fall to a 4* though. Woods is our best bet from the current group of 5* prospects in the 2023 class.

Need to own the Auburn area. Maybe this solid DB class can help sway him.

I think we get a 5* CB.  Our D should be very good this year and we’ll turn some heads of some recruits.   I think there will also likely be a 5* that seems like it’s out of the blue.   23 is going to be a very good cycle for us!

Remember Fickell at Cinci (that playoff team) has never landed a five star. Ever. In 5 years as a head coach he's landed a whopping 7 four star players. Go for the five stars of course but it's far from a perfect rating system.

Just saying.

Point made, but we just saw what happens in the semi final game when you don't land enough top tier talent. You can't be that far behind for that long

They play in the AAC. He’s a wonderful coach but don’t think he could do that in other conferences.

Look at the top 2. You need 5 stars.

You do need 5 stars, but even with 19 of them Bama boatraced UGA in the SECCG just as bad as they did Cincy in the playoff. If Kirby doesn’t win a natty soon with that roster, the Dawg pitchforks will be activated.

It’s a myriad of factors yes, but you need the talent to really make moves. I don’t think you need to have a roster full of them because CFB is weird and strange things happen but if Auburn wants to compete they need serious talent up front.

Georgia’s issue has been a dynamic quarterback. Alabama has a 5* guy and Georgia has the walk on. That could be the difference next Monday if their defense doesn’t show up.

Would be great to see Georgia fans grab the pitchforks

uga and bama have proven that talent wins games but talent plus coaching wins titles. (Unless you have a Cam Newton and a Nick Fairley on the same team in a year where bama loses 3 and kirby isn't at uga.)

I'm still not completely sold on Kirby as a coach for some reason.... probably denial. His ability to recruit elite talent can't be questioned though

If saban weren't operating at peak capacity at bama right now, kirby would be on his way to his 3rd national title.

That said, saban is exactly how we know the difference between a great coach and recruiter as opposed to just a great recruiter.

So what you said. uga is an MLB or European soccer team owned by Middle Eastern oil interests. No salary cap and unlimited spending power. Yet, they still don't win a title every year.

They are there a lot (Bama) but they don’t win one every year either.

He doesn't play in the SEC.

$puat is a culmination of a decade of paying players, elite talent imbalance and a platoon of "analyst". More times than not when they face marginally equivalent  talent and good coaching, they lose (Kirby choking notwithstanding). Also, Kirby plays in the east which is at historical lows (to date). Maybe TN and UF will get unstuck from the mud.

The point is that uga is the only team that is equivalent in terms of talent and saban owns them.

bama now plays 15 games a year and almost never loses more than 2 of them. That is absurd. It would take a literal NFL team to lose fewer games than they do.

And if they have more analysts than anyone else, then it's because they have a head coach who is smarter than everyone else. It's certainly not because other schools can't match their budget.

I get that we're not supposed to say anything nice about them but saban is the greatest coach of all time coaching some of the most talented teams of all time. It's okay to acknowledge that. It doesn't mean you love Auburn any less.

About to get labeled a closet Bammer here…

Sadly, the Thompson program is untouchable for Auburn.  Used to be a sleepy school that was pretty bad at most sports.   All those shiny new things were bankrolled by well connected bammers with one condition:  all the superstar players we send to you that we used to send to Hoover have to go to bammer.  It's a farm system basically.
