Baseball vs Middle Tennessee

This was a 4-10 MTSU team coming into the weekend. They were swept by South Alabama. SEC play this year is going to be brutal.

This weekend has shown some deficiencies in consistent hitting. Getting 10 runs in 2 innings in game 1 and then 1 hit the rest of the 6 innings is ridiculous.

Carlson comes in off the bench and fights through a lot of 2 strike pitches. 12 pitch at bat but the pitcher wins it and Carlson strikes out for out 2.

It's all up to Pierce who's pinch hitting for Burk.

Pierce with a 3 pitch easy ground out. Disappointing series all around. Pitching was rough, hitting was inconsistent, and the hope from last week has diminished.

Auburn loses 4-3 and loses the series. :(

Pitiful. Bad MTSU team and that happens. I would normally be pissed at the bullpen but our offense goes silent for stretches at a time

Nah.....it's baseball. This stuff happens.  Auburn will be ok.

I'd agree if this was a midweek. Could care less. But 2/3 to a squad like that, yikes. Especially with how loaded the conference is. That said, there's still promise. In the SEC just get to .500 in conference and you're in a regional

A lot of teams that are there at the end struggle with lower teams early season. Makes sense considering a lot of turnover on baseball squads from year to year.  Testing lineups etc. Now if we come back and do it again through the next week or so then it may be something deeper.  Baseball is a patient sport lol

Yep. its a marathon in baseball, not a sprint.

we need to take 2-3 from OM, or at least show we are competitive, not get swept, and feel confident at least that we play play w/ our ranked teams, and get better.

You should take a look at other SEC teams....and their losses. Almost nobody is playing a lot of top caliber teams at this time of year. Ole Miss lost to Oral Roberts. MSU has lost 7 games, Vandy has played one good team - OSU - and lost the series. TN and KY are doing pretty well but it almost always cycles up and down in baseball. Middle TN is not completely without talent either, btw. And Auburn's best hitter is at about 50% right now. That makes a big difference. It's way too early to panic.

Too early to panic but early enough to see challenges with the Bullpen and a couple batters.

MTSU was a .240 team but you wouldn't know that from the series. We have to figure out our starting situation. Bright got shelled in conference play after dominating in non-con last year. Gonzalez has a blister and Armstrong has been terrible the last couple starts. My guess is that Skipper gets the start on Thursday and we'll see about Gonzalez on Friday. If not, Armstrong will probably get one more shot at starting against Mississippi.
