Auburn hosts ‘biggest recruiting weekend’ in Harsin era

On Saturday, Auburn will hold arguably the biggest recruiting day of the Bryan Harsin era.

“Several of Auburn’s top targets in the 2023 class are expected to visit, the majority of which are four-star recruits,” said Jeffrey Lee of On3’s Auburn Live.

On offense, four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina will be there. So will four-star running back Jeremiah Cobband four-star tight end Jelani Thurman.

Vizzina is the biggest visitor on the offensive side of the ball this weekend for Auburn.

He ranks as the No. 40 player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 5 quarterback in the On3 Consensus. On3 ranks him similarly to others in the industry as the No. 4 quarterback overall.

Vizzina is believed to be leaning toward Clemson heading into the visit. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Clemson has a 54% chance of landing Vizzina. That’s followed by Notre Dameat 15.5%, Georgia at 9.1% and Ole Miss at 5.3%.

However, it’s believed Auburn could become a major player with an impressive visit this weekend.

More talented targets visiting Auburn

And then there are the offensive linemen visitors heading to Auburn this weekend, a group expected to feature three four-star tackles in Bo Hughley, Stanton Ramiland Clay Wedin, as well as three-star tackles Connor Lew and Connor Strohand interior line commitment Bradyn Joiner. Three-star tight end Reid Mikeska from Texas also plans to visit.

The list on defense is just as impressive.

Up front, four-star tackles T.J. Searcy, Darron Reed and Kayden McDonald are expected to be in Auburn. Four-star defensive back Terrance Love is, too, as is his three-star tackle teammate, Joshua Horton.

“In all, around 25 recruits are expected to be in Auburn on Saturday,” Lee said. “They’ll meet with the coaches, get a better feel for the program and the new vision under Harsin, and watch practice.

“It’s a big day, for sure.”

I'm thinking this class will determine Harsin's fate at Auburn in the long run.

With BOTs botched "job review" last Winter, it's not a one-way street. Harsin is a man of character but he has a family & career so not hard to imagine him now leveraging a nice recruiting class and 8-9 win season with a bolt to oh, say, Oklahoma State. Works both ways.

Probably.  And, the fate of our football program for the next few years.  We MUST get some dominate linemen.

The top-2 players in Alabama, both On3 five-star recruits and both ranked in the top 10 nationally, will visit Auburn on Saturday.

Qua Russaw and James Smith, teammates at Carver-Montgomery, had planned to visit Georgia, but instead will be in Auburn, according to a source close to their recruitments.

The list went from good to awesome in the last 24 hours. Russaw and Smith is one thing, but getting the Detroit 5 star QB and those Florida kids is a huge awesome surprise

Looks like good weather today and tomorrow. That always helps! Basketball and baseball have done their part to lift attitudes. Softball expected to do the same starting today.

Lets hope AU can leave some lasting favorable impressions!

Hopefully this means something around the culture of recrutiing is changing. New attitude by staff? NIL? Whatever the case a stellar class heavy on OLINE will go along way towards ensuring a year 3 Harsin
