Softball vs Kentucky series

Recommended Posts

Start of the first big road game series this weekend. Won't be able to watch games anymore due to some financial constraints. Can still give updates but it will only be from listening/following along on livestats.

1-2-3 inning for Auburn bats to start the first. Packer struck out, Roach pops up, and Peralta fouls out.

Lowe had a rough 1st inning, unfortunately. Walked the first batter on 4 straight, runner called out for leaving early, then gave up a single and then the runner advanced to second on a throwing error by Garcia. She advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch and then Lowe walks the next batter on 5 pitches. Ground out to the next better before giving up a 2 run double. Ground out to end the inning.

2-0 Kentucky.

Blaine pops up before Garcia hits a solo homer!

2-1 Kentucky

Ellis walks on a 3-2 count and then Godwin strikes out for out 2.

Denver then strikes out on 3 straight. 3 strikeouts so far for the Kentucky pitcher.

2-1 Kentucky B2nd

Lowe gives up a 3-2 single up the middle.

Sac bunt and runner moves to second. 1 pitch and a fly out to McCondichie. Intentional walk to their lead off hitter and runners on 1st and 2nd.

A hard hit single and the runner scores before the throw can come in to throw out the runner at 3rd base. Bryant went down on the play, tied up in a rundown. Looks to be okay, though.

We will be going to the 3rd inning, though. McCondichie, Packer, Roach coming up.

3-1 Kentucky

McCondichie singles through the left side on the 1st pitch! Glad her hitting is coming alive after a small slump to start SEC play.

Error by the SS and we have McCondichie and Packer on base now!

Roach pops up trying to bunt. :(

Wild pitch and both runners move up! Great opportunity for the heart of the lineup!

Shallow fly from Blaine and not deep enough to move Peralta over. 2 down for Garcia.

She fouls out on the first pitch. Great hitting from Peralta but still would have loved to bring her home.

3-3 Tied B3rd

Cox is coming in for Bryant. Bryant was able to leave the field on her own but looks like she might be out the rest of the game.

Flyout to start the inning for Kentucky. But Lowe gives up another single to LF. 3-1 walk and now runners on 1st and 2nd.

At this point, if Lowe is injured I'd rather we rest her than keep trotting out there to struggle.

New pitcher as Dismukes comes in for Lowe. Another bad outing for Lowe.

Dismukes with a great job to get the 2nd out with a strikeout. But a hard hit ball of Garcia's gloves clears the bases with a double. :(

Gets the next batter to strike out as well.

Ellis, Godwin, Cox up for Auburn

5-3 Kentucky. Lowe's day ends with 2.1 innings 5 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks, no strikeouts. Not gonna get it done in SEC. Rest her and get that injury taken care of.

Ellis pops up.

Godwin with a double at the foot of the wall!

New pitcher for Kentucky as Cooper comes in to run for Godwin.

New pitcher comes in and gets Cox to strikeout.

McCondichie with attempt at the bunt single. She gets called out at first but there's a review coming in. Was close and will update the post when it gets called.

Edit: Call stands and we need a good no run inning from Dismukes here.

5-3 Kentucky B4th

Foul out, 2 singles, and a passed ball. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Man, our pitching just can't get out of innings.

Line out and a runner comes to score. Another single and runners on the corner. That's 9 hits for Kentucky already. Ground out ends the inning finally.

Packer, Roach, Peralta coming up. Need some big time hits and runs this inning.

6-3 Kentucky T5th

Groundout to SS, nice play by the fielder as she has to go down to a knee and throw from there to get Packer out.

Slow groundout to the pitcher for Roach. Roach has been struggling ever since Peralta moved to 3rd and she's been starting at SS.

Another double for Peralta!!! Wish she had runners on base.

Blaine with a groundout to the pitcher.

6-3 Kentucky B5th. Can we please get 1 scoreless inning from our pitchers?

2 ground outs to start the inning. Cox with a nice play deep in the hole to get to that ball and throw to first.

Ground out to Peralta to give Auburn it's first scoreless inning.

Garcia, Ellis, Godwin coming up

6-3 Kentucky T6th

Garcia with an infield single off the pitchers glove.

Ellis pops up for out 1. Godwin with a SINGLE! Garcia advances to 3rd! And Godwin advances to 2nd on the throw to 3rd.

McNemar pinch hitting for Cox and strikes out looking on a 3-2 count. :(

SMH strikeout swinging for McCondichie. 3rd straight inning we've stranded runners in scoring position with less than 2 outs. Can't do that.

Bunt single, throwing error by Ellis and the runner is now on 3rd. Wild pitch, runner scores. Fielding issues strike again. Nice play by Peralta on the liner. Then another hit for Kentucky. That was her 4th hit of the game.

Fielder's choice as Cox tries to tag the runner going to 2nd but misses the tag. Runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs.

7-3 Kentucky.

Walk to load the bases. Doesn't look like this is our night. Bad night pitching combined with an off night at the plate hitting with RISP.

Yep, not our night. Next pitch and it's a walk-off grandslam. 11-3 loss for Auburn. Horrible night all around, tbh.

We have got to stop making this many fielding mistakes.

Really sucks when it's Dismukes on the mound. She's not really a strikeout pitcher so she needs help from her defense and we don't give it to her. Really worried about our pitching, though. This is now several weeks where Lowe just hasn't been good.

Nothing seemed to click tonight for the team tonight. We couldn’t get a timely hit, our pitching was off, and our fielding wasn’t great. Hopefully it was nerves or the cold weather. We will see what happens tomorrow!

I am too. I was looking forward to seeing Penta and Lowe dominate this season.

We can't depend on Penta all the time. I just hope that Shelby doesn't start to get affected mentally as well after not so great outings.

The SEC is a wild race this year. Alabama currently losing to South Carolina and Tennessee currently beating Florida. It seems any team can truly beat any team on any day. Kentucky is a solid team. Hopefully we can bounce back tomorrow.

What I've been worried about especially after seeing her breakdown in the dugout last weekend after her poor performance. If she has a nagging injury that's affecting anything, I would rather just go with Dismukes and Penta and let Lowe heal up. Even if it's just giving her a week off. Throwing her out there just to get hit all over the place has to be affecting her confidence.

Hopefully CMD will decide to do that. We could really use her if we have any plans to succeed post season.
