Softball vs Kentucky series

Recommended Posts

Thanks to Grogan for the PBP.  I was on the road.  Kentucky is probably better overall than we are right now.  With Lowe at her best, that might not be true.  I'm sure she is more disappointed than anyone that she has been unable to produce the type results she got last year.  Hopefully, CMD is working with Lowe and the team doctor to execute the best plan possible for her and the team.  If we can take one game from UK, that is probably a win for us now.  Note Oklahoma beat them 9-1 like swatting a fly.  Also see alabama came back to beat SC 7-5.

South Carolina is showing to be a team better than their record.  I bet they win more than they lose come end of season.  They seem to be right there with close losses to good teams early this season.

Penta on the mound for game 2. Hope to be able to get a complete game from her today.

Some small changes in the lineup as Cox is in at 2b in place of the injured Bryant. Roach gets moved down to the 8th spot and Peralta moves up to the 2nd spot in the lineup.

Packer starts the game with a single to 2B!

Peralta strikes out swinging.

Blaine singles! Packer moves to 3rd. And Cooper is running for Blaine. Great opportunity to get some hits with RISP.

BAAAAAAAAAAANG!!!! GARCIA DOES IT AGAIN! 3-RUN BOMB!!

3-0 AUBURN

Ellis is hit by the pitch!

Dang! Godwin strikes out swinging for out 2. Would love to get even more runs early.

Nice play by Kentucky left fielder to make a running catch.

3-0 Auburn B1st

Penta gets ahead of every batter with 2 strike counts. 2 ground outs to Peralta at 3b before an infield single to Roach at SS.

A check swing hit to Peralta and she gets all 3 outs. Improving game after game at that third base position.

Roach, McCondichie, and Packer up for Auburn

3-0 Auburn T2nd

Looks like Kentucky is already going to the bullpen as a new pitcher comes in.

Roach fouls out to 3rd.

NIce bunt from McCondichie and the fielder can't find the mark on the throw and McCondichie goes to 2nd!

A wild pitch and she moves to 3rd! Great opportunity with 1 out to get some more runners with the top of the lineup coming up.

3-2 count and Packer walks! Runners on the corner with  1 out.

Deep fly for Peralta but the fielder makes a running catch going into the wall with the catch. Both runners tag, McCondichie scores!

Blaine chases a ball down low and flies out.

4-0 Auburn B2nd

Hard hit ball by Garcia but it's a line out to LF.

Ellis pops up to SS.

Godwin flies out. Very quick 7 pitch inning for Kentucky.

Penta falls behind for the first time before giving up the lead off single.

Godwin with a passed ball and the runner moves up.

Penta falls behind 2-0 before fighting back and striking the batter out!

More fielding issues, this time with Cox. She knocked it down but not able to field it cleanly. Runner reaches first on the error, other runner moves to 3rd.

Nice play by Peralta makes the running grab in foul territory for out 2!

Pitch outside and the runner steals 2nd. Godwin fake threw to first and then tried to get the runner going back to 3rd but she was safe.

Penta with a great job working out of the error! Strikes out the batter and now sits at 5th for the most strikeouts by a Sophomore Auburn pitcher!!

Cox, Roach, McCondichie up to bat.

4-0 Auburn T4th

Cox with a 5 pitch leadoff walk! Geraghty comes in to run.

Anyone worried about Bryant, she has a crutch but has been up cheering for the team, helping out the batters with their equipment. Just doing everything you want in a team mate. They won't know more about what's wrong with her until the team gets back to Auburn.

Roach with a single up the middle!! Runners on 1st and 2nd now.

Another new pitcher for Kentucky.

Not sure about the decision but Packer bunts back to the pitcher to move the runners up. 1 out.

Peralta with a slow roller to 1st, she grounds out but Roach does score! Another RBI for Peralta! McCondichie moves up to 3rd.

Blaine battles back from an 0-2 count to get it to 3-2 before walking. Runners on the corner for the hot hitting Garcia!!

Another nice play from the Kentucky outfielder as Garcia flies out.

6-0 Auburn B4th

Hard hit double off the wall. Lowe is starting to get warm. Dismukes is also warming up.

Fly out to Packer and then the runner from 2nd leaves early trying to tag up. Wow, lucky break for Auburn. Strikeout to end the inning.

Ellis, Godwin, Cox up for Auburn.

6-2 Auburn T5th

Going to be a long rest of the season with both Lowe and Yarbrough hurt leaving just Penta and Dismukes carrying most of the load.

Infield single to SS.

Bunt to 3b. Fielder slow covering 1st and Peralta can't throw it. Runners on 1st and 2nd. :(

Yay more fielding issues. Cox just drops the throw from Peralta. Bases loaded 0 outs.

Another ball hit to the left side. Roach goes to 2nd for 1. Runner scores and runners on the corner with 1 out.

Fly out to CF. Shallow and a good throw to Cox and keeps the runner at third.

Next pitch and it's a foul out! Great job by Penta working around more fielding issues.

McCondichie, Packer, Peralta coming up.

6-3 Auburn T6th

McCondichie continues the hot hitting with a single to RF! Once again, I love her in that 9 hole!

Packer gets hit by the pitch! Opportunity to get some insurance runs!

Peralta flies out to shallow center.

Gotta get at least 1 run home. Blaine fouls out.

Absolutely horrible clutch hitting from the 2, 3, and 4 hitters as Garcia grounds out. :(

6-3 Auburn B6th

1 pitch popup to 2B.

3-2 walk by Penta, her first of the game. 1 hopper to Peralta and she gets the lead runner. No chance for Cox to turn the double play.

Wild pitch and runner moves to 2nd. And now the trainers are out looking at Godwin's throwing hand. Announcers said she might have taken a ball off the knuckles.

Edit: Seems to be okay as she stayed in for the last out.

Roach with a running catch in foul territory!!

Ellis, Godwin, Cox coming up.

6-3 Auburn T7th. Lets go get some insurance runs, please.

Ellis flies out.

Godwin grounds out.

Cox singles but Roach with a 1 pitch ground out. Wow 7 pitches and 3 outs including the single. 2nd day in a row Auburn struggled with Kentucky's relief pitchers.

6-3 Auburn B7th. 3 outs away from tying up the series.

Penta loses the batter on a 3-2 count and gives up a lead off walk. Now gotta face the heart of Kentucky's lineup with a 3 run lead.

Error on Peralta and we have runners on 1st and 2nd 0 outs.
