Softball vs #7 Florida

Big big weekend at home. Would love to take 2/3 from Florida after losing the series on the heart breaker against Kentucky.

I'm assuming we'll have Lowe on the mound tonight since she was the only one who didn't pitch in the midweek game.

I was wrong. It's Penta on the mound for game 1. Will edit this post as soon as Auburn Softball twitter tweets the full lineup.

Couple of noticeable changes: Roach is not starting, Peralta goes back to SS, Cox goes back to 3B, and McCondichie stays at 2B for the injured Denver Bryant. Blaine stays in RF instead of DP. Hope that Peralta's shakiness at SS doesn't come back.

Offense is gonna be tested today with the Florida pitcher. She leads the SEC in almost every pitching category.

Penta gets the lead off batter to strike out!

5 pitch walk. Ump calling it tight on that outside corner.

A first pitch ball and Dean is coming out to talk to Penta. He's also talking to the ump as he walks to the mound. This strike zone is extremely tight already!

Fly out to CF for out 2 on a 3-2 count.

Despite the strike zone, Penta gets a strikeout looking. It was outside but framed nicely by Godwin.

Packer strikes out swinging on a ball in the dirt, catcher is able to throw to 1st to get her out in time.

Peralta lines out to the pitcher. Florida pitcher just threw her glove up and it went right in.

Blaine grounds out to 1B.

Penta gives up a lead off single right back up the middle.

Comes back and gets a fly out to LF for out 1. A GREAT PLAY BY GARCIA. I think she lost it for a second and had to adjust for a jumping and falling catch!

FC to 2B and gets the lead runner out. ANOTHER GREAT PLAY BY MCCONDICHIE. Dove for it, kept it in front her of her and just pushes the ball to Peralta at 2nd who stretches and keeps her foot on the bag. Hope there's a video of that soon.

Penta gets up 0-2 before throwing 3 straight balls. Umpire just doesn't know what's a strike or a ball on that outside corner to lefties. Single to Shortstop and we have runners on 1st and 2nd. Tough play and it went off her glove, would have been difficult to get her even with a clean play.

Line out to LF for out 3! SERIOUSLY THE DEFENSE! DIVING CATCH!!

Garcia strikes out swinging.

Ellis pops up to 2b. This pitcher is getting ahead 2 strikes on all of these batters.

Lisenby doesn't waste any time and gets a single on the first pitch!

Godwin strikes out. Florida pitcher making us look silly right now.

Did Schmidt replace Blaine in RF?

Schmidt is going to RF for Blaine. Wonder if the sun was causing Blaine too many issues in a position she doesn't play much.

Umpire seriously doesn't know the strike zone on the outside corner to lefties. Penta falls behind 3-0 before coming back to get a swinging strikeout!

Dean barking at the ump again. Line out to Garcia in LF. Nice job of her adjusting to the spin of the ball there.

Another walk on a 3-1 count. Penta doesn't issue many walks so her getting squeezed like this is crazy. She's gonna have to adjust to the strike zone.

Strikeout swinging! Batter was out of the box on her swing. Penta's 4th of the night!

Damn Peralta strikes out. Very rare for her not to get a hit with runners on.

Blaine comes in to hit for Schmidt. Blaine battling hard on an 0-2 count. Fouling off a lot of pitches. Blaine swings and a pitch goes off her helmet. Was called a foul but it looks like a swing and a miss. Florida challenging it right now.

Edit: Surprising that it wasn't overturned but it doesn't matter as Blaine strikes out on the next pitch. Sucks to have two strikeouts with the bases loaded. Need a hit to break this tie.

Lisenby batting for Schmidt, I'm assuming Blaine will go back to RF and Lisenby will go to dp on defense. She walks on a 3-2 count. Another good at bat from her. Glad to finally get her in the lineup consistently even if it's because of an injury to Bryant.

Mound visit after the first pitch to Godwin was in the dirt. Wild pitch and Lisenby goes to 2nd! Great opportunity to get a hit and a run!

Damn! Ran ourselves out of the inning as McCondichie gets caught trying to steal 2nd.

Blaine just misses a homer but it goes foul! These young bombers are so damn good and they're all freshman! 💪🤯 Auburn should be good for a while to come with these young ladies!

Lead off single breaks the 7 straight retired by Penta.

Little trouble now as Penta hits the batter. Runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Nasty pitch that hit her hard. Glad she's okay.

Penta gets up 1-2 but then a wild pitch and both runners in scoring position. Starting to worry we're gonna blow another game.

Fly out to RF and a runner scores. Got the first out, though, and can still get out of this with no more damage.
