Auburn Tigers Snapshot Profile: No. 12 Holden Geriner

Going into the 2022 football season, Auburn Wire will be looking at each scholarship player listed on the Tigers’ roster.

Over the preseason, each profile will cover where the player is from, how recruiting websites rated them coming out of high school, and what role they will play for Bryan Harsin this season.

Holden Geriner is the newest quarterback to join the roster. The quarterback is fairly new to each other with the freshman playing alongside two other newcomers and T.J. Finley. Zach Calzada and Robby Ashford both transferred into the program over the offseason leading up to spring football.

Depth Chart Overview

Coming into the spring, the early enrollee is likely looking at the bottom of the rung as far as quarterbacks are concerned. The top two spots are likely going to be Zach Calzada and T.J. Finley. Whichever doesn’t win the job will in all likelihood be QB2 on the roster with incoming transfer Robby Ashford as No. 3 and then Geriner starting out at QB4.

However, given that no one has run away with the job during the spring and likely won’t until Calzada can be a full go in fall, this gives Geriner ample opportunities to work his way up the ladder. He might be the most talented of the group but does Bryan Harsin want to give a freshman quarterback the ball when his job security was already under question heading into the season?

That remains to be seen. If I had to make a pick at this moment, while I think he will eventually see game action, Geriner is likely the third or fourth QB heading into the season opener.
