Tiger Takeover

AUBURN, Alabama—Due to Covid restrictions taking away two years of off-campus visits for college football coaches, Auburn football’s on-field staff will be on the road beginning Monday morning for the spring evaluation period for the first time since 2019 when Bryan Harsin’s 10 assistants begin the first stage of what they are calling operation "Tiger Takeover" with plans to make high schools in Alabama a major focus early in the six-week period the staff can visit schools.

“This spring evaluation period is a huge opportunity for our coaches to get out and connect,” Harsin tells Auburn247. “They will be able to watch and evaluate the guys we feel can make Auburn football better, but just as important is the opportunity to canvas the entire state of Alabama, from top to bottom and everywhere in between. Spending time at those schools, with coaches and other staff members–a Tiger takeover–that’s our primary focus as we begin the spring eval period.”

With plans to visit 230 high schools in Alabama during a 12-day period to open the evaluation period, several of Auburn’s assistants have plans to visit as many as 40 schools in the first week. That should be important for the Auburn program with the 2023 and 2024 classes in Alabama two of the best years ever in terms of overall talent in the state.

That’s just the beginning of the plans for Harsin’s staff with plenty of time spent in both Georgia and Florida, two states that have always been a big part of the most successful Auburn football teams over the years. 

Also recruiting prospects throughout the country, the Auburn staff will hit schools of many of its top targets outside of the main recruiting footprint over the next six weeks. Harsin said. That includes going to south Florida, up the coast, throughout the Midwest and hitting the West Coast as well. 

“We’ll spend that quality time in-state–in our own backyard–and make it a priority to get to almost every high school in Alabama,” Harsin said. “Then we’ll expand out, plant the Auburn flag in Georgia and throughout Florida, down into south Florida, and criss-cross into a number of other talent rich areas and states where we know the Auburn brand is strong and we have guys who want to come be a part of this program.”

The spring evaluation period will lead into the June quiet period, the time when colleges have camps on campus for prospect aged athletes as well as team 7-on-7 events. For Auburn those begin on June 3 with the first of three Elite Camps that will take place over the next week.

This is also a time when prospects will be visiting campus, both officially and unofficially, creating what should be a very busy two months for the Auburn coaches.

Definitely putting in the work. Hitting almost every school in the state is bananas. Like the effort by Hars and staff. Hope it pays off

Seems like they heard some criticism from not visiting enough schools earlier this year when they had a chance. Glad they adjust

Yeah, that's not a great plan. 

Whether its an excuse or not, it seems like Covid messed up their prefer method of going out on the road. I hope they really nail it this time.

Decided he shouldn't go to Central Last and piss off a top 20 player again.  Many ppl thought we had a good chance at Parker last year.  Hopefully we can appease him

Not necessarily anyone.  Our coaches are visiting virtually every high school in the State, hence “takeover”.

Well.... I don't recall them ever having  Power 5 player or D1 for that matter. I get it, but just seems like we could put that time and effort elsewhere but that's JMO .Maybe it will make the naysayers happy

Exactly. Making up for last year. Even if Geraldine never has a player we want, it sends a message to every HS coach in AL that the staff is invested. 

They are making a point. With actions, not words.
