When you're going for the tag, it should be at the base behind the runner. Had we done that, even if they call obstruction at 3rd base, so what? I must confess to a 40-year association with baseball, at one level or another and in one position or another. While softball isn't baseball, some fundamentals are common to both diamond sports. In a rundown, unless there's some unusual situation, the defense should always pressure the runner back. Tag action should be at the base behind the runner. Garcia singles and then moves to 2nd on a wild pitch. Packer bunts and reaches first on an error. Garcia moves to 3rd. Blaine singles and scores both Packer and Garcia. Geraghty runs for Blaine. Falls behind 3-1 on the first batter and we have a mound visit already. 5 pitch walk. Not a great way to come into the game. 1 pitch fly out. 2 pitch fly out! Single and runners on 1st and 2nd.
