Well, we had runners in scoring position and can NOT hit against a quality pitcher... Same ole story different day!! Wonder what the problem was.... Does Carisone do anything other than clap, waddle, eat leftovers, and collect guards? Need a hitting coach desperately...

I mean, I wouldn't go that far. You have to remember that this team is full of freshmen and sophomores. The only upperclassman we have in the lineup is Godwin. Not to mention we've improved so much from last year to this year. The team will learn but right now injuries to the pitching staff is what is hurting this team the most.

Edit: Just to go a bit further, in 1 season Auburn has improved their batting average as a team from .242 to .308. We've scored 334 runs and hit 83 home runs. Compared to 157 and 22. Still think this team over achieved in the beginning of the season and now that Lowe has went the past 2 months without being her normal ace self we've seen what happens. SEC is loaded with a lot of great teams and most of them play very experienced players. We are the youngest team in the SEC.

What? Our schedule this year is weaker than last... of course we will have our numbers to improve...We played a bunch of cupcakes early and those numbers you reference got inflated. And by the time all of this shakes out we will be right where we were predicted to finish towards the bottom. I believe we are currently in 9th in the standings with Ole Piss, Miss St, USC, and TX A&M behind us. Young has nothing to do with it. They are ALL seasoned veterans at this point of this season.

Note the conference BA has gone from .208 to .242, and HRs from 8 to 37.  Also, OPS has gone from .541 to .825 in-conference.  So, there has definitely been improvement at the plate.  We played an easier schedule this year to build confidence in the freshmen, and I think to pad Dean's W-L record, as he was in the last year of his contract.  I don't think he expected to make OKC this year.

I agree with tgrogan that the biggest impact on our W-L has come from losing Lowe as an effective starter.  She was our dominant pitcher last year.  Here's hoping she heals up and returns to her freshman form next year.  And I do think youth matters; one reason Arkansas has done so well is the number of 5th year seniors they have.

Remember during our WS year with the sluggers we had that we really Jumpstarted our run with like 60-3 scoring against Ark in 3 games.  I know we scored 20 plus in 2 games.  They've improved every year since and now look at them.  Great turn around for them.

Yeah. It makes it hard to see Lowe ailing. Do we know what part of her body is limiting her?

shoulder? Hand wrist etc.  whatever it is it will have to be dealt w in offseason. With her health we would have had 75% chance of winning every series.

She continues to wear a bandage on her left lower triceps.  I don't recall her doing that last year.

Wow. Did she do something to personally offend you?

Nope. Just looks like a wasted salary to me as she doesn't appear to do anything... don't see her doing much coaching.......

Ah, yes, 1 not finished season makes them "seasoned veterans". When you say that it makes you look like you don't know what you're talking about. I and Whiskey have both gave you stats showing how we've improved this season from last and you want to ignore it all because it sounds like you just don't like Carisone.

I got bored and decided to have a look at the top 3 ranked teams according to Softball America to look at their last series starters and see how experienced each team was compared to ours. I could do more teams but I have plans soon but I'm sure it'll look very similar to these three teams:

Oklahoma ranked 1st:

Freshman: 1
Soph: 4
Junior: 1
Senior: 1
RS Senior: 5

Virginia Tech ranked 2nd:

Grad: 1
SR: 2
JR: 5
Soph: 3
Fresh: 1

FSU:
Grad: 2
SR: 3
Junior: 3
Soph: 1
RS FR: 3

Oklahoma and VT both have a freshman pitcher but none of the teams start any other true freshman. And all 3 start around 8 juniors and freshman.

Now Auburn on the other hand:

SR: 1
JR: 2 (3 if you count Dismukes but she didn't start this weekend)
Soph: 4 (5 if you count Bryant but she hasn't played in a long time)
Freshman: 4

Now tell me again how age and experience doesn't matter in softball.

Did Brie finally break the freshman record for Au home runs? I saw she hit 1 in the 7th and she had been sitting on tied forever it seemed.

we just didn’t get enough hitting this weekend. Getting swept was not what they needed now.

Blaine hit the homer in the 7th, Ellis had a double. She's still at 18 but has at least 2 more games with the tournaments coming up. She's improved her non-home run hitting as she's been stuck on 18 for so long.

Great. Stats are for, well stats got better with playing lessor opponents and a false sense of accomplishments for when you go into conference play... coaching is the issue not talent.

So what about the conference play stats? Or do you just want to ignore those because it doesn't fit your narrative?

Aaaand we won 4 more games than last year in conference play with a younger lineup. *shrugs* Seems like all signs point to being better this season than last.

Probably the last time I'll reply back to this conversation because there's no real point in trying to talk to someone who refuses to look at almost every metric that proves your opinion is wrong.

Last season we played a much tougher schedule according to you but we had a better ERA on our pitching staff than this season. 2.67 ERA this season compared to 2.03 ERA last season. So, our not being better in your words is because of our pitching, not because of hitting. We hit 60 more home runs, 103 more hits, 38 more doubles, 9 more triples, 56 more walks, improved our batting average 40 points, and scored over DOUBLE the runs we did last season. A "weak" schedule doesn't make for those sorts of improvements in one off-season with a bunch of freshman starters.

We are also going to be ranked at the end of regular season and have stayed ranked ever since the 3rd week or so. If you can't see improvement then you're just disagreeing because you like to disagree. We did all of this with arguably the youngest team in the top 25 in one of the toughest conferences to play in.

I’ll add to that. And it’s even more difficult to add wins when 1 of your 2 best pitchers is injured all season. To win 4 more games was positive and helped w a much better offense to gO with. some of our freshmen that had to play hit a 2all, like Perslta who was tearing it up early. But pitchers found her weaknesses and was able to handle her.

but pitching is the key and we were not pitching with a full h3slthy roster.

I was gonna let this go but I cannot - it's just mean.  what is it you think she should do on game day/  If you can't say anything nice then perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
