Good job Mikey. You do not disappoint with your always negative take on anything Auburn/Harsin related (Hilliard is the exception that proves the rule).

Now I need some more reality checking to slow this positive momentum roll. Step up @GunsmithAU, @passthebiscuits, etc.

As I've said and will keep saying, "several" on here already have their minds made up. If we didn't get this guy, they would be saying we missed another. We get this guy and now they are trying to move the goal posts and provide redirection.

@passthebiscuits, not talking about you.

Meh I'm fine with analytics. Most coaches use them. Statistics don't lie, but stistics done matter to the individual. It's a balance game. Can't really bitch about a 10 win season as ole miss.

Statistics do not lie about the past, but are only predictors of future in generalities. You can never predict that the next time will be the result you are looking for. Thats why most coaches in sports use them to stay away from negative statistics rather than in this case aleays going for it on 4th down bc sometimes it costs you so much when the negative happens (as it always does sooner or later).

But it can equally be argued that following the pattern will lead to success more often than not.

True but it could mean success against Mercer and failure against Bama. Noone can tell when it will work, just that percentages are with you. It is fine if you could use it eith situational awareness, but if you do that you skew the statistics, so slant them against you.

I do not hold that position. I also do not believe we should include last years portal acquisitions with this years recruiting stats

Well then lets wait until this cycle's results are in. Kiffin brought in more talent than AU did last cycle. Just because AU has climbed past Ole Miss all the way to 13th in the SEC as of now doesn't mean either AU or OM will finish anywhere in particular.

It's not sustainable to rely so heavy on the portal

The portal hasn't been around long enough for anyone to make that statement. Nobody knows if relying heavily on the portal is sustainable or not.

This band's lengthy title: "A Spirit That Is Unafraid" (to tell the truth.)

Compare it to going heavy on the JUCO players which no one really does anymore

But the chances of using the stats against mercer are almost 0. This wouldn't be used in a game you dominate, unless in the 1st few drives.

Yet regardless of the analytics, this discussion started on kiffen as a coach. He took a 4-8 team to 5-5 in an all sec COVID year, then put together the schools 1st 10 win season. No scandals, fans love him, thus far recruiting just fine. Next 2 years really define what kind of HC he will be after his nick Saban coach rehab program, but between Boca and ole miss, he is killing it.

Big difference in juco and transfers.

Most juco studs were guys who didn't have the grades or had some other issue pop up.

Were seeing a lot of transfers who were starters or got extensive playing time at top tier competition.

Some differences yes, but also some similarities as well.. Another reason not to rely heavily on the portal is the rules are always changing. Hard to sustain a program with ever changing rules. Don't get me wrong, it's possible to get a couple difference makers in portal, but can't sustain a program long term that way. IMO

What the portal looks like 2 years from now doesn't matter, as of today, a team can be sustained by the portal.

The leach plan may be the best way moving forward.

Your first sentence is possibly the most contradictory statement in the history of mankind.

Kiffin is definitely having a good run at Ole Miss. if we ever need another HC, I would be good with him. He has stayed out of problems since leaving Bama. He is a quirky guy but that sometimes helps.
