Season starts 1-0!  Watched a little bit of this game.  We looked good passing the ball and creating opportunities.  ODU won the conference USA last year.  They are provisional Sun Belt this year.  We have some nice skill out there.  Banking on a good year.

AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn soccer team used a lock-down defensive effort combined with an onslaught of offensive attacks to cruise past Southern Miss, 9-0, on Sunday at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
 
The nine goals scored by the Tigers tie the second-highest total in program history and are the most since defeating Grambling State, 9-0, in 2008.
 
"What I really liked was us getting that third goal before halftime," Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said. "That third goal is really what puts a team away. That allowed us to approach the second half with the ability to play a lot of people, rest the starters and get some invaluable experience for our young players."
 
On the defensive side of the ball, junior Maddie Prohaska picked up her second clean sheet of the early season, locking down the 15^th shutout of her career. The West Chester, Ohio native also recorded two saves in the contest.
 
Auburn's pair of shutouts to open the season are the most since 2015, when the Tigers recorded six-straight to begin the year 6-0.
 
As for the Orange & Blue offense, its nine goals came via eight different goal-scorers. Graduate student Sabrina McNeill led the way with a brace. Two Tigers, junior Hannah Waesch and freshman Olivia Fout, each picked up a pair of assists in the matchup.
 
The offensive downpour began early as the Tigers did not take long to find the back of the net. In the eighth minute, junior Maddie Simpson laced a bullet into the right upper 90 off the right foot following an Auburn free kick. The goal was the first for Simpson since the 2020-21 season.
 
Auburn doubled its lead in the 34^th minute as junior Anna Haddock took advantage of a pass from redshirt-junior Marissa Arias, using a left-footer to sneak a shot inside the right post. The goal marks the second for Haddock in as many games, and the assist from Arias is her first of the year.
 
The Tigers would take a 3-0 lead into the second half after sophomore Carly Thatcher ripped off a deep shot from outside the right corner of the penalty box. Waesch picked up the assist on the play.
 
Just four minutes into the second half, freshman Hayden Colson pushed the Auburn lead to four with her first career goal in a Tiger uniform. The goal came via a corner kick from Waesch, which was then headed by senior Sydney Richards to find Colson at the center of the goal box.
 
The fifth Auburn goal of the afternoon came in the 61^st minute as Haddock headed a ball off the right post that found graduate student Sabrina McNeill for an easy chip shot off the right foot. The goal was the first for McNeill as a Tiger and the 28^th of her career, dating back to her days at Eastern Michigan.
 
McNeill picked up No. 29 just eight minutes later with a header off a 90-degree cross from the endline via freshman Olivia Fout. The assist from Fout came in only the third minute of her collegiate debut.
 
Another Tiger got in on the history-making action in the 71^st minute as senior Brooke Berdan scored her first collegiate goal, converting a penalty kick into a strike that found the lower left corner.
 
Auburn's penultimate goal came in the 73^rd minute from its seventh different scorer, sophomore Sydnie Thibodaux. Thibodaux used a pass from Fout to unleash a laser from the outside edge of the penalty arc that found the right side of the net.
 
Senior Hailey Whitaker issued the ninth and final blow of the afternoon, capitalizing on a horizontal pass from freshman Erin Houston to cross up the Southern Miss goalkeeper and find the back of the net once more. The goal was the first for Whitaker in two seasons.
 
Up next, the Tigers will hit the road for a two-game swing, first at the home of the defending national champions, No. 1 Florida State on Thursday, Aug. 25 followed by a matchup at Wake Forest on Sunday, Aug. 28. Auburn's bout with the Seminoles will kick off at 5 p.m. CT live on the ACC Network.

Equalizer!  Auburn gets a 1-1 draw against #2 and defending champ Florida State! Congrats ladies.  Supposedly FSU got their goal on a benefited call in the box to set up a PK.

Box Score Auburn, Ala. — After enduring a near two-hour weather delay, No. 16 Auburn soccer (2-0-1) battled to a tie against the reigning national champions, Florida State (1-0-2) 1-1 Thursday at the Seminole Soccer Complex.   
 
"I thought our team did a great job growing into the game, getting better as time progressed," Tigers head coach Karen Hoppa said. "We played an excellent game, certainly had our chances to win it. A tie is not always what you want, but at the end of the day, that's a really good result against the defending national champions." 
 
The Seminoles pressured the Tigers early with looks on-goal, but the Auburn defense locked down to force the shots astray. Junior goalkeeper Maddie Prohaska backed up the defensive effort with a pair of saves in the opening frame.  
 
Florida State got on the board in the 29^th minute, scoring a goal off a penalty kick from Heather Payne to take the one-point lead into the half. 
 
Auburn answered back with a goal of its own in the 63^rd minute as junior Anna Haddock took the Tigers free kick, placing a perfect strike that tailed to the six-yard box and found sophomore Sydnie Thibodaux for a powerful header into the back left of the net.  
 

 
"Anna (Haddock) played it perfectly to me and I'm glad I was able to finish it," Thibodaux said. "Today is going to be a big piece of momentum going into the next game and the rest of the season. Everyone says that they can hang with the best, but tonight we proved that Auburn truly can." 
 
The goal for Thibodaux was the second in as many games. The play also marks the second-straight game with an assist from Haddock. 
 
Defense from the Auburn back line continued to hold Seminole shots at bay in the final 45 while Prohaska controlled the game from the net, collecting seven second half saves to finish the night with nine total, one shy of tying her career high.  
 
"I think that our defense showed tonight that we can hang with any championship-caliber team," Prohaska said. "Our defense is more than the back four it's all 11 of us. We showed just how gritty we are and that we do focus on the details." 
 
The Tigers' offense finished the night with six shots to the Seminoles' 17. Auburn spread the load with all six coming via different players.  
 
Both Prohaska and Florida State's Roque went the distance in the net, conceding one goal apiece. Roque recorded two saves on Tiger chances. 
 
Auburn continues its ACC swing with another road test at Wake Forest Sunday, Aug. 28. Kickoff is set for noon CT.

Oh and new rules this year.  No overtime during regular season.  Only in postseason. So a lot more draws to be had.

Auburn draws with Wake Forest 0-0. Only watched 2nd half. Their defense would always get in a deflection.  Auburn definitely created more chances in 2nd half.  Had about 3 solid ones and their goalie was fantastic.  Evidently Haddock had a PK opportunity in 1st half but was stopped by the goalie.  She had a game. WF tried a flop in the box with a minute to go and got a yellow for the attempt.  Overall pretty even effort from both teams but Auburn should have won this one.  A little disappointing but got a result.  2-0-2 on the year.

Update:  We are 6-3-5.  We recently had a 3game losing streak of 0-1 games, 2 ranked teams in that mix.  We have come back to win 2 straight and play TAMU tomorrow.

We finished regular season with 6 each of wins losses and ties.  Lost to the #1 team 1-0 in the 86th minute. Missed the SEC tourney but await NCAA selection Nov 7th. We seemed better than our record but couldn't finish a lot of games.  Young team coming back next year.
