Auburn quarterback T.J. Finley is expected to miss Auburn’s game against LSU this weekend with a shoulder injury, according to Tom Green of AL.com.

Finley has been sidelined for more than a week now with what Green revealed to be a Grade 2 sprain to the AC joint in Finley’s right shoulder. It’s not clear yet when Finley might return to play.

Finley transferred to Auburn from LSU in 2021 after spending one season in Baton Rouge. He entered the season as the starter for Auburn before getting banged up. Auburn eked past Missouri, 17-14, in overtime in the first game that Finley did not play in.

In place of Finley, Oregon transfer Robby Ashford would be the starter but he got banged up and struggled against Missouri, and true freshman Holden Geriner also got some run. Things had not exactly been clicking for the Auburn offense when Finley was running things, but it’s been a clear step back without him.

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin offered an update on the quarterback room earlier today

Three quarterbacks have taken snaps for Auburn this season despite TJ Finley being announced the starter before the opener. He has been dealing with an injury and did not play against Missouri at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday. Now, another tough SEC game is on the docket, with LSU coming to the Plains.

Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin gave the latest update on Finely, saying the quarterback was practicing on Monday. As for his status, day-to-day was how Harsin described it but that’s not any different than other players returning from a missed game.

“He was out there yesterday,” Harsin said. “Day-to-day with him and all those guys. It’s going to be that way when guys come back from missing a game but we’ll see how he goes today, we’ll see what it looks like.”

Finley played in the first two games with no issues but had to be removed during the loss against Penn State. One of his shoulders seems to be affecting the quarterback and even with the information that he’s back in practice, Finley’s status for the LSU game is unknown.

Am I teading this wrong. At the first if the article says he is out for LSU game, at the end it says it is unknown if he will play?

The Article says AL.com  reporter Tom Green is reporting Finley will be out...assumedly this info comes from sources with knowledge of the situation.

Harsin is not saying one way or the other, and calls Finley day-to-day.

I had a minor AC tear. It certainly won’t help to have him back if he’s struggling with that. I could barely lift my arm above my shoulder.

Might cut down on interceptions.

2-4 week recovery assuming everything is healing as it should, and he's not out hitting home runs with tennis rackets.

Not a small injury...AC joint never really heals 100%...will have to make some adjustments in his mechanics.  Could be the season depending on how Robby/Geriner comes along.

Sure the OL is playing poorly but THIS is Auburn being Auburn: 1st & 3d string QBs out and 2d banged up? Insanely unusual injury scenario for most teams but common for Auburn and bottom line - the injuries are from just playing the game.
