December Portal: Expected to be unheard of....this is good for Auburn

Lots of talking heads starting to look at the December portal + NIL and expect it to be like something we haven't seen.  This is good for Auburn if we can play it right.  I have my doubts, but if we can hire the right AD, hire the right coach to take advantage of NIL, and position our self nicely....we could quickly make great leaps forward and shorten a rebuild time.

If there was a perfect time to fire a coach & start fresh, it is now.  We just need our AD/Coach to come together and get that booster cash flowing.

It's hard to see how we are. Still no AD and still no idea what direction we are moving. A lot of teams are going to be looking to build off the portal that have a big head start on Auburn.

I don't disagree.  We need to get things set.  The sooner the better.  There will be a lot of competition in the portal, no doubt.  But A&M has showed if you are desperate enough and willing enough, you can over achieve.

Ok, you know....do the right thing and just fire Harsin immediately.

IDK, maybe our AD/Pres is praying Harsin turns it around, beat Slaw, Aggies, MSU, WKU (or at least 3-4), and they can somehow "mutually part ways" and let him go to Arizona State.  It's the only logic that I can cling too, even at a massive long shot

Looking at that graphic....man Jimbo Fisher is such an idiot lol

I completely take back everything I said about how I wish we would've gotten him if Gus left in 17. He is a FRAUD.

Every fan of college football should have seen chaos coming with the Transfer Portal- NIL combination in effect.

Opportunity to rebuild a team is there for the taking. Are we positioned to take advantage of the chaos? Time will tell.

Every year will be like a rebuild. Looks more and more like the NFL model.

Auburn should contact every OL on a top 15 team that does not start and offer a minimum of 75K to sign. Every single back up at Alabama and Georgia should be hounded.

I'm not trying to be idealistic I know the OL cannot be fixed instantly but get the talent there and let your new coaches go to work. You haave UMASS, @Cal, Samford to start next season before SEC play. You can work out some things there.

When all this started I said I'd watch it for five years before I decided whether to continue following college sports or not. I've got four years to go but so far I don't care for what I'm seeing.

I believe eventually there will be some form of legislation to regulate this mess. But it's the wild west right now

Good stuff, thanks. Now that Harsin's bought into the NIL concept, our projected world class NIL funds plus Auburn-sells-Auburn recruiting should equal top 10 recruiting classes again soon. I'd love to know how NIL funding/steering is accomplished at top shelf programs like AU - it's very hush hush so far. Like if an ADs salary can be tied to NIL amount brought in on his/her watch, some NFL front office folk may seriously look at AD gigs now.

This is like the NFL model with 1 major exception. The NFL has multi-year contracts before free agency. In college football, everybody is a free agent every year. That is not a sustainable model.

Far to logical for AU anyway.

They also have salary caps. This is going to be the worst of NFL and MLB combined with basically rolling a bunch of football player-shaped dice out of a yahtzee cup every year.

I don’t see much difference when I watch the game. Maybe the better approach would be to “not watch how the sausage is made”.

Build a consistent and good team you're not going to lose top talent or you'll rarely lose 'em.

Many NFL specialists go with single  year contracts. More and more each year.

We shall see. We actually saw two of top three trading players. This new world may slowly create kinks in their armor.

Burton is a pretty meh player.  Now Bama getting Jamo, I agree.  I don't think Bama/UGA/OSU really lost anyone of real importance.

I believe NIL will become the main driver. Once they get a ring, even the best will be inclined to move for the money. In the least the ones right behind them will be inclined. These teams are dominated by these specific personalities, but I believe that diminishes going further.

The weight of NFL money probably outweighs the incremental amount one could leave Bama as a starter for elsewhere.  That's still the end goal with 99% of these kids.
