Gunner Britton, the No. 5 OT in the transfer portal, commits to Auburn

Auburn already has the No. 3 ranked offensive tackle in the transfer portal in former Tulsa tackle Dillon Wade. Now, Auburn has the No. 5 ranked offensive tackle in the transfer portal in former Western Kentucky tackle Gunner Britton. Britton is the No. 59 overall player in the 247Sports transfer portal player rankings.

Britton arrived in Auburn on Wednesday for an official visit and ends up an Auburn commit before he can even leave.

The former Western Kentucky tackle is one of the most experienced offensive linemen in the transfer portal, arriving and redshirting in 2018 and then playing in every game but two for the Hilltoppers since 2019. In 2019 he was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team. In 2022 he was named to the second team All-Conference USA.

Originally from Conway, South Carolina, Britton has one year of eligibility remaining. Western Kentucky lists Britton at 6-foot-6, 305 pounds.

Joining Wade, Auburn now has two experienced offensive tackles added to a roster that lacked any sort of experience going into the 2023 season. From the 2022 roster it was just redshirt freshman Colby Smith returning, but Smith has played just one snap at Auburn. Back in December Auburn signed Izavion Miller, the No. 4 offensive tackle in the 247Sports JUCO Composite rankings.

Even with Britton, Wade and Miller added to the roster, Auburn remains active in the portal for at least one more offensive tackle. Auburn is also still in search of a center and offensive guard in the transfer portal.

Britton will enroll at Auburn shortly and go through spring practice.

This marks four transfer pickups for Auburn after already landing Wade, former Vanderbilt pass-rusher Elijah McAllister and former FIU tight end Rivaldo Fairweather.

Auburn Undercover will continue to update this story.

It seems like this staff recognizes areas of weakness.   Crazy!

It’s been like a decade since we’ve had that. What an amazing concept!

Well that will help!  Although his QB has a quick release lol.  I'll take it.

Dang it's REALLY quiet in here considering we just got one of the best true tackles we've had in YEARS! Ladies and gentlemen, I think we have our starting tackles and left guard front runners on campus before spring training!

And it’s not like western kentucky was a service academy team running the triple option. They passed A LOT. Big sample size.
