There were Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina caps and a Tennessee T-shirt. There was nothing from Auburn. Stepping to a podium, Hawthorne thanked his family, his coaches and his teammates. He talked about the difficulty of his decision. Then he reached in a box and pulled out another cap, one that said "War Eagle" on the front. "I'm going to spend the next four years of my life at Auburn," he said, bringing loud applause from the crowd as he slipped a blue No. 12 Auburn jersey over his head.
