If you guys don't suffer a heavy hit, with this failure to keep your business in order while on probation or gods sake, I will lose faith that the NCAA is actually present to keep the playing field level and student atheletes amatuers.

If you guys lose a couple schollies when you failed to handle your business while still under the gun from paying at least the one player they caught you paying it would be a failure of the NCAA system.

You had faith in the NCAA to begin with?

Exactly. While I do believe that collegiate sports need some sort of control mechanism, the NCAA does a poor job in most cases. See "USC/Reggie Bush". While the USC situation does not excuse Alabama from anything, I find it ironic that the NCAA is still churning on that with an abundance of evidence, yet is swiftly dealing with other matters. Makes absolutely no sense.

So is it true or not that AU has been caught cheating more than BAMA?

Notice the keyword...we just don't cover it up as well as Bama...but like they say..."It's only cheating if you get caught"

I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with what you say about USC. The NCAA is proving to be a joke. But in their defense it took 3 million dollars and federal authorities to convict Logan Young. And I believe he was using a casino to move cash. Cash is difficult to follow and that is why when USC or Bama is caught they should get the ultimate HAMMER.

You say the NCAA need a "control mechanism". Well, they had Logan with the goods and I assume you, like me, don't believe that is the only time Logan or the REC has done what he was convicted for. The salary cap I mean probation did hurt bammer but based on what has gone on since the probation ended, does anyone believe bammer learned anything other than covering the "trail" better?

I don't see us getting hit all that hard by this. I certainly don't expect anything like the Ball State penalty. Their "TextbookGate" included alot more athletes across many more sports, and the players were actually making money off of it if I recall correctly. Plus, I believe they were getting things like Ipods, etc, as well. In NCAA terms, they were dealing with a "lack of institutional control". We are looking at "failure to monitor". I believe Ball State was on probation when their "TextbookGate" occured as well, and it wasn't handled as a repeat offender. They were handled as a summary disposition.

Our probationary window will more than likely be extended, and maybe a few scholarships over a few years lost as a punishment to the institution. The NCAA approved the reinstatement of the players involved after their suspension, so more than likely that will cover punishment on the players' end.

But then again, its the NCAA. Who knows....

Truthfully, the biggest difference is that Ball State wasn't in the repeat offender window. Small potatoes can become Idaho's finest in cases like this. Nobody knows what the NCAA will do, mainly because they have no benchmarks to go by.

You say the NCAA need a "control mechanism".

No, I said collegiate sports need some sort of control mechanism. The NCAA is supposed to be that control mechanism right now, but it always seems that they are in disarray. There is no logic or procedure to how they do things.

Old Rumors.

New details. Keep digging.

Who knows, they may accidentally dig something up on barner and if that was to happen that would be the 4th time to be put on probation after the ncaa was investigating bama according to wartiger anyway.

well, it seems at least part of your fanbase knows how things worked back then. sorry you have had your head buried in the sand all these years. or perhaps you are one that really believes uat is always innocent. Oh, no wait...your defense to uat cheating is everybody does it.... that's it...

obviously this was not posted yesterday as is indicated in the post. enjoy

The thing about WT is that if AU wasn't doing anything wrong to start with they wouldn't have gotten put on probation. That is simple enough for me.

"Understand however that this is the same athletic department that received a letter last year and wouldn't confirm they received that initial letter either. Hopefully for bama fans it's just false and nothing more to it, i think they have went through enough early this decade."

Whatever. It's not the fans fault but the school they pull for is guilty of far more than they have been penalized for.

I say give bammer and USC the death penalty and the BS would stop.

hate to disagree with you, but the death penalty, while it would be great fun to watch the uaters squirm without a program, will NOT stop the cheating at uat. NOTHING can stop the cheating at uat. It's what they do. They know of no other way to compete. That said, I'd still love to see them get what they've deserved for close to 100 years.

This statement coming from a fan of a school that has been caught cheating more than anyone else (except SMU). I love the offseason.

and this statement from a fan of the boosters that were directly responsible for at least 3 of those probations. A little research into your own universities history will do you a world of good...

I'll help...since I have always been one to help the less fortunate. Here's a quote widely circulated in the south for over 20 years....

"Anytime the NCAA investigates alabama, auburn goes on probation." research is your friend... get the librarian to help you..

And the conspiracy begins........errr continues.

Hee hee. I'll mis you when you're gone. Won't be long now. At least BG will come visit us when all the mouthy ones are gone.

Mouthy? I very rarely speak up on this site.

1,200 posts on a rival's message board hardly qualifies as "rarely".

1200 posts over 4 and a half years. Thats a little more than 1/2 post a day. Not nearly as much as you would think.

The is 3/4 of a post per day maintained for quite a long time. Yeah, you are in fact saying a lot over here.

OK...here's the speculated problem...you don't get hit tooooo hard with textbook gate...but it DOES extend the window...and then when/if they come back with Gadsden, Memphis or anything else, you're doomed...in the figurative sense...I DON'T believe they'll give you the death penalty....

Not true. Auburn was put on probation in 1957 and had done nothing wrong. Remember Don Fuell

Curious to hear the explanation for this statement.

'57 had the same charge as '58, IIRC. Improper recruiting inducements.

57 couldn't have been the same as 58.... 57 happened first....or did you fail that class at uat? Now 58 could have been the same as 57.....either way...both thanks completely to uat and their fake encyclopedia sales men.

Both were for improper recruiting inducements. The NCAA really provides no further information for those two charges on their site other than the charges and the penalties. I'm guessing that is because it is from the 50's.

If you were smart, you should stay away from this one since I doubt you have a clue about the Don Fuell case. Bammers have been trying to deny the truth for over 50 years now. The NCAA doesn't say what Auburn was penalized for because they NEVER proved the accusations. Fact is you can't prove false accusations. I know the truth in this casre from first hand personal involvement.

If my memory is correct, the 1958 violation was for an ass't coach taking a kid to a movie during his visit and buying his ticket.

Ah, I forgot. Auburn has never ever cheated. The only trouble AU has ever had with the NCAA was because of Bear Bryant and his meddling. Anything after Bryant? Simple misunderstandings. Sorry, now I understand. The NCAA sure would be smart to put you on the investigations committee.
