Tennessee is playing some good ball but I think the Tigers can seal the deal this weekend.

Auburn baseball can play its way into SEC tourney this weekend

By Charles Goldberg -- The Birmingham News

Auburn hasn't qualified for the SEC baseball tournament the last six seasons, but the Tigers can end their drought this weekend.

No. 18 Auburn plays host to Tennessee beginning Friday night with the magic number of two to qualify for the tournament. The Tigers may not stop there. They can improve their chances of taking over first place in the SEC West as well as jumping to the top in the overall conference standings.

Each league team has six regular-season conference games remaining.

Auburn has won five straight league games to improve to 33-16 overall and 15-9 in the SEC. Auburn and Ole Miss are a game behind Arkansas for first in the SEC West. Auburn trails Florida and South Carolina by two games for the best overall record.

Tennessee is 27-21 overall and 11-13 in the league. The Vols have won five straight league games. Auburn and Tennessee have each won their last three league series.

Tonight's 6:30 pitching matchup features Auburn's Cory Luckie (6-2, 6.10) against Stephen McCray (5-3, 2.78). Auburn hasn't announced its Saturday 3 p.m. starter. Tennessee will start Steven Gruver (4-3, 5.51). Auburn's Sunday 1 p.m. starter will be Grant Dayton (6-2, 5.00). Tennessee hasn't announced its starter.

Well, not off to a good start, Tennessee laying the wood to us tonight. 3-9 going into the bottom of the 9th...

BTW, the umpires sucked tonight. Not that we couldn't have helped ourselves by not stranding so many runners, but the strike zone for the home plate ump was inconsistent all night. And to whatever degree it was consistent, it was consistently low. And they missed what looked like a balk to everyone in the stadium that resulted in a key baserunner getting tagged out. Coach P was having a fit out there on three different occasions.

Mummey hit a Grand Slam and is followed by another HR. 12-0 Auburn.

Up 16-0. Wish we could have seen this type of game last night.

Cole Nelson throws 3 hit CG shut-out in 18-0 win.

First CG Shut-out since Josh Sullivan v. VMI in March 2005.

got home a while ago and checked and saw this score. Looks like we really opened up a can on them today. WOW...18 runs on 22 hits and we didn't score after the 5th inning? Pitching came through today too giving up only 3 hits. Nice.

And with Ole Miss and Arky losing today, I believe we moved into a tie for the West lead?

Yes we did.

tigers got 2 more. Hunter morris home run included. 9-2 TIGERS. Mummey already has hit 2 homers today. That should give us the new single season record. I believe we had 101 coming in to todays game. Record set last year was 103, so we should be sitting at 104 now.

top of the 9th, still 9-2 TIGERS. GAME OVER...TIGERS WIN 9-2. Tennessee finished with 11 hits but could only plate 2 runs. Great series win for the TIGERS. They at least stay tied for First in the SEC West
