I'm not sure who Dean's top pitcher is. Penta hasn't been her "old self" lately. Still, saving pitching in a four team double elimination setup is folly. Use your best first. That way #1 can go in games 1 and 3.

You always play the game that is in front of you. Not the 2nd or 3rd game.

    highlights on this guy

Well I watched the complete hi lite. I understand it is one game but it is a hi lite reel. He made 2 outside shots, 1 mid range and the rest were drive to the basket. I have no idea how many outside or mid ranges he took but from this video he is a drive to the basket guy. I thought we were needing guys that can consistently knock it down from the outside. Does he really fit a need for us?

  3. When CBM first got thrown out of the game , my first thought was "How juvenile, this could cost AU this  game". I then thought about myself at that age. I got tossed from a football game and baseball game in the same year in high school. May be the record still today. A lot of emotion, adrenaline and testosterone  running through you at that age.

No need for us to be down on him

It seems like we are still behind on NIL. Bruce Pearl has said it multiple times in interviews without actually saying it. Hugh Freeze doesn’t want to “overspend” on one guy, but maybe it’s because he still doesn’t have the budget that other teams (Ohio St, LSU, etc.) are working with.

It’s been said on this board that Auburn is funded by at least 4 billionaires. It’s time for them to open up their pocket books and get us better players! The coaches can only do so much in the new NIL world that we’re living in.

No matter the institution, organization, school or whatever, if they are living off donations, they never have enough. It is how they continue to operate. Can you imagine if your local church tells it members " we have made our budget for the year" and only 9 months into the year, then donations cease for that year and will be reduced for following year.

I don't imagine Ohio State and LSU are telling their fanbase that they have enough NIL money. I am sure they are still begging also.

Alabama's kicker wasn't even the best kicker in the Iron Bowl. That is just silly.

He is not the best kicker in the league for sure. Depending on whatever metric you (attempts, makes, length) he does not lead in any category. UGA kicker had more attempts, more makes and higher percentage.

You need to consider that Auburn is in uncharted territory. You need to consider the number of last second transfers we got just to field a team. You need to consider who Freeze could also hire. All of those things will impact preparation. Then, you have to consider that the coaching staff put the team in a position to win. Then, the coaches have to consider the players they have and what they can and cannot execute. You have seen them in practice and in games not able to do certain things.

Then, you lose even more faith in your players when your punt returner fumbles the ball. How can he do that? And you know your guys can't generate a pass rush. YOU KNOW ALABAMA WILL HOLD, and it won't be called this late in the game. YOU KNOW HE WILL STILL HAVE TIME TO THROW.

    What do you do?

The best decision is to force Milroe to stay home and throw because you have film on him making some bad throws when he has to stay in the pocket. You have film on him excelling while throwing the ball well on the run or taking off and running. This guy without a doubt could have run it in for a TD.

Saban on the other hand is thinking this, I have the very best players in college football, and I know they can do almost anything. I know we will have plenty of pass protection time. So I will send my great NFL WRs deep, and will I allow my strong armed NFL QB to make a play because I have seen it in practice. I know he is going to win the Heisman next year.

And after all this, you decide that "we have coaches that don't know how to win?"

First year coaches struggle and that is a fact not lost on avid college football fans like myself.

Lots of assumptions here and I won’tcomment on them except the last sentence. These are not first year coaches. They have coached at this level before. They have been in pressure situations before. They should have performed better. With the exception of Harsin, you could see and feel AU teams get better in the first year of Dye, Bowden, Tubervillle, Chizek and Malzhan.
That’s what avid football fans see.

At least Freeze said six wins were not  enough. Should have been 7 or 8 .  I know this is his first year and recruiting seems to be going great, but I would only give him a "C" grade on coaching and execution in his first year.  However, it is a lot to learn and absorb in less than a full years timeframe.  Hopefully recruiting will  be an "A",  unless HF is like Gus and makes 4-stars into 2-stars.

I think C is being generous. I would grade him C- to D. The complete lack of preparation for the NMSU game and the rushing of 2 men (before the play , everyone in the stands around me said the same thing; put pressure on the QB. Do not give him time to find an open man) indicates to me that this staff is below average for this level of football. This team would have the opportunity to play for their 9th win in a bowl game if we would have had decent coaching this year. That would have been huge. But now, we have the possibility of a losing season.

I was very much pleased with Freeze hiring initially, but I have been severely disappointed over the year. No real improvement on the offense from game 1. We are still a terrible passing team. There was a thread a few weeks ago about wanting players on your team that know how to win vs more talented players. That same thought can apply to coaches and right now we have coaches that do not know how to win.

Auburn plays Notre Dame today at 9pm eastern time. We caught Notre Dame at the right time as they are in rebuild mode. Whole new team after their long time coach stepped down after last season. Auburn at an 88% chance to win according to ESPN. Notre Dame is 1-1 on the season. They beat Niagara and lost to Western Carolina. And thats about the limit of my intel on this matchup. If anyone has more insight on Notre Dame please share!

Also of note, Oklahoma State and St Bonaventure play at 6:30 eastern today. We'll play one of those teams I think on Friday.

Fun fact. Mike Brey the former Notre Dame coach was originally scheduled to become Auburn's head basketball coach in 1994 but some late snags in negotiations caused him to back out.

  9. Glad we won even with it being Vandy. I think we now lead the all time series with them. Biggest positive to me was Thornes play. He looked pretty comfortable overall and delivered catchable balls to his receivers. Hopefully that continues.Hunter is also playing very well.

Outside of the obvious receiver drops and play. My negative is the O line. Once you take out Hunter’s 3 longest runs for the day  we gained 83 yds rushing on the other 34 attempts. A little over 2 yds per attempt. That is not winning the line of scrimmage on a consistent basis.
Somewhat in conjunction with that is I feel we have more negative yardage plays than anyone. We can take a 2nd and short and turn it into 3rd and long quicker than anyone. According to the telecast yesterday our avg 3rd down was 10 yards yesterday. That is not winning football.
Lastly, Cobb needs to get Battie’s carries. He seems under utilized.
