  1. We showed up to play mighty Maryland without a defensive plan and were out of the game before we knew what to do.  The defense didn't show up to play NMS at all - blown out by NMS?!?!!  Wow!  And 4th and 31 speaks for itself.  Roberts had to be removed.

Roberts was known to be abrasive when Freeze hired him.  Montgomery didn't even have the same offensive philosophy as Freeze and yet was hired to take over the offense.  I hope CHF does a better job this time - he's used his  mulligan.

Both came last week better for one on one recruiting imo

Last weekend was a brilliant move - we brought in top prospects and Bama commits.  Bama scheduled their junior day on top of ours and by adding the previous Saturday as more of a one-on-one event for select prospects our staff one-upped Bama.

Haven't seen that said. Just saw one reporter say don't count him out like DJ just because he's a 2 *.

My comment is a blending of the quote you saw and premium content that I can't quote.  It's a post by a paid analyst on a message board that says his status (as someone with smaller offers) "will change" - not "may", but "will"..  You'll find it.  That's why I said this is going to be fun.

  4. Kameron Brown's recruitment is going to be fun.  I'm wondering how he could be the county defensive player of the year in Gwinnett County according to a newspaper, and yet not even be a rated prospect.  Over 900,000 people live in Gwinnett County, so a lot of football players live there.  If you watch his HUDL you'll see speed isn't his problem.  Some say he's another Williams - Auburn's attention and his films are going to blow him up.  We'll see.  At any rate I hope Derrick sticks around to play a year with his brother, like the Carlsons.

@im4au Your post was about the remainder of the class. Putnam is not covered in that statement. I've already said the subpar season thus putting Gus's job security in question is why we lost Putnam. To be clear it was the season & Gus putting his own job in jeopardy that hurt us in recruiting while his job was not secure. Not the fans being frustrated & voicing it. Another reason his job being secure now will not have an affect on this class, most of the good recruits have signed. At this point we are going to get who we are going to get regardless.

Now if we had lost to Purdue Gus's job would have been seen as not secure for a bit as the PTB would have tried once again to push Gus out but I think Leath would have still kept Gus again. For that time Gus's job would seem unsecure with the money people pushing it could have cost us guys like MAR & Pickens. So I guess if we are playing dominoes the win over Purdue could help the class as it has made Gus's job secure for this immediate season. It's all about job security.

Then we agree that the turmoil hurt us, but isn't as much a factor going forward. The pickings are slim now, but we still have to sell transfers and prospects on visiting us.  I hope Auburn fans and sites have learned a lesson about spreading "News" that doesn't have a traceable source.

It won’t have an affect on this class. The best it can do is have an affect on the 2020 class if he builds on this win with a successful season next year. FWIW Cain was never coming to AU at all. Yes Gus’s job security hurt in the recruitment but it did not make a winnable difference.

We'll have to agree to disagree.  I've seen way too many comments about our turmoil by analysts concerning recruits backing away and not signing, re/ Putnam etc.

  7. Gus said in an interview that he thought the bowl game would help recruiting.  I would normally say one game wouldn't have much of an effect (and I know KN has said that), but not in this case.  Noah Cain's comments show the damage we've suffered. Opposition recruiters were using our unrest against us, but we look much more stable after the MCB.  Maybe it was just for one game, and maybe other factors were at play, like slow B10 speed, but our new organization worked and our offense was a lot better.  We have some positive things to talk about now, and that sure beats defending against negativity.

  8. If you follow Spiegelman's tweet string you'll see a stream of Joiner highlight plays.  My favs were the one I posted above, a layout catch on a bomb, and one weaving through traffic before bursting through defenders at the goal line.  I think the problem we had with Joiner was he wanted to be a "pure" rb and we wanted him as an H.  I think when he fell to the numbers game at LSU he decided H might be a good fit.  Sure looks like an H to me.

  9. Barnett exposed a little known loophole in the 4-2-4 rule.  He'll be able to play during the fourth week of the season in 2017 by transferring to a two-year school, meeting some easy academic requirements, and returning to a four-year school.  He could practice next year during the mostly non-conference games and play when the conference gets serious.
