Point was I think Widra should have had more pitching opportunities, particularly in the early non-conference games. Having a trusted 3rd pitcher would have been great this last third of the season.

Agreed.  If you look at the stats and include conference only/pitching AB has a better ERA and the last game hasn't been added since it doesn't show a win. I'm sure the numbers are skewed since she pitched the least but in many cases she was brought in as a last ditch effort.  I'll admit - I'm a big fan of hers.  Her intensity in a game whether pitching or playing third/second needs to be what our other players should aspire to!  (IMO)

He’s a baseball guy. I know he likes to sit down by the home bullpen…still haven’t seen him but like once or twice (and I’ve been to a ton of SB games). I’ve been to a few baseball games and have seen him in the HOF club every game. We’ll see how much he cares about softball based on the head coaching hire. If it was baseball, I’m almost certain Cohen wouldn’t mind dropping a bag to get a good HC, so we’ll just see.

Yes he's baseball - I know that.  All I was saying is that he isn't in the dark about softball.  I don't know where you sit but my seats are behind the visitng dugout and I have seen him at most of the games I've been able to attend.  I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves me wrong.

We still have a chance in a regional with Penta or Lowe in the circle, but I will look forward to the next head coach and staff to provide a different perspective, specifically for our hitters.

As of April 30th AU is projected to be the #2 in Tallahassee......don't know if this weekend will change that or not.  Would help to take the series.

Well,  I never have,  but as they say,  absence of evidence is not necessarily evidence of absence.  I used to see Jacobs there periodically in the past.

He has been at numerous games.  He's a baseball guy - I believe he understands the importance of softball and knows how to evaluate the needs of the program.

I think if there is anything this season has taught us it’s that NOBODY on this current coaching staff is capable of running this program successfully. Love Love Love Carasone but if Cohen promotes her to HC, it’ll be a super lazy hire and reaffirm my belief that he truly doesn’t care about softball.

i mean seriously has anyone seen him at any of the softball games? I see him on tv damn near every baseball game in the HOF club, i’ve been to about half the SB games this year and I’ve not seen this man once. Including today vs UK when there was nothing else going on!!!

I genuinely want to know if any of you have seen him there.

Actually, I've seen AD Cohen at numerous games.  He stands in the Auburn bull pen. You are looking in the wrong place I guess.

What did Lech say here?  Oh my.

This was posted by Bri's sister - let not assume that she is a lipreading expert or just stirring the pot.  I'm not arguing either way but assuming Lech said something nasty is unfalr to Lech. Bri had a great series against her former team.  I would say I saw her make some "signs" to her dugout which seemed a little nasty so there's that. (which she conveniently cut off before Bri made her gesture)

All right! We'll take it, but if S-G only scores 6 points tonight our girls might as well have their bags packed.

Hope we all shoot well.  In the first game against LSwho we shoot 44.1% and in the second only 37.5%.  Will need to be at least at 45% (my guess) to beat them today and the defense will need to not foul and get Angel in foul trouble!

Coach Harris benched her for much of the game. Anybody know what that was about?

They were playing a box & one defense when Scott-Grayson was on the floor, which opened a lot of opportunities for some other players to score.

Honesty played 29 minutes as did Shaw.  Only Jamaya played more at 31. Because of their defense Honesty wasn't having the best day and the rest of the team was scoring so resting her legs wasn't such a bad decision.  As a team we shot 46.8% - pretty good outing.

Glad to get the road win.  That late game possession call awarded to Florida really was a suck call.  Even the announcers were convinced it would be overturned upon review.

Pretty bogus call as Florida did not have possession of the ball!

I checked as well and Scott didn't have any rebounds. I don't think that Akinbolawa played last night. I watched some of the game last night and that's what stood out to me the most. I didn't see any offensive rebounds after we missed shots. I am surprised that we played them as close as we did.

If Honesty had some additional help and/or we had a decent-good post player, our conference record would be alot better.

    Akinbolawa has a broken thumb.

If someone cares to validate this, our two centers appear to have had zero rebounds in checking both the NCAA.com and ESPN box scores. Angel Reese had 20

    that cannot be real

According to the stats for the LSU game - that is correct.

Team beats Utah 1-0. Penta goes the distance (she’s incredible).

    My Takeaways:

    - Lopez is a pretty good pitcher, Auburn struck for 0 XBH, but drew 7 walks and inked 8 hits.
    - I thought the offense hit well (over .300 against Lopez), but holy cow it is almost  impossible for them to get a base hit or even put it in play with runners in scoring position (0-8 with RISP and they stranded 10 runners).
    - There were some head scratchers from Dean (as usual). He didn’t sacrifice bunt three times with runners on and nobody out and the aftermath of the next few batters would’ve likely scored a run each time.

Much bigger fish on Saturday as we will likely see Cagle (and Garcia, may I add) against Clemson.

FYI on Garcia - her current hitting stats as of now - on base - .203, slugging - .294, batting average - .176.  She's playing right field.  I hope she doesn't start getting in her grove until after we play them!

Good game - I will say this team is just 90s-2000s as hell (maybe all women’s teams are). As a modern basketball appreciator, seeing how many blatantly open 3s well pass up for a long 2 or a post entry pass through 2 defenders…oh well. I give them props for not adjusting to not having shooters

Hopefully that’s coming in next season!!

Good or bad - not all teams are built for threes.  Sometimes it may be better to pass up a three (even with a good look) to get the higher percentage 2 and maybe draw the foul driving.  The refs were not consistent last night (and generally haven't been all season). It will be interesting to see how the game against Bama is called on Sunday!

  14. attendance is trending up - for home games (according to the stats on the AU webiste4 for WBB)

    19-20 - 1843

    20-21 - 618

    21-22 - 2194

    23-23 - 2212

    23-24 (with home games remaining) - 4559

I'll give you that the game against Bama that include the jersey retirement for Dewanna is in those numbers but there is some excitement being generated this year.  The jungle (although not as big as for a men's game) added some spark last night!

Bri Ellis going to Arkansas just proves she wants to win games. Not be closer to home; Only an hour closer to home. This blows because it basically means she has no trust in our staff to take her to the next level of postseason softball which we all knew they were not capable of. This sucks.

Arkansas was 40-19, 14-10 in conference - Auburn 43-19, 15-9 in conference.  Don't know it's about winning games.  Think there are things that we don't know.

  16. Suggestion - everyone should send a well thought out email to John Cohen - you will probably get some canned response about your passion for the program but it will help him discern interest in the program.  I sent him a trend chart for batting average, slugging percentage, on base and fielding % for the time Dean has been here.  If you look at those averages the team is basically flat.   jac0235@auburn.edu

I also sent a note to On to Victory.......I got a long response that was mostly an excuse although they did say all of the team was signed up........don't know what that means, how they participated, etc.  They need to do more to support women's athletics as I am sure we don't have many (if any) big money donors.

Garcia and McCondiche are now graduates.  I don't consider grad transfers within numbers of transfer outs, IMO.  At least from a numbers standpoint. Still will miss their play.

As a reminder - if not for the COVID year they would be gone unless they had a red shirt.  Aspyn would not have been here this year.

  18. Just a comment regarding the possibility that the NIL may play into some of the decisions the players are making.  IF you contribute to On to Victory, softball specifically, may I suggest that you contact them.  I haven't seem them doing much support of the non-revenue sports and have read opinions that the lack  of NIL support may have cost us players in women's basketball.  I have no idea what the softball team is getting but I would guess that there are a number of schools that are way ahead of Auburn in NIL support of softball.
