I will be blunt, I’m frustrated by the fact that almost all non-clickbait discussion is behind paywalls now. I completely get it but it doesn’t mean I don’t miss the days where you had multiple options to get free info.

It's not wise to depend on 1 HS QB over 2 recruiting cycles. It's not a slight to White. The position is simply too important for all eggs in one basket.

The exception is if you go portal QB heavy, like Kiffin for example. But that's not Freeze's approach. Fingers crossed for Juju.

As great as Juju would be he’s a long shot imo. So, assuming he sticks with Lincoln, we’re going to need an insurance policy for the reasons DAG says, but also because of how many times we’ve been bitten with QBs of WW’s profile. If PT proves to be the handicap to any improvement that some pundits seem to think he is, the pressure to have a jump in 2025 (when we’ll be returning potentially just SEVEN starters!) will be parabolic.

If Auburn doesn’t get JuJu, they’d have to go after a Portal QB regardless. Thorne is moving on and it’s unlikely that either Geriner or Brown would stay to remain a backup for the ‘25 season. Auburn is unlikely to go after a portal QB right now under a (likely) promise to JuJu but if we miss out on him, even when we get another HS QB, Auburn will take a portal guy.

Assuming JuJu doesn’t sign with us, would we still have enough time to go after a TP QB? I know ESD moved up, so I would think so, but I truly believe we’re going to need a boost for ‘25. Think about it, the fanbase is likely going to be starved for a win over the turds, and well, I’ve gone over how little returning production we’ll have.

I feel like Auburn’s entire fanbase needs a sport psychiatrist.

    • 2013: heartbreak against FSU. Blew a 21-3 lead.

    • 2014: late fumbles against A&M while ranked #3. Blew the remainder of the season.

    • 2015: finished last in the West after being selected as the preseason favorites to win the SEC Championship.

    • 2016: lost Softball World Series.

    • 2017: barely missed the playoffs. Had to watch our two rivals, who we easily beat in the regular season, play the NCG.

    • 2018: best basketball season in YEARS. Won regular season title, but had a disappointing finish after a central piece got injured.

    • 2018: missed the CWS after a walk-off HR bounced off our fielder’s glove.

    • 2019: double dribble.

    • 2020: the whole COVID thing. Not great.

    • 2021: blew a 28-3 lead at home against Miss State. Had to endure the Potato famine. Gifted away the Iron Bowl in the last minute.

    • 2021: basketball sanctions.

    • 2022: end of the famine, but awful football season.

    • 2022: won basketball regular season championship, but lost early in both tournaments.

    • 2023: heartbreaking Iron Bowl loss again.

    • 2024: early March Madness exit against a 13-seed.

All of this in the midst of a Bama and UGA football dynasty.

Nothing but misery since the Kick 6.

I love auburn fans. for the record someone said....just hearsay ....that auburn has a whole department devoted to this stuff................

Sigh. I know where you got this from (the subreddit) but I can’t stress enough how dumb that comment was. Really, going to the final four and the NC (in several different sports) as “misery” is re-freaking-diculous . I have the sinking suspicion that even if we do make the playoff a good portion of the fandom will still be on the ledge at anything but winning the whole thing. 🙄

  5. Sorry to DP but yet again, upon seeing us ranked behind Kentucky in several other rankings, it pisses me off hard that we’re not trying to get as many young guys starting XP as possible.

    -.-

We'll see what the rankings are at the end of the season. That piece never mentions defense, or names AU players at all , except for Coleman. Seems like the writer got a bit lazy as he went down the list.

Maybe, but how many others are doing the inverse with PT? Progression to the mean, I guess.

  7. Here’s my attempt to guess the sterting lineup for this year and next year (where I can):

    2024

    QB Peyton Thorne (Sr.)
    RB Jarquez Hunter (Sr.)
    TE Rivaldo Fairweather (Sr.)
    WR Robert Lewis (Sr.)
    WR Keandre Lambert Smith (Sr.)
    WR Cam Coleman (Fr.)
    OT Percy Lewis (Sr.)
    OT Izavion Miller (Sr.)
    OG Dillon Wade (Sr.)
    OG Jeremiah Wright (Jr.)
    C Connor Lew (So.)

    DE Keldric Faulk (So.)
    DT Isaiah Raikes (Sr.)
    DT Philip Blidi (Sr.)
    Buck Jalen McLeod (Sr.)
    LB Eugene Asante (Sr.)
    LB Austin Keys (Sr.)
    CB Keionte Scott (Sr.)
    CB Kayin Lee (So.)
    Star Champ Anthony (Jr.)
    S Jerrin Thompson Sr.)
    S Caleb Wooden (Jr.)

    2025

    QB ?
    RB Damari Alston (Sr.)
    TE Micah Riley (Jr.)
    WR Cam Coleman (So.)
    WR Camden Brown (Sr.)
    WR Bryce Cain (So.)
    OT Favour Edwin (So.)
    OT DeAndre Carter (So.)

    DE Keldric Faulk (Jr.)
    DT ?
    NT ?
    Buck Jamonta Waller (So.)
    MLB Demarcus Riddick (So.)
    WLB ?
    CB Kayin Lee (Jr.)
    CB ?
    Star Champ Antony (Sr.)

    S
    Caleb Wooden (Sr.)
    S Laquon Robinson (Sr.)

(NOT A RHETORICAL QUESTION, but does this look like a lineup capable of making a leap?)

(@roe4christ I erred on the side of seniors getting the start, which is why Perry still isn’t in this list, though I would certainly PREFER us to be set up for as many returning starters as possible for 2026 if that’s clearly not going to be the case in 2025)

If I had to guess, they are saving NIL funds for next year when we’re a bit more ready to make a playoff run.

See previous comments—I don’t think we’ll be a playoff contender until year 4 but I do think this team has a better shot at a 9-4 (w/ bowl win) type season than next. Both need to be better than 6-6 obv.

Auburn returns 66% of its '23 production - I don't know it that's good or bad?

Our SEC opponents return the following:

    OleMiss 70% - UGA 68% - UAT 53% - OK 65% - Mizzou 71% - UK 72% - aTm 67% - Vandy 64%

Ole Miss/UGA/Mizzou/UAT will be tough.   OK/Vandy/aTm/Arkansas we should be able to handle.

There's absolutely no excuse for even one OOC loss this year.  I've got 8-4 at worst and get a dang bowl WIN for 9-4.

Yup, after going out and getting Lewis, Lambert, Raikes and Blidi thereby adding even more seniors to the lineup does not indicate to me that CHF is viewing this as another recruiting year (assuming “another recruiting year” means 6-7).

Depends on CFH’s long term strategy. Does he think he needs another top 10 or 5 class to survive past 2025? If so then we should expect 6-7 wins because 2024 will again be a “recruit first” season.

If we had only 10 seniors in the (projected) starting lineup, he could possibly get away with that.

LMAO! Remind me of how Drink’s first three years at Missouri went again? He was the ONLY P5 coach Potato Man beat without Bo.

Oh man, my sides…that was a good one.

In fairness, they didn't have a lot of booster support, so I think they reverted to their small school thought process because they were fighting such an uphill battle. That hire was an unmitigated disaster from beginning to end. I blame Allen Greene.

I just wanted to add that because of Leath, we had zero leadership in December 2020. Put yourself in Jay Gogue’s shoes. You have to be called out of retirement because your replacement was such a [redacted]. You then have to guide the university through the biggest global crisis since WW2. Are you doing anything BUT mailing it in at that point? I fully believe the Gus-Steele saga, and therefore the Potato hire, wouldn’t have happened had Roberts been prez by that point.
