  1. It's just an arbitrary cut-off. It's continually updated as the teams move up and down the rankings. The NET rating algorithm seems to give pretty similar weight to a low Quad 1 and a high Quad 2 opponent. We have a lot of high Quad 2 wins, and our margin of victory maximizes the value of our wins. Otherwise we wouldn't be 5th in the NET with our Quad 1 record. Some people seem to count the Quad 1 wins twice--they look at the NET ranking and then look at the Quad 1 record to judge whether the team is over/underrated. I don't love the NET but that's not the way to use it IMO.
  2. Where is this "we can't get better than a 4 seed" stuff coming from? A bunch of media people who have no control over the situation? At #6 in the NET, there's justification for us to be a 2 seed! I have no idea what's going to happen but I'm not gonna concede that we're not justifiably a 3 or even a 2 seed. We've got a lot of positives on our resume, one of only 5 teams with a top 20 offense and defense, and only 3 teams with a top 15 offense and defense. Very fun to watch too!
  3. 58% FG percentage and 41% 3-point percentage at the 3/4 spot will get JW a real shot at an NBA roster, and a decent chance to be drafted.
  4. We are 11 point favorites over USCe. This is another game where I'd be happy with a W however it comes!
  5. Might we see our 1st close win of the season? I'll take a W any way we get it!
  6. There are plenty of ways for this very good team to get even better. Since the time of the OP, we've seen some positive changes in last week's 2 games: -A few more minutes for Tre, who is starting over Aden now -Better shot selection from Aden (1 game at least) -Greater commitment to rebounding A couple more ways where the team can continue to show improvement in a challenging week of games: -Less turnovers, return to care for the ball that we had earlier this year -Come out strong every game (esp. on the road) so that we don't have to dig out of a hole in the 2nd half to pull out a win.
  7. I was impressed with Aden last night. He showed more patience with the offense, passing up some good shots for better shots. In particular, they drew up a 2-man game with Aden and J Will that got Ole Miss scrambling. On one play, Aden turned down several half-open looks and instead found someone wide open at the top of the key for a 3. Another time, he drove to the basket and took a hard foul to get to the free throw line. He still took a couple of 3s off the dribble that were ill-advised, but overall I saw Aden play much more like the PG we need him to be last night.
  8. Just 2-3 plays go differently in each game and we'd have 2 tough road wins from the past week. I agree with finding more minutes for J Will. Maybe we can play with both Chaney and J Will as the 3-4 for a few minutes a game to cover our weak spot at the 3 position. I'd also like to see more screen-roll and screen-pop using J Will instead of a center. We do that some but not enough IMO. And I agree Tre needs to play 25-28 min a game, and finish each half, with Aden getting 12-15 min.
  9. We have a set where Broome sets a screen for Aden to the wing, and the defenders always go under the screen and leave room for Aden to shoot the 3 off the dribble, practically begging him to take the shot. On a miss, we're at a disadvantage because there's no one down low to get an offensive rebound, plus we're vulnerable to a fast break because our SG and SF are deep in the 2 corners. Aden has been missing way too many of those to keep trying them. We've got to find some motion off of this set that gets a good open look or stop running it altogether.
  10. >50% shooting and down by double digits at the half? They're gonna have a hard time mounting a comeback...
  11. Leaf blower work?! I hate to say, you got the raw end of that deal, brother.
  12. Elevated court, seems to throw off a lot of visiting teams. Bruce can't feed them the same energy from below the court, and shooting percentage tends to take a hit. I think this year's team feeds off each other more than past seasons. If we take care of the ball and play tough defense like usual, we should win comfortably IMO.
  13. I loved Flan's defense and poise generally. What I didn't like was him dribbling the ball off his foot out of bounds on every fast break. I didn't see any behavior issues but I'm not privy to what happened behind the scenes. Overall, I'm loving the whole-team effort of our current bunch and haven't missed any of our players from last year TBH.
