  1. When you look at the big picture of this game...Auburn dominated apart from their two scoring drives. Their early second half TD didn't phase our team at all. The offense went out there and got points.

You'll see Bama fans talk about how bad of a game they played as they did the same in 2010 and 2013. They should realize it's no coincidence that they have 'bad games' when they lose to us. Their miscues on the botched FG, early snaps, and dumb penalties aren't isolated incidents to only their team—they let the game get to their head.

  2. Can you bring any light as to why Bama had multiple open 3 point looks from the wing? Is one of our guys getting drawn into a double team leaving that man open? The defense has improved the last two games, and we even frustrated Kentucky some, but I've noticed we've seemingly been caught leaving an open 3 point shot.

Grew up a little bit today.

Hopefully this is the springboard we'll need to continue to improve.

I saw the team play like they haven't played before today. Wiley is figuring it out and realizing his strengths, and minus a handful of lapses on defense and some bad shots, we just played so sharp. Love to see that!

ETA: can we not get a post game thread going?

This is a concern for us every game to be honest, not just tomorrow. Due to our youth it is a safe bet that we won't play smart for a full 40 minutes unless we are out-talenting the opposition but when we have 3-5 minute stretches of poor offense we need to step it up exponentially on defense so the hole we put ourselves in is not impossible to climb out of (like the Vandy game -- we start the game in a 19 point hole in the first 5 minutes and lose by that exact margin, or blowing the double digit lead against UGA and never recovering..). Doing damage control on defense with our streaky offense will be the major key to watch for in these next 2 games IMO.

I feel that these are the moments when we should go to Wiley. Say we don't score on two or three possessions in a row, then we can throw it into our big man in the center for a higher percentage shot. It will also get Wiley more comfortable in a scoring role.

  5. A lot of criticism recently had been focused on the offense, yet our ability to score points is not what seems to be hurting us. It always seems to be our lack of defensive play.

So therefore, I would like to ask what is the matter with our D? Opponents 3-point percentages tend to increase against us because because we seem to ineffectively guard the three ball.

What does Coach Person need to do to fix the defense?

I think you will see less of Smith generally barring foul trouble for others. McLemore seems to play better at the 5 so I think we will continue to see him in that spot even with Spencer back. I would expect to see Spencer and McLemore play both the 4 and 5 spot. I personally like DP at the 4, and would like to see him stay there most of his minutes, but he has already been playing some minutes at the 3 since the addition of Wiley. More than anything, CBP is going to go with the groupings that gell, and Spencer and Brown clearly have to earn their way back, based off of Spencer's 3 minutes logged vs UConn.

I didn't watch any of the game as I had to listen to it on the radio while driving. But the time Horace did play sounded pretty rough. He committed a turnover almost immediately, and also fouled which I believe gave them two FT's.

I don't think it's as much of a PR thing as it is intended to send a message to the other players. Bruce is making an example out of these first two.

  7. Did McLemore play in Spencer's spot during his suspension? If so, in your opinion, did McLemore completely steal Spencer's place in the lineup? As in, will McLemore be first option over Spencer? In his games played, McLemore seemed more effective on both ends.

  8. I loved seeing how Danjel handled himself during a bad shooting night for him. He couldn't hit the side of a barn from deep, so instead he let others do the scoring and contributed in a significant way in rebounds. In my gut, I knew he had one big shot in him and that was the crucial tying 3.

still, he seems to have relied too heavily on the 3 ball since the CC game. He can cut to the basket, and I wish he would begin doing that again versus being passive scorer from 3.

Anfernee McLemore—huge game from him. It's been nice seeing him and Harper grow. It honestly looks like he's taken Spencer's spot in the lineup for now. He contributes well on both ends.

my MVP so far is Heron due to his consistency. He's scoring 15+ consistently, and could go off for 30 any given night I feel.

  9. As always, these reviews are awesome. As much as I didn't want to believe you when you said to expect struggles with the personel situations we're in, you were dead right.

ETA: I like that you mentioned Heron and his ability to make the right decision when passing the ball in. I'd also point out his heads up play to call the timeout right before that after he mishandled the ball.

I hope we can get at the wrinkles ironed out before these next two games.

I think he can per the rules. If he will or not I can't say. Personally i wouldn't expect it at this point. But we'll see how he does as the season goes along

I don't think he can because after this season, he won't be one year removed from high school. He's going to have to stay for 1-1/2 years, which just sweetens the deal for both parties. Going into his 'freshman' year, he'll already have 1/2 season under his belt.
