Brian Johnson would be a clown hire.
There are plenty of mid-major coaches that are proven and could flourish at AU. The problem with Harsin was Harsin not his resume.- 1

Brian Johnson would be a clown hire by every logical measure.

In his only 10 win season at OM he lost to Memphis

I hope Freeze is hired.
He is better than Deion, better than Dabo, better than anyone else for us (including Caddy).
He just needs to delete your daughter's phone number from his phone.
This is when you know opioid abuse is a serious problem

I honestly hope it's none of the names mentioned. I think there are serious, serious, serious red flags with all of them:
Luke Fickell - was born, raised, and has spent the entirety of his coaching career in the state of Ohio. Swap Ohio with Idaho and you've got Bryan Harsin 2: Electric Boogaloo
James Franklin - has spent most of the last decade as the Gus Malzahn of the Big Ten: wins plenty of games, loses a couple of head scratchers every year, and can't beat the titans of his conference, especially on the road. Thank you, next.
Tom Herman - underwhelming at Texas. Under/unemployed since he was fired two years ago. I imagine there's a reason for that.
Clay Helton - underwhelming (to put it mildly) at USC and a poor recruiter to boot. Talent pool-wise, USC is probably one of the five or so easiest recruiting gigs in the country and this dude beefed it. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Dan Mullen - brilliant offensive mind, excellent QB developer but famously on the (badly) losing end of Kirby Smart's "there's not a coach out there who can out-coach recruiting" speech. Nope.
For candidates that aren't being talked about, I would put Chris Klieman, Lance Leipold, and Sonny Dykes before any of the names mentioned here.
Go ahead and list the red flags for the candidates you like too 🚩

It will be interesting to see where Freeze ends up. If he’s such a good candidate, he won’t be at Liberty after this season regardless.

I would normally never throw this name out there but this has special circumstances. Would AU approach Jon Gruden? I don’t need to recap his resume but it speaks for itself. He wants to coach again, said a couple months ago he would love to try college, and his name automatically resonates with recruits.

In the era of a transfer portal the recruiting “prowess” of Coach Prime may not be as great as it used to be. If a coach cannot produce results those players are gone after a year anyhow.
-
It’s always the fall back candidate that gets the AU job. Let’s start the Freeze negotiations right now.

I don’t really give either of those credit for their NC. LSU was Scheme and QB, AU was QB.
They both won a NC regardless. I will take ours & the Heisman!

Should he be offered and take the Auburn job, would he bolt on us for FSU if and when Mike Norvell gets fired? Is FSU his dream job?
It could happen this year or next where you are competing against FSU.
It’s his alma mater and we would all be understanding -

No one believes this who is being honest. There are risks with all the coaches mentioned here including Deion. People just trying to convince us their coach is better. Personally I think Kiffin has the least risk, but would be happy with any of the 4 candidates mentioned.
People are not being honest to claim Deion is the best option. He is a boom or bust candidate. If he’s the guy, I hope it’s boom.

Deion is the only candidate that 99% of fans would be behind. Kiffin 50/50...he's a flake and a weirdo...I'm sure the fraternity crew would love it. After two bad coaches, they need to just give Deion the go...would be excited, and in no way can be worse than the last 2. Minimal risk other than $$$
Imagine Deion, Bo, and Chuck all laughing it up around Auburn together.
Why does everyone think Deion is a “can’t miss” coach?
He’s been a college coach FOR TWO WHOLE YEARS. He’s finishing up a third year. Oh yeah, the program is extremely small, a budget of about 2 million.- 2

So have we signed Kiffin or Rhule yet? 😂

Are u being serious?
There are dozens of examples of NFL players/coaches failing at the college level. Herm Edwards got fired this year. Charismatic, great tv presence, sells his “brand”…. Fired.
I can get behind Deion. I love Prime Time. But there is no track record. We are pumping sunshine because of his brand & potential. -
Why is Deion different than Herm Edwards?

We don't know if Deion could recruit in the sec or at a P5
He can walk into any house and recruit with anyone. I do have questions about, is he willing to eat, sleep, and breath recruiting? That’s what it takes in the SEC

With the exception of Urban or Saban coaches replicating national championship successes program to program is extremely rare. In fact Urban did it at 3 programs.
Rhule has proven he can build a program. With support he could recruit at a high level here, and compete for the SEC west yearly. I am hoping for Lane Kiffin to be hired but to be honest look at his track record too. -
These guys quoted conversations they’ve had with 2/4 QBs on the roster and people are hating on it 😂 🤡.
Everything they are saying is true. The entire season was torpedoed with the offensive coordinator debacle and then the witch hunt. It’s still on Harsin to make it work and he hasn’t. I hope we go with Urban Meyer.
-
Who is going to be responsible for the players going to class & remaining eligible? 3/4 of those kids think they are going to the NFL. With the transfer portal Auburn needs to be careful with the interim HC. If not, there will be no team for the next guy to coach.

What have we see so far from Freeze?

Freeze is the one that mentioned all the nationally renowned coaches wanting to work at AU. He set the expectations, not us.
