@tinman I don’t buy it. They want him on the roster. It’s also been reported by reputable people that the vols are trying to get him to wait just a little bit till they get a DC and try to sell him on staying with them.

Either way UT shouldn't be hindering  a kids chances to find a more suitable environment to play in because of their loss of institutional control. It's a bad look all around. Absolutely no honor in how they're playing these kids.

Don't be stupid.  I DID NOT say that only SEC players love football. But if it makes you feel good to think that Idaho, and Boise State is just the same in every way as Auburn, then feel free to believe that. I don't agree and I think he'll have a lot to learn. And I also mentioned that Harsin is ambitious. Did you miss that?  I said, truthfully, that we are behind now and we need a good class next year so I hope he's ready for recruiting. Considering the REC, and Kirby , and Dabo he will have a huge task ahead of him. Those coaches want it as bad as he does. If you don't think that's different than recruiting in the MAC then that's your opinion.  I never said he wouldn't or couldn't succeed so take the whining to the posters with the sad sappy posts.

Of course there is. There is a big difference between Idaho culture. and Deep South culture including college football. Auburn's players are mostly Southern born and bred and the SEC does football a little different too. And I never said the football culture was exclusively about the players. The fans are certainly a part of it. ALL of it will be an adjustment for him. The Iron Bowl will be his first dose of reality... especially if Auburn loses. Boise has nothing even close to that game for players or fans.

So you think kids that play football outside of the SEC don't love and care about the game with intensity? Why else would they play it? Coaches EVERYWHERE love the game. They eat, sleep and drink it. Many coaches welcome adversity and actually thrive to compete in it...I think that's Harsin. He wants to compete I think he's willing to go anywhere to get whoever he thinks can help him reach that pinnacle. I'll continue to think that until he proves me wrong, but all this sad, sappy stuff about recruiting rankings a few weeks after taking over a complete staff overhaul is just ignorant.

I think it is a monumental stretch to declare the program to be in better shape.  We will know that by the early signing period this fall. People easily forget the run of top 10 classes in our not so distant past.

Lol. Another oblivious apologist. Where have all those top 10 classes gotten us? I'll tell ya...6-4, 8-5, 7-6, 10-4 (disappointing despite record). Show me the money, man.

    My impressions...

First of all, for all you guys that wanted a coach to talk and complained that Gus never said anything, you got it! Harsin can go on and on and on and say the same stuff over and over again. In his defense, he was asked the same questions and he is still trying to get his feet under him at Auburn, so I will give him a pass.

Secondly, it looks like we will see what kind of developer of talent he is. I would love some hard-nosed guys with an awesome work ethic and a hunger for the game. I am not bashing the current players at all, but we have needed a little more physicality to the team, a few more "biters". So, if Harsin is not a good developer, this will be an experiment in mediocrity.

Third, we really need this year's class to be successful on the field and generate excitement for the future.

Last, Harsin talked about culture a lot. I'm wondering, is Harsin fitting in and recruiting to Auburn's culture or is he trying to change what Auburn is? I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this. It is really a wait and see for me.

I feel like he's trying to meld his football culture with the historical Auburn culture. If that makes sense. When he references culture,  I hear it as "I don't care how good you think you are, you're going to come in here and put in a lot more work to become more than that". Meaning tough, competitive nothing given attitude,  no matter what your star count is.

In the SEC absolutely, we already struggling to keep up while pulling in top 15 classes. I hope Harsin can develop these guys and get them playing up to their potential but a class of majority 3 stars is disaster, even given the circumstances. What's gonna happen, like with basketball, is in year 3 and 4 we will have very few good upperclassmen meaning we will not be winning. There's a reason why Bama had one of the best teams of all time when a bunch of seniors came back. I don't care how good a coach Harsin is, without top 10 recruiting we are not winning anything .

Well...I think our main problem was DEVELOPMENT and SCHEME. We're all very aware of the previous staff's inability to develop. We're also aware of the stubbornness of the play caller as the game passed him by. Not sure any definitive statement can be made on this class yet. Is it ideal,  you could make the case that it's not...sure, but until the end of next season and I'm able to witness what kind of development these coaches can do, I'll reserve any judgment of this class ranking.

I’m a USA alum so I was listening mainly to hear about the jags and then he went off about how our new staff can’t recruit in the southeast so they had to look at USAs offer list to find guys. I had to change the channel lol. He’s usually better than that.

Yeah...I live down there, but wouldn't surprise me if he is a bammer.
