  1. I was born in 82 so I can’t speak on Shug.  He had good years but he also had a lot of subpar years.  If he was hired as Auburn’s coach today I’m not sure how long he’d make it.
    1) Dye - he started the tradition of laying an egg in one game every year that probably cost him a chance at 1-2 nattys.  Still the most consistently successful coach in the last 40 years.
    2) Tubbs - very similar to Dyes run in my opinion.  2004-2006 were 3 really good teams.  Dominated top 5 teams.  Beat Bama 6 straight times.  Could be argued that he was stubborn and lazy.  Probably should have played for a Natty in 2004 and cost Auburn another shot with the loss to 6-5 UGA in 2006.

    3) Gus - Natty as an assistant, Coached for a Natty in year 1.  Recruited top 10-15 level classes consistently.  Lack of NFL development and skills for Olinemen ultimately ruined his offense strategy and sent him into mediocrity

    4) Chiz - won the Natty and that’s it.

    5) Tater Tot - 21 straight wins to start his coaching tenure probably won’t be beat.  Flamed out similar to Chiz.

we all know who the worst coach is….

Auburn recruited him out of high school and we currently expect one of our running backs to hit the portal soon. There is definitely interest between the two programs. I am not sure that would be an upgrade from the player that is expected to leave however, I know high school recruiting position has been tough and we don’t particularly love a lot of the backs in this class.

This is the first I’ve heard a RB is leaving?  Hopefully not Cobb?

  3. Is this Teaford’s first season?  I tend to like to give coaches more than one year because a lot of positive can come in year two but this is abysmal.  Didn’t Auburn return the majority of its pitching from last year?  Pitching was pretty decent last year wasn’t it?  Woof.

What I get ticked about is when people invest tons of money either personally or by a business into NIL, and the freakin University uses a competitive business in front of your face. I mean, why would we still be giving this money to these kids? We get NO return on investment.

the kids will eventually be employees of the university. Has to move to that to make it make sense.

Don’t even get a tax break like you do giving to the University or being a TUF member.

  5. A lot of these feelings probably have to do with what’s happening across the state

Football - playoffs every year.  Couple nattys

Bball - 3 sweet sixteens and now a final 4 in the last 5 years

Softball - Bama’s usually pretty good

#13 Baseball team as of 4/6/24

I don’t keep up with their other sports but they have one of the best PGA golfers right now.  I think the kid who won the tourney as an amateur is a Bammer.

Shouldn’t compare ourselves to Bama but what else do we have to do?

  6. I think Derrick Nix will have the biggest impact.  From all reports Freeze and Montgomery weren’t on the same page all season.  Hopefully Nix and Freeze’s familiarity with each other will make the offense look more competent.  Nix will probably lean more on the running game instead of asking Thorne to carry the team.

  7.  Im thankful for what Bruce has done but it’s time for him to feel some pressure.  There’s nothing Nate Oates has that Bruce doesn’t.  This makes the Yale game that much more embarrassing.  We like to beat our chest about a final four 5 years ago now but Bama is on pace to be the better program since then.

  8. Bruce is starting to get in uncharted waters at Auburn.  Everyone is grateful for what Bruce has done to make Auburn relevant but things have stalled out.  Meanwhile our biggest rival is about to play in its 3rd sweet sixteen in the last 5 years.  I don’t believe Auburn has made it that far in that time span?  I’ll probably get roasted for saying this but Bruce is getting a bit Gusish.   Win a couple big games, be in contention, but flame out in the postseason.  2023/24 Auburn basketball = 2017 Auburn football.

  9. Maybe the Auburn social media folks will start covering more spring practice stuff now that basketball is over.  It seems quieter than recent years.

It’s no surprise the QBs don’t look great at this point.  3rd system in 3 years for most,  Young WRs, and the 2 best ones are a true freshman and redshirt freshman.  If Walker makes it in a game it’s going to be in 2nd string cleanup duty.

Fairweather was Thorne’s best and sometimes only viable target last year so they should be hitting it off.  Probably will be mid season before the WRs start to become more of a threat.  Relying on a true freshman at any position in the SEC is going to be a hit and miss proposition.

  10. Outside of 4, Yale was garbage.  Auburn was worse.  This was one of the hardest Auburn games that I’ve watched.  It was so clear that Auburn was the better team and they’d get up 10 but then there would be a bad pass or a dumb shot that would kill all momentum.  Auburn beat themselves.

  11. They already released the 2025 schedule?  I thought they were going to do a rotation thing so every school played each other in a reasonable time frame?  Is it going to be 20 years before Auburn plays in the swamp or neyland again?

  12. It’s all a slippery slope.  A lot of the money that football brings in funds other sports.  If you make football players employees then you have to make all sports members employees.  Schools are going to have to pay female athletes the same as male athletes or you’re opening up a whole other Pandora’s box.  To me there’s not a lot of incentive for big money donors to keep pumping money into NIL because there’s not really a ROI or tax incentive.  At least when you make a charitable donation to the school you get a tax write off.  They need to let the kids who want big money go straight to a professional league and leave the college game to the amateur athletes and kids who actually want to attend college.

  13. No denying what Bruce has done to elevate this program butttttttt a pattern is developing that doesn’t bode for long term success.  Something is broken with recruiting and hopefully it can be turned around.   Auburn seems to be hitting their head on the glass ceiling and I gotta believe it has to do with reliance on transfers the past 3-4 years.  I’ve said it before but there is no reason for Bama to be out performing Auburn on the recruiting trail.
