Pat Dye, Bruce Pearl, Butch Thompson, Shug Jordan, Tommy Tuberville. I could go on and on. Every successful coach at AU could have gone elsewhere at some point in their career. They didn't.

I won’t even bother questioning whether Shug or Dye had better offers. Too long ago, don’t know. Tuberville is arguable. First, I wouldn’t count Arkansas as a better option. Second, just because Sexton used that threat every year to renegotiate Tub’s contract doesn’t necessarily mean there was ever a legitimate offer.
One former successful national championship winning coach that did indeed leave Auburn was Dave Marsh. I’ve seen you on this board numerous times complaining about Auburn letting him get away because of not providing upgrades and other things that he felt like he needed to stay competitive.

That’s exactly the same situation that people are concerned about that could cause Bruce, and Butch too, to move on to a better opportunity.

Who is the last coach of a major program to leave Auburn for a "better job"? I'm thinking John Heisman around 1899.

Who is the last Auburn coach to even have a legitimate opportunity to leave for a “better job”?

The one potential downside to last night was that we showed the SEC how to beat bammer with defensive execution and an inside power offense.

I am confused. How can there be any downside to showing the rest of the SEC how to beat uat?

Has anybody reviewed the incident with KD from earlier in the game? He seemed pretty upset over a foul that I thought was no big deal. Just figured KD was overreacting like KD sometimes does. Maybe there was more to it

i just think if we had a snarky board it would ease up on the other threads and folks could say they had a place to vent. without threats of course. i am still amazed when i hear folks wanting to meet to duke it out. the mods could use ti to get all the snarky folks in one thread and delete the whole mess..........lol

The snarky thread needs to be FOR the mods

My great grandmother had one under her bed for night time use! It probably smelled better than the one on this board.

Lol. You guys are all a riot! I am reminded why I have mostly been a “lurker” on this board for 15+ years.

My initial post on this topic was simply what, I thought, was a respectful reply to ellitor to point out that there were some very “convenient” coincidences in this situation that could, understandably, lead to skepticism from some Auburn fans. Wasn’t even necessarily talking about myself, but was, somewhat, defending other posters’ points of view.

Again, as a 15+ year “lurker”, I should have known better. I realize that my comments could be IMPLIED to insinuate more than their face value would indicate. I, thereby, opened myself up to a barrage of insults, criticisms, questions about my intelligence and, possibly, even my ancestry. I’m not sure. And that’s just from Mods. Fellow posters are nowhere near as gentle.

I, hereby, apologize for making any statements that could be implied as deviating from the “board’s” opinion or perceived as not 100% towing the party line. I should know that is not allowed. As a 15+ year “lurker”, I realize that I am responsible for any insults and disparaging remarks directed toward me by posters who know nothing of my personal background, education level, etc and I promise not to hold that against them if they ever have a case that comes before me in my line of work.

    Thanks and War Eagle!

P.S. Pot Pot is the name I received from my grandchildren. It is humorous but I accept it gladly.

May I imply that PotPot is only here to stir the pot?

You may not. It’s not allowed. 😄

I also don’t do anything else “pot” related, before you go implying that, lol.

All I’m saying is, we all knew last year that freeze would replace the entire previous staff, eventually. We also knew that he absolutely could not replace caddy or zach last year from a PR perspective. Still can’t. They have to leave on their own. Zach “upgraded” to DB coach at UH. Caddy, unfortunately, couldn’t find an “upgrade” from associate head coach. That is irrefutable. It is what it is. What it is is just bidness. But what do I know? I’m just a “dolt”, “bull****ter”, and “pot stirrer”.

what are you trying to say pot?

Nothing. You gave titan an “amen” on his reply to me and I started to comment but decided to just let it go cause I’m cool with you. I’m cool with everyone else, too, for that matter unless they just want to throw unfounded insults

There are people here who actually do know things about this situation that you clearly do not.  And they are telling you that neither of these resignations were made to happen just to get Freeze's guys in here.  It's simply not true. So no, you are not free to imply anything you want.  Not when it's complete bull****.

Everyone is free to imply whatever they want, even if it’s bull****, as you say. For the record, I’ve never stated which implication I was making, anyway. But twitter posts and “trust me” statements are not proof of anything.

The only definitive statement I have made is that we all knew that the previous coaching staff would be replaced by the new head coach. It could not happen last year for obvious reasons. But it just happened.
Now, if anyone can refute that statement, I’m all ears

The DB coaches were McGriff and Etheridge. They will now be McGriff and Kelly. If McGriff is a constant, then the replacement is pretty obvious now isn't it?

The fact that McGriff "left" for a hot second doesn't change who is replacing who IN REALITY. Kelly isn't replacing Roberts lmao; what a massive leap in logic.

I did not make the “leap in logic”, I simply stated which two positions were open when Kelly was hired

This twitter post by Charles Goldberg should give you some more insight.  It was indeed a university decision and involved lawyers.

The use of the word “lawyer” in a twitter post actually gives me zero more insight into the situation. Me, you, and everyone else is free to imply whatever we want

Charles Kelly is replacing Etheridge. Charles Kelly is not a "Freeze guy".

So your point here is non-existent.

One of the two is allegedly being replaced by a "Freeze guy"; who just so happens to be a very competent candidate that Ole Miss really doesn't want to lose (Derrick Nix).

Both replacements are actually upgrades over the two guys they are replacing, so in end this actually worked out from a staffing perspective how Freeze would have liked anyway. Bringing in Charles Kelly (who is an elite recruiter in the state of Alabama) with Saban simultaneously retiring is huge.

Charles Kelly is not replacing Etheridge. Kelly presumably replaced McGriff since that was the open position at the time of his hire. Or Roberts, since that position was also open. Does not change my point either way. My point was, new head coaches always replace the previous staff with their own guys. They don’t have to have coached with them previously to be “their own guy” now.

@gravejd Only because AU has stepped in and deemed it necessary for Caddy to leave. Your posts comes accross as we are forcing Caddy out to hire Nix. The 2 aren't the same.

My doubts on this situation are not directed at you, personally (or any other mod), so please don’t take it that way, but if this was not Freeze’s intention then it is a WAY, WAY too convenient coincidence that makes it ALMOST too convenient for some to believe.
Look, we all know and everyone warns us about what happens to assistant coaches when a new head coach is hired. Freeze came in to a situation where it was virtually impossible from a PR perspective to fire Caddy, and to a slightly lesser degree, Etheridge. Now, a year later, it still is. The only way to put a positive spin on it is for Caddy to move on to a better position or to plant a seed that insinuates something salacious that takes it out of Freeze’s hands. The first option didn’t happen, so…….

I guess we will see, soon, why Etheridge has to go. I guess that won’t have anything to do with just bringing in Freeze’s guy either?

I never visit the Lookalikes thread. The only two games that we lost in 2013 I went there. I went there a LOT in 2012, I think. I also never visit or do a score prediction. That's bad juju. I've also noticed that when I go to the gameday thread things are tending to go south, but I think that may be reverse causality...

Game day, we have special cups we have to drink out of. My mom and my cousin both have coffee mugs from departed members of the family that they have to drink out of.

Edit: I also am not above moving seats to bring good luck. Or just not paying attention to the game so that I don't jinx it. I actually spent the last half of the 2010 IB watching from the kitchen, specifically watching the TV reflection in the glass door to out back.

That is hilarious about the 2010 Iron Bowl 2nd half. I watched it exactly the same way except I was also pretending to be reading a Reader’s Digest magazine as if I had lost interest in the game. It’s only crazy if it doesn’t work.
