Went ahead created my prediction for starting lineup this spring. Excited to see this team on the field (only 3 weeks left) I went to a few fall games and based it mostly off those and last year’s season. Let me know if anyone thinks differently or has anything to add…

    Pitching Depth:

    1. Maddie Penta

    2. Shelby Lowe (hopefully healthy)

    3. Annabelle Widra

    4. Emmah Rolfe

    5. Malayna Tamborra

    6. Chalea Clemmons

    7. Icess Tresvik?

    1B - Amelia Lech

    2B - Rose Roach

    3B - Anna Wohlers

    SS - Nelia Peralta

    C - Aubrie Lisenby

    CF - Makayla Packer

    LF - Abbey Smith

    RF - KK McCrary/Icess Tresvik

    DP - Icess Tresvik/KK McCrary

Note: I have no idea what to expect from Mariah Penta or Kyla Stroud as both were apparently nursing injuries during the fall.

Good job based on what we know at this point i would agree.

Dean would have be dumb to be uninterested in the following portal players.
I guess my opinion on Dean in the portal is that he picks up a player each year, but can never get the big fish (or even the medium fish) to buy into the auburn softball program. I look at someone like Courtney Deifil who somehow manages to get a plethora of GOOD transfers to go to ARKANSAS, a team who historically, isn’t better than auburn. I just think Dean isn’t cut out for the portal life as a coach. Which is a problem.

I agree Dean needs to make a splash in the portal.  So far he’s brought in some players that have helped but haven’t been difference makers.  We have some real needs going into next season and the portal is the only way to fill them.  So I think we find out for sure this summer whether Dean is cut out for recruiting in the portal.  I hope he is.

  3. There are a lot of good players in the portal.  NIL and a chance to play on a contending team will play a big role on where these players go.  Im afraid we are down in the pecking order when it comes to getting elite players from the portal.  However, I think we will get a couple of good players  that can really help this team.  Kelly Lynch who was a one time Auburn commit is in the portal and would be an excellent replacement for Brie Ellis at first base and is a really good pitcher.  She is a Washington graduate transfer and is from Georgia I hope Auburn is trying to get her.  It’s hard to get any reliable information because no one wants these things public until it’s a done deal.

Thank you for posting this info.  I was curious to see how Auburn stacked up against the conference in both overall stats and conference-only stats.  As you pointed out the stats show that Auburn is in the middle overall, and also in the middle in conference play.  I did read Brooke's bio on the staff roster and understand he has a role in developing AU batters, although I'm not clear on the division of responsibility other than Lenti is the one giving batters direction at the plate.  Thoughts about whether Auburn is underperforming or are they about where we should expect them to be?

I think the only stats that matter now are SEC stats.  If I remember correctly we hit .235 in conference play last year which the best since I believe 2016 but I could be wrong.  I was hoping for about a .260 average in SEC play this year and the way we are hitting that’s gonna be a stretch.  I’ve never like the approach Lenti is teaching of being aggressive and swinging for the fence.  When it works it works well but when we need just a fly ball or base hit with runners in scoring position we are not doing very well.  We have 9 home runs I think we are last in doubles and have no triples, we are I believe last in walks.  Part of the reason is some our better hitters are underperforming and I have to believe they will come around in the remainder of SEC play.  So at this point I’m a little disappointed but not ready to throw in the towel.

Watching the game Sunday, the analyst said we were undisciplined at the plate.  Pointed out we were swinging as soon as the pitcher released the ball and not letting it get deeper.  Seems like this hasn't changed in all the years Dean has been here.  His friendship with Lenti may cost him his job.  I had high hopes, but his reputation as a pitching coach hasn't materialized here and his game decisions have been very puzzling.  I don't think Cohen will be very patient with him.

44 strikeouts in 118 at bats in those 5 games.  I never understood the Lenti hiring and now all of a sudden Lenti is costing us games as the third base coach.  I’ve never called for the firing of Dean but I’m very disappointed in the results so far this season.

Really looking forward to see how the competition at catcher and 3rd plays out.  I really liked how McCondichie performed at 2nd last year.  She has good fielding stats.  With Packer status up in the air there may be a need for experience in the outfield that would cause her to move there.  Any Chance that Victoria Draper or Tiffany Howard have any eligibility remaining? 😁

I have to agree with you on McCondichie she really looked good at second.  I believe she could almost play anywhere.

Most softball polls base their rankings off the previous year without much nuance on the circumstances, so they are not accounting for a healthy Lowe. I’m not sure if she will recreate her freshman year after surgery, but I’d bet she performs significantly better than last year.

I’m interested to see the lineup opening day. Dean hints some newcomers might displace some starters and some players will change positions.

Pitching: Penta and Lowe will split majority of the innings. Hopefully Widra / Tresvik / Rolfe can perform well enough to minimize the innings pitched for the first two.

Catching: I haven’t been impressed with the catching position under Dean since Veach left, so I’m excited to see true competition here. Blaine will be in the lineup somewhere due to her bat, Lisenby and Godwin both had great moments last year, and I am excited to see what Elkins can do. We’ll likely see all four throughout the season.

1B: I doubt we will see anyone unseat Bri.

2B: If Bryant is mobile following her ACL tear, I imagine she will start here. Widra and McCondichie will likely be her backups.

SS: I assume Peralta will start here, but Widra and Roach played during fall ball.

3B: Excited to see competition here. Cox and McNemar were great defensively, but I don’t think either were consistent at the plate. Looks like McCrary and Milanowski are competing. I also know Roberts has a big bat.

OF: McCondichie, Garcia, and Packer played early in the season then right field became a revolving door. Smith, Tresvik, Cooper and Cox played in Fall Ball.

DP: I imagine Blaine will start if she’s not catching. Bryant might fit in here if her mobility isn’t good enough for 2nd.

I’m not sure of her catching ability but It would be great to have Blaine behind the plate.  We would finally have a catcher who could hit.

I don’t really have a link.  Phillip Marshall reported in one of his articles on another board.

Better player behind the plate of all 3 catchers is Godwin. Hands down. That is why CMD kept her..  which says the other 2 cannot get it done all around.

I like Godwin she’s is a good catcher but has struggled for 4 years against quality pitching.  Hopefully she will improve her hitting over the off season. If she ends up being the best catcher we have I’m all for that.

  12. Godwin has been here for 4 years and she has 20 total hits against SEC pitching.  Lisenby didn’t exactly tear it up but had the same .208 batting average as Godwin  in league play.   However Lisenby was a freshman and has a lot of upside.  I’m not sure Godwin will ever learn to hit quality pitching but if she is the lineup next year I hope she improves in the off season.

Like Whiskey, I don't believe Lisenby played.  If she is not injured, I would expect she will be in the rotation today....she is a good one.  I believe Ellis and Blaine are both listed at 5'10".  Blaine, who has a long history of being very dedicated in the weight room, appears to have added some muscle since the fall.  She comes from an athletic family and is also a good basketball player.  Cox continues to one of my favorites since I saw her last year.  To the non-expert observer (me) she appears to have very good form at the plate the way she keeps her head down on the ball.  I was surprised they let Penta go so high in her pitch count at this point in the season.  Of course, they go to the St. Pete Clearwater Elite Invitational in less than a week so they better be game ready.  Don't recall seeing a HR go over the scoreboard....way to go Aspyn.  In the Seton Hall game, I thought Garcia made a very good throw from shallow RF to home halting a runner at 3rd.  Unfortunately, later scored on passed ball.

The reason Penta stayed in with a high pitch count is Dismukes is out for 2 to 3 weeks and Yarborough availability was questionable .  I saw this reported by a writer on another site do I assume it to be true.

The series has proven more interesting than I thought it would.  The play of Alexander for JMU has overshadowed even Fouts' perfect game, but she may regain the spotlight.  I noticed yesterday that Patty has Taylon Snow slapping.  Also pulled her for a PH in the 7th.  Can't imagine that happening to her at Auburn.

That’s  the second time I saw Taylon PH for in this tournament.   Their bench is so deep they can pick and choose which hitter is a better match up.   Against Georgia Taylon was replaced in the starting lineup.  Gasso said it was because she felt the replacement was a better matchup.
