  1. I don’t understand why guys like Jeremiah Wright do not get opportunities. 4 star recruit by some services. Yes, the moving back and forth hasn’t helped but heck the guy has physical ability. At this point, why does Caden Smith not get some reps?

    just my thoughts.

I remember a D coordinator saying the exact same thing about Spurriers O. Wayne Hall, maybe? When asked how to stop the Gator passing O, he said stop the run. I remember thinking what a DA he was. After we beat them that year, a statistician did his thing and Ole Steve had a back that averaged 100 YPG every year.  Not many folks knew that or even thought about it. Everyone focused on the pass.  Pre I phone days, those stat guys had to work, and they did good work. So you gotta make any O one dimensional. You can plan for that.

That’s a great point. It’s has gotten so much harder to simply “stop the run” with these spread offenses. Ever play is basically 4 plays in one. You have any kind of run game with the QB read off of that. You also have teams running a bubble screen to one side of the field and quick game to the other side. It’s a numbers battle that the offense has an advantage unless you have a defensive line that can disrupt.

A lot of different things can be done in coverage, but a lot Saturday will come down to D-Line play.

    #1 Stop the run

#2 Defensive Lineman can effect a quick passing game in a couple ways. First and foremost is interior guys getting pressure in the QB's face and getting him off his most comfortable spot in the pocket. On plays they are not able to get penetration they need to get their eyes and hands up to deflect short passes. Outside rushers and guys coming with pressure need the interior guys to force the QB off his sport in order to give them a extra second to second in a half to get sacks.

Colby Wooden playing inside (1" & 3") would be my plan to collapse the pocket and a lot of Jayson Jones. At 6'6 he can get in passing lanes very easily.

Well apparently this is just a Segway so he probably will be it in name only . But this goes to my main issues with Auburn…if we knew for the last 18 months that AG wasn’t a fit and not showing up to work, why don’t we have a permanent AD ready?

That’s a great point. I just know rich McGlynn getting anymore power is bad for auburn. Also not good for the next AD trying to come in and hit the ground running.

Why? Auburns compliance department has been stellar.

Auburn is required to compete with other schools for recruits with compliance departments that are not worried about making themself famous. Rich is more worried about telling students working for the athletic department they can’t give a player a pencil in class than helping auburn be competitive.

That’s a helluva of an assumption. We don’t know what type of player Hunter is. Just because he left doesn’t mean he is soft. His story is just beginning and we will find out what type of player he is. It’s seems there are two sides to this issue and hard to gauge who is right and who is wrong. Respectfully

Its not an assumption. He posted on twitter about a team that he no longer plays for. He needs to worry about UCF.

  8. I put a lot more stake in comments from guys like hall and wooten compared to former players that transferred out. You cant build football teams around guys that do not want to be coached. We live in a soft generation. Harsin has a lot to prove in terms of offensive line play, but I want a tough smashmouth football team.  I want tough players, not cry babies that run to twitter when a coach chews them out and holds them accountable.

  9. Is it just me our have we brought in more DB’s than can actually see the field? I understand injuries and the age of spread offenses. Did our staff have concerns about the position after spring ball. Interested to know if anyone has some insight. I support the coaching staff and who they recruit/ target in portal.

That starts with recruiting. Accurate evaluation, roster management, and culture fit all play a role. No idea what happened with Handy, but I'll bet we see less and less of this as Harsin gets his recruits on the team.

I hope your right. Sick of seeing talented guys transfer.

Signed by a different coaching staff. Your first sentence sounds pretty silly to me. Panic much? How many months have these coaches been here?

Other postered said it could be academic or behavior. My point was we have to stop losing players we sign. Period. I don’t care what the reason is.

If we want a defense that is comparable to bama and uga in scheme and to beat them on the field we have to start having bigger, more physical edge guys. 215 pounds OLBs dont match up well with TEs and 330 pounds OTs.

With transfer today, I would like to see wooten get more reps at edge. He can slide back inside if needed.
