ExtraInnings Softball just released their 2022 softball updates. Auburn has 4 players committed, three of which are ranked in the top 20.

    Millie Roberts - 3B/C - ranked #7

    Skylar Elkins - C/UT - ranked #16

    Emmah Rolfe - P/OF - ranked #18

    Jenna Lorde - OF - ranked #103

Not sure how firm these commits are or how they will be affected with the extra year of eligibility for current players.

    Who next

I didn’t realize we had any spots left on the roster. Maybe she can help with SEC experience but she is only a career .211 hitter so not too thrilled about it.

She probably didn’t play much good pick up tho but I want a Transfer pitcher to come in after what I saw last year from Sam I don’t trust her and KK is better out of the bull pen I want one of those Alabama or Oklahoma pitchers someone amazing

Who knows if Lenti’s hitting approach fit against  these top SEC pitchers.
Age had nothing to do with it.

If he is retained after this year I will be surprised. Our hitters even the vets that were counted on have regressed. Very very little power.

We need to fire the hole Coaching Staff clean house I want that Florida State head coach or Oklahoma State head coach!!!

Hearing that it's going to be official tomorrow.  Huge hire for the corndogs.

Well now they have a quicker shot on winning the National Championship then we do that’s the problem but we do have a better overall staff depends on who she hires

Why would we go after this coach who would have never left Baylor until LSU’s coach stepped down and the Baylor coach was a LA native and her son played for LSU. Did u miss the memo?

auburn would have wasted time even thinking about the Baylor coach.

No we wouldn’t have I would have offered her the job

Mulkey had ZERO interest in the Auburn job.  There is a list of reasons why she was interested in LSU.

    1. Her mother lives in Hammond, LA.  2. She already has 16 years in the Louisiana retirement system.  This contract will add 8 more and she will retire with a monster pension, in addition to her Baylor pension. 3. Louisiana native and ready for another challenge. 4. LSU was willing to do whatever it took to bring her to LSU.  Not only is she making close to $3 million/yr, but she will be provided a new automobile for use yearly, a $50,000 moving allowance, a corporate apt in Baton Rouge for 3 months, and an $80,000 yearly personal travel allowance that she can spend any way she chooses.  We have a coach.  I like Mulkey, but there is no reason to believe that we can't be a top tier SEC team under Johnnie.  Time will tell.

We want to win National Championship and more than one we want to be like South Carolina or Better one day

We couldn't get the Rice coach, who was born and raised in Alabama and graduated from West Alabama.  She chose the Washington job.  Oklahoma hired the Drake coach.  I can't remember the last time an SEC school hired a P5 coach from another conference to coach their women's basketball team.

It just hit me... bama hired Kristi Curry while she was at Texas Tech.  That technically qualifies, but that hire was more of a bunt than a home run.

I agree why did we not go after the Baylor women’s basketball coach it’s kinda stupid now the SEC women’s basketball is going to be so hard It’s not fair I’m tired of sec women’s basketball it’s to hard to win now with South Carolina Tennessee and LSU and Georgia now ugh why

Your arguments changes again once presented facts. Again, I’ll bite.

I don’t know the dynamics between Dean and his assistant coaches nor am I going to pretend to know. I don’t know who makes all the decisions or if it is truly a one man show.

The best hire Dean made was Glasco, but he left to become a head coach at Lafayette after 3 months. No one in the softball world would criticize him for taking that job. Rojas wanted to return to California to be closer to family, so I don’t blame her either. I speculate she was hired to a 1 year contract to fill Carasone’s spot while she trained for the Olympics in 2020.

Do you want consistency or results? Kettelhut seemed like a decent hire at the time, but he was harshly criticized for the hitting results in 2018 and 2019. Are you suggesting we should have kept him? If that’s the case, we should keep Lenti around another year to make sure there is consistency. Smith took a demotion at Arkansas, and Carasone took over her role on our staff.

The struggles Dean has faced from the Myers saga, players inherited vs. the players Myers inherited, and the fallout in recruiting are well documented on this and many other boards. Feel free to read at your leisure.

I wish I knew why we couldn’t hit the ball against Chattanooga. I’ve also said our hitting should be better and Lenti should not be retained. I’ve said if we don’t see improvement next year, I wouldn’t renew Dean’s contract. Hell, I’ll be the first to provide a list of coaches we should target. We all want the program to be a contender. Hell, we all seem to agree on what should happen this year and next if the team doesn’t improve. Time will provide us answers. But your arguments are flawed and, ironically, lack consistency.

What happened to lenti what he did at DePaul was incredible but I guess you just get old and it’s time to retire

I Agree with your points mostly, and I also see too much inconsistency from AU1947.

I think we all agree our hitting is no where productive, and our lack of power is a head scratcher, as our vet power hitters got worse, while no one has improved from the young hitters. That has to change, as both of you will agree with a new hitting coach w better success, hopefully at a P5 school.

As to pitching, Dean has brought in great pitchers, and I won't argue his using the 2 freshmen ladies over Yarborough and Lexie, as they are just bette pitchers and will get better under Dean I feel. It happens when better athletes are recruited, and existing players lose their position. That's competition. I don't any of us can argue our pitching staff results. Yes, Penta has struggled more in the SEC, mainly bc she just needs to develop a little better off speed pitch and location. An off season will do her well.

As to overall coaching, while I will admit, that I have not seen the team in person, I follow the team very well over the years, and understand softball and strategy. Dean, bc of the lack of hitting and production seems to be overtrying to manufacture runs and rallies by some of his ingame decisions. Most have not worked. If this is how he manages situationally, then he will not be here after next year, as even if you get better in hitting, a coach can still cost you games making situational baserunning and hitting.

Finally, Dean is bringing in, on paper, a very strong hitting group with statistically better power hitters. We will see if they make the starting lineup and if a new hitting coach gets them ready to hit, especially in the tough SEC. It will be tough to evaluate their progress as freshmen, but I will be looking to see how the existing hitters that are starters next year progress.

But in the end, bc of the lack of hitting and scoring, it's hard to pin everything on just the HC, as he does great w pitchers and is bringing in highly ranked classes recently...

If we are not top 5 or top 10 all next year in the rankings next season I’m going to be frustrated we want to compete for National World Series Championships.

Holy run on sentence.  Do you ever use punctuation?  Geez. This  is the 2nd time you have said Lexi is leaving yet you never provide anything to support it.  We are waiting.  Samantha has pitched TEN total innings all year. It's not a terrible year when other players are just better and are ahead of her in the rotation.   If Penta, Dismukes and Lowe all return next year, we won't need any pitching transfers.  We also have another pitcher coming on board in the next class.

Yes we do what happens if someone gets hurt?

  12. On 2/19/2021 at 5:44 PM, WarTiger said:

We definitely don't need any pitchers.  Our depth at that position is top notch.  Certainly there's zero evidence anywhere that you need 5 to win a title. That's completely ridiculous.

Well.... Samantha has had a terrible year which I didn’t expect I expected her to be the starter and dominate we should go after another pitcher in the transfer portal because Lexi is leaving and + Samantha probably will transfer since she isn’t playing anymore so we will need two transfers.

I have no idea how it will work out in the long run, but Vanderbilt knocked it out of the park with this hire. I would rank the hires as follows...

    1. Washington - Tina Langley

    2. Vanderbilt - Shea Ralph

    3. Oklahoma - Baranczyk

    4. Auburn - Johnnie Harris

    5. UTSA - Karen Aston

The promise is here is that we are going to win more than the others on the list

I’m not gonna lie guys. I’m kinda worried about our program. Not that I think we made a bad hire or anything but I feel like we could’ve gone and got a proven power 5 head coach. Feels like we are experimenting and hoping for a great outcome.

In less your getting the UConn , Baylor or South Carolina coach your kinda haft to get what you get

So of the five Power 5 jobs that opened, three were filled by head coaches from mid major programs (Wisconsin/Mosely, Washington/Langley, and Oklahoma/Baranczyk) and the other two were filled by long time assistant coaches from what I'd call elite type teams (Auburn/Harris and Vanderbilt/Ralph).

Of all the non-Auburn hires, I know the most about Baranczyk, who was head coach at Drake before taking the OU job.  Good hire for Vandy, too, I think.  Shea Ralph had been at UCONN for 13 years as an assistant.

Will be interesting to see how they all pan out.  And what dominoes fall now that all the power 5 jobs are filled - still 22 mid-major head coaching jobs to fill, and how all this will shake out in the form of Auburn assistants.

    Totally for sure

I can see that, but one of my problems with TWF the entire time she was here was that she ignored, for the most part, our recruiting footprint.  The first thing we have to do is get back into competing for AL, GA & FL pan handle student athletes.

I think we need to go recruit out west I want at few ladies I love to see in Auburn Uniform and they are both 6’7
