    May 8, 2024 · 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Championship, Saturday. 6:30 p.m. At a current $550,000, and with a contract that extends through the spring of 2027, the 52-year-old Gajewski certainly is well...

(not able to see rest of article unless subscribe)

I saw that, but his contract reads $120K per year:

    No Paywall: https://www.stwnewspress.com/sports/gajewski-given-5-year-extension/article_38e625c6-009c-11e8-ba5d-53aad743a0ae.html

    ARTICLE VI - COMPENSATION

    4.01 Compensation
    (a) The compensation paid by University ot Employee for services and satisfactory performance of the conditions of this Contract shall be at the annual salary rate of $120,000 per annum, prorated for partial years, payable in monthly installments out of legally available funds by University to Employee on the last day of each calendar month during the term of this Contract.

  2. Reported on another thread:

Oklahoma State’s Kenny Gajewski was targeted by Auburn, but has decided to stay put in Stillwater after considering the position, Ryan Breeden of the Stillwater News Press reported Monday evening.

News of Gajewski’s plan stay at Oklahoma State comes just days after he and the Cowgirls’ 2024 season ended in Oklahoma City after suffering an 8-0 loss to Stanford on Friday. This year’s Women’s College World Series berth was the fifth consecutive for Gajewski and the Cowgirls.

  3. Would have been a nice pickup, but I'm not shocked. If they build him the stadium they're promising (Cowgirl stadium holds 750), he should ride it out in Stillwater.

Looking at his comp of $120K + $84K bonus, he seems like he would be susceptible to a raise like we're throwing around. His contract was extended to 2027, so this would be one of the smaller buyouts. I'm not a SME on D1 Softball Financials, but there could also be donor money that is not public record.

    Next!

I don't have any inside information, but I think Cohen has at least his list in order.  I don't think a deal has been cut, because it would have leaked by now.  Assuming he starts working the list as soon as the WCWS is over, there's a decent chance we can name a coach before the portal closes.  (About a 2 week window)  If it comes down to the wire, players who are uncertain can enter the portal with intent to back out, should they like the new coach.  Players have no obligation to announce their intention to return.  All players who have said nothing may be intending to return, regardless of who the new coach is.  The closing date of the portal only applies to players entering it, not to coaches recruiting from it.  I invite correction if I'm in error about any of this.

    That sounds right

It makes sense to me that players would wait to see who the new coach is before deciding whether to transfer.   The portal is still open for 3 weeks or so.  Glad to hear rom the players who've announced they're returning.

Do you think we’ll have announcement before the portal closes? It’s a big decision for the program that shouldn’t be rushed, equally important for these young women and their futures.

Hi performance ($$$) coaches rarely come in and solve turn a program around with the existing roster. Ref UT & A&M.

All of you seem to be forgetting what AB did against Bama........she's not a slouch.

I think you're confusing us with Dean. 'Annie get yer gun' has her bright spots, but Dean doesn't believe in her, or enough to give her the innings.

i admit dean had a hard act to follow but i have never cared for him. he always looks like he stepped in dog poo.

To me, the hard part is navigating Shelby’s previous injury. She has not pitched two days in a row so far this season. We might see her pitch multiple days in a row this weekend, especially if we lose Game 1 on Friday or lose to FSU on Saturday.

Not to mention the underlying turd in the punchbowl: How we were eliminated from SEC Tourney. Have Shelby and Dean moved on from their exchange between taters that knocked them out? The optics were bad, I would have liked to be a fly on the wall. I don't put it on Shelby. There was a better choice to relieve Penta and the payer told Dean there was an issue, which he pig-headedly ignored and did what he wanted, which ended up over the wall. Don't let the door hit ya where the Good Lord split ya!

I’m not sure what coaches are willing to leave their programs, especially with the credentials you reference. The one name I’ve seen referenced towards Auburn years ago with the credentials you speak of is Alameda at FSU. It’d be a huge move if Cohen could make it happen, and I know we’d all be happy with the results. I’m not getting my hopes up though.

Gajewski is underpaid based upon his performance, his rivals in the sport just left for the SEC and he'd like to play against his former teammate & friend, Tim Walton. What about the former PAC12 coaches that will now spend their seasons flying from coast to coast, away from families, trying to recruit into that mess...there are some quality coaches in there.

I hope you’re right, but I’m almost certain Cohen will do the lazy thing and promote Carosone. Some of the players that are around now seem to not care at all, I would most definitely not be opposed to fueling up on transfers, but I do hope some of the players are offered a chance to return. Amelia, Icess, Anna, Widra, KK and Nelia have the potential to be a great senior class, they just need to want to win. Just want to be good again!!!

Same...but you hit on a key point: The players have to truly want it, not just say it or go through the motions with the new HC. Whether they like it or not, they've been auditioning for their next job since Deanb's retirement announcement. There won't be an opportunity to show that you want it now. The die has been cast.

KK McCrary announced on TikTok that she would be coming back for her 5th year.

She might be willing, but this is a 2-way street. KK can have the desire to return, but the next coach doesn't have to offer her another year. She could work something out with Cohen, assessing a roster spot tax and potentially scholarship implications, handcuffing the new HC. I think Cohen is smarter then to make decisions for a coach that hasn't even been spoken to yet. If she doesn't work it out with Cohen, the new HC will decide if he wants to offer her a spot. It's not her decision...we've had 5th years over the past 2 years that were willing and eligible to come back. Aspyn was declined, then later offered a spot. Lindsay and Carlee said they would return, but were not offered. I suspect KK will be in the second category as the new HC starts with a new slate and brings in her squad.

We're going to need some help, particularly in the pitching staff and we will need to somehow replace the good hitters that left in the past off-season. Dean should have been removed at least one year sooner.

We have Annie comin back as our Ace, Emma, and Alayna, so we've got a good start on a bullpen. I think we're finally done with Super Seniors in the portal, so next year will be a big reset in the league.

I don't think anyone argues that Dean drove this program into the ground. Mickey is a great guy, outside of the program. Anybody that believes he's the saint that he's being portrayed as on the broadcasts should take a long look at the exchange between him and Shelby in between HR's on Wednesday night. I feel for his health and wish him a quick recovery.

I wonder if Abbey Smith, Riley McNemar and the others that graduated early are going to transfer. We need transfers. I hope we have some hit the portal. Not saying they don’t have the potential but my God the portal will have so many better options.

Portal activity is about to go through the roof.

Dean should’ve been let go the year we were eliminated by UCF and Kennesaw State. I really hope Cohen doesn’t promote Carosone, but I’m like 90% sure he is going too. I think we need to revisit Steve Singleton, the hitting coach from Texas. They’re having an unbelievable season, pretty much everyone has taken a step up from last year.

The war chest I was informed of eclipses what Dean makes and gets into the Mike White stratosphere. It will be somebody proven, likely coaches in OKC every year...No promos from within. This is a 2-way street...We have to pursue and they have to be willing to leave a program that they've molded into a successful, perennial competitor nationally, including their incoming recruits. NLIs can be broken, existing players can be excused unofficially (ref Trisha Ford and Mike White) to make room for players/recruits from their previous programs. This is about to be very exciting for the fan base, but brutal on the players that stick around.

Today’s game is probably the worst I have ever felt about this program. The team doesn’t seem to care at all. Dean made foolish coaching decisions (again). If Cohen hires Carasone as head coach it will be such a pathetic hire. Someone has got to come in and reinvent this program because its a damn mess.

also, does Nelia Peralta jog to 1st??

She has always jogged to 1st, casual catches...I guess she's too cool to make an effort for her team. She will bust it to make a play occasionally, but is too casual most of the time. Very talented, not motivated. I bet she hits the portal, but her body of work this year doesn't match her potential...maybe SC will pick her up to replace graduating Denver. That coach is good at seeing untapped potential and motivating the players.

What I saw after the 3 run homer was a pitcher that knew she had lost it, and wanted to come out of the game so she doesn't hurt her team any further, and an INEPT Coach too stupid to take her out.

Why not put Widra in there for 2 outs?  She just pitched brilliantly and shut a team out that is better than UGA.

I am glad, glad, glad that idiot is leaving!

Classic Mickey. Our girls deserve better. It's an awkward spot....I can't wait to never see that idiot in his crown of crap-stained hat leave, but that means the end for these Seniors.

I think that she has just been beaten out for the catcher position by Wohlers and Elkins.  Her bat was never strong, and she also had that problem throwing the ball back to the pitcher.

I don't even see her in the dugout, I hope it's my old eyes.

Phillip Marshal said they aren’t naming a replacement until after the WCWS.

Nothing against Phillip, but he reports. If the Leadership was serious about this program, they would accelerate the timeline, name the successor that is truly an Auburn Woman/Man and put the clown in the hat out to pasture as special assistant to the regional manager.

The only reason I can think he announced it now is the players may try to rally around him throughout the season.  It could backfire.

The players despise him, but put on a good face for the sake of the program and their own careers. They want to attract a quality coach, so some of it is a show. They’re auditioning for their next job, which could be thru the portal.

if there’s not a coach named, it’s tough to recruit and keep those players that are committed. NLI is a little stickier, but players we’ve signed are also in jeopardy. Players have certain traits that serve different offenses/defenses better than others. I wouldn’t roll the dice unless I knew the program I was getting into.

The school plays a part in the show and will attract diehards, but not all of the gamechanger are Auburn fans.

Social media plays a part, that’s why we’re blasting out everytime we embarrass a JuCo or Mid-Major.

The move was necessary, but they need to name a replacement quickly to shorten the reboot phase next year.

Tripp McKay sucks and Ricketts hasn’t proven anything yet. These are bad options to me.

    In order, I would call:

Kenny Gajewski - Oklahoma State (longshot)

    Pete D’Amour - Virginia Tech

    Marissa Young - Duke

    Steve Singleton - Texas (Asst.)

That's a good list...I definitely think the next hire will be a woman:

Kenny G - You're smoking crack, but would definitely be a conference upgrade for him after all of his buddies flee his conference.

Pete D - Good chance he would upgrade his conference

Marissa - I've said somewhere else, so I apologize if this is repetitive...She's built a legacy at Duke and she needs to manage health issues within her family. The timing is not right to make a big move.

Singleton - Great offensive mind. He might think he's ready to take the wheel, but I'm not sure we can afford to take the chance. Does he leverage Carosone to manage D while he improves our O?

Ricketts - She's turned that program around from where Van left it and they are the dark horse in the conference this year. Speaking of Ricketts, she's done a great job maturing from Assistant to HC, which bodes well for Carosone, but I still don't think that's the answer.
