Yep. Finished 9-4 and took his team to their conference championship game. 90% of the teams playing college football would love to be 9-4 right now. Congrats, Gus!

The football concerns of Hugh should be a bigger problem. Itā€™s good that theyā€™re secondary behind the character concerns. But people are pretending as if some of us (a lot of us) werenā€™t calling him a worse Gus as a candidate. NO ONE wanted the guy when we were living the fairy tale that we had a handful of not terrible candidates. Now heā€™s a franchise changer afterā€¦1 top tier season at Liberty and having seasons at Ole Miss that we call failures for Lane KiffinĀ

    Ā

This is where I was at with this hireā€¦I didnā€™t feel the football resume justified the baggageā€¦hope he proves me wrong.

  3. Itā€™s not about second chances for me. Iā€™m going to support Auburn until the day I die. Win, lose or draw no matter the coach.

My take, and my concern with this hire, is WHY put the university through all the negative PR and split the fanbase for a guy who has really proven very little overall?Ā
    Ā

No, there were absolutely no sure things when it comes to coaches out there, and maybe the ones who were the closest to a sure thing wouldnā€™t come to Auburn. But there had to be candidates worth considering who didnā€™t have all this baggage. Ā The guy beat Saban a couple timesā€¦big whoop. Gus did it 3 times. Hugh was 1-3 against Gus who we let go. Ā
    Ā

Itā€™s not that I donā€™t think he can/will win or that he isnā€™t a good coach but again WHY go get a guy apparently no one else was pursuing and put your university through all this? In a world of ā€œMetooā€ it seems tone deaf.Ā
    Ā

Again, I will support him and the team as I do feel he has been unfairly painted in some ways, but itā€™s frustrating that we even have to have this discussion when we couldā€™ve hired someone else and possibly get the same results.Ā

I don't have a prediction. My personal choices are either Brian Johnson or Jeff Grimes. Both have all the qualifications to be outstanding head coaches.

I think some of us are more concerned with with winning the press conference than they are with the future of Auburn football. Hopefully Cohen, a professional AD, is putting the future of the program over any splash the press conference might generate.

What happened to Grimes? Seems he was a big favorite before the search began and Iā€™ve barely heard his name since? Seemed like a solid possibility.šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Agreed. I would welcome him over most of the other candidates that have been suggested, but thereā€™s some people in our fan base who probably still hold grudges toward their grandma for making an unwelcome modification to their favorite sweet potato casserole when they were in fifth grade.

    Dammit NanNan!Ā

Nah we won't... Auburn will just lose a whole bunch of fans... Bro you can be happy but please explain why we are the only P5 program that has even remotely sniffed his way? Make it make sense? There is a reason no other school went after him. All those skeletons that have been buried are gonna come out if he ends up with the Job. The black eye this institution already has when it comes to recruiting is going to be even worse with him you can believe it if you want to or not.Ā

Also sidenote I don't understand all this love for him like he did one 10 win season at Ole Piss and the rest was what Ole Miss already does?Ā  Is it because he beat bame twice? oh wow if that's our only measuring stick let's just get Gus back he did it more. What he has done at Liberty for one season was great but again he hasn't shown consistency with sustaining success. We will have 8-5 seasons or even worse with him because again IMO recruiting is going to take a big hit with him. Again IMO.Ā

    So thatā€™s a no on Freeze?Ā

There is nothing better than peace of mind that beyond a shadow of a doubt we have the right coaches in place for basketball and baseball. I was born in 89 so Iā€™ve never had that feeling in footballā€¦.

1989ā€¦man oh man. I remember 12 year old me watching Coach Dye at his peak, beating Bama in JHS in the First time Ever game. Ā My mom bought me my first score shirt later that weekā€¦.30-20ā€¦ā€Here or there we donā€™t care we kicked your butts in Jordan -Hare! 4 in a row Bama! ā€œĀ

    Ah good times good times.

  8. Except for a very small group, most of whom we assume wonā€™t leave their current job, there just are not any sure things. Ā Feels like some are more worried about winning the press conference than seeing who can win football games.Ā

  9. As a Christian, I find no reason to cherry pick other peopleā€™s sins and compare them to mine or anyone elseā€™s. There isnā€™t a person on this planet that hasnā€™t done wrong in some way at some time. Itā€™s especially baffling to me that it would influence how you look at hiring a football coach.Ā
    Ā

I am/wasnā€™t a fan of hiring Freeze but it had nothing to do with whatever heā€™s accused of. If it is Freeze Iā€™ll support the Auburn football team because its football and mot politics or religion.Ā
    Ā

Now if Auburn wanted to change their mascot name to the Auburn Anti-Christs I might have an issue with that.Ā
    Ā

Christian virtue signaling is as bad as any other version btw.Ā
