Does Malzhan have a protege?

Just wondering if there were any other coaches that have been educated in the offense enough to become a successful coordinator in this offense.

I believe Tooper is learning the O.  I thought I read that somewhere, but I really don't know for sure.

Actually, word has it that he is grooming Curtis Luper to take over as OC, and I'm pretty sure that's something I heard from ST. Luper makes more sense to me, as he is more cerebral, which translates to learning Malzahn's offense better. I absolutely LOVE Trooper Taylor, and I certainly wouldn't have a problem with him as Auburn's OC, but I actually think he's more the type to jump from WR coach and assistant head coach to a mid-major head coaching position. :dunno:

the offensive grad assistant used to coach at shiloh with him. i dont know his name though.

I think it's more likely that kid will be Malzahn's OC (or other offensive assistant) whenever he becomes a head coach. And just for the record, I do not think that will be next year.

I think his name is Rhett Lashlee.  Was Malzahn's first QB at Springdale HS.

Yeah, that's his name. I didn't know he was CGM's first QB at Springdale, though.

I like this^^^^....I thought I had heard it was going to be Troop.  Then after hearing that Gus memorizes the whole game plan I was beginning to wonder how that would work.  Seems like Troop is to much of a spark to be worried about what the next offensive series might be.  I could definitely see Luper being that guy that succeeds Malzahn.  Anyway you look at it Gus is genius.  WDE!!!

Obviously money talks and Gus could get an offer he can't refuse. That said, even if we win the NC I see Gus coming back. I think he knows we can be BETTER than we are now. He wants to help Auburn become a machine with depth and Cam's impact spread out more evenly across other play makers. Another reason Gus comes back is because he wants to continue to learn the HC trade from Chizik. Many stud OC/DCs have failed as HCs so he will make sure he is ready to take on the entire HC and at a program unlike Iowa State. You know he and Chizik have had that discussion.

Down the road, could Caudle be an SA/eventual OC?  I've read some folks talk about him knowing this O like no one else.
