More notes and numbers…

* Prior to last night, Cameron Newton had converted a total of seven 3rd down conversions throwing the football in his last 4 games. Last night against Ole Miss, Newton was 8 of 9 passing on 3rd down, converting six third down plays via the passing game. It was his most productive night throwing the football on 3rd down this season.

* In the last 223 games, Auburn’s offense has scored on at least 70 percent of their possessions during a game, 9 times. That’s a ratio of 1 every 25 games. Of those 9 games that Auburn scored 70 percent of the time, 4 of them have happened this season. Prior to this season, it happened against a conference opponent in 1 of the 5 occurrences but 3 of the 4 times this season has been against a conference opponent.

* From 1992-2009, Auburn’s offense has scored on 33.3 percent of their possessions. This season, Auburn is currently scoring on a record pace of 53.2 percent. In the last 6 games, Auburn has scored on 60.9 percent of their possessions, which is simply amazing.

* From 1992-2009, 27.6 percent of Auburn’s offensive possessions made it to the opponent’s red zone. This season through 9 games, 40.4 percent of Auburn’s possessions have made it to the red zone.

* Based on a rating formula that factors yards per game, yards per carry and TD ratio, the 2010 Auburn running game is currently the best in school history with a rating of 130.7. The 1985 Auburn running game had a rating of 128.2 and the 1979 Auburn rushing attack had a rating of 124.3.

* Auburn is currently averaging 6.43 yards per rush, well above the 5.60 average of the 1985 Auburn running attack, which previously held the modern school record per rush.

* Auburn currently has a pass-rating of 169.0 on 3rd down, 2nd best in the past 20 seasons. Of their 47 pass attempts on 3rd down, 48.9 percent have resulted in a successful conversion, which is the highest rating in the past 20 seasons.

* During the 4 games prior to the Ole Miss game, Emory Blake was targeted a total of 10 times. Last night against Ole Miss, Blake was thrown to 9 times.

* In the 5 games this season, Michael Dyer has had at least 14 carries during a game, the true freshman has averaged 108.8 yards rushing on 6.11 yards per rush.

* Last season, the Auburn offense set a school record with 16 offensive touchdown plays that covered at least 30-yards. Through 9 games this season, Auburn has recorded 14 such plays.

* The 1995 Auburn offense holds the school record with 54 offensive touchdowns. Auburn is currently on pace to score 57 in 12 games.

* The 1970 Auburn offense is the only offense in school history to average over 7-yards per play during the course of an entire season. They averaged 7.09 yards per play that year and the current Auburn Tigers are averaging 7.40 yards per play.

* Based on their current yards per game, Cameron Newton is on pace to rush for 1620-yards, Michael Dyer is on pace for 1044-yards and McCalebb is on pace for 796-yards in a 13 game schedule.

* Auburn is currently averaging 5.71 points per forced-turnover and are allowing 2.62 points to the opponent on Auburn’s miscues.

* From the “sometimes you don’t know what you have until it’s gone” category… Gus Malzahn’s offense generated 9 impact plays for 256-yards against Ole Miss last year and 12 impact plays for 310-yards this season.

Since becoming the Auburn offensive coordinator, Gus Malzahn’s offense has averaged 458-yards and 36 PPG. Not too shabby considering his offense was not supposed to work in the Southeastern Conference.

With all of these statistics being thrown out, I can't help but to shine the light on the O-Line. While their names won't show up on the stat sheets, they are the driving force.

I agree with Chaotic,  I don't know if you look at those type of Stats, but it would be great to see some stats on our O-line.  I have seen several pancake blocks and some huge lead blocks from a pulling guard.  Along with our receivers doing great downfield blocking.  This is truly a team that knows their roles and are happy to perform them.

Truth is, there's a lot of credit to go around when you're this good against SEC defenses.  The crazy part is we're getting better every week, starting with USCe.

Awesome post Stat - those are some eye-popping nuggets.  WDE

Stat,

Be honest.  You just make these numbers up, right?  I would love to prove this as fact, but honestly, I just don't know how!!!

Just kidding.  It is amazing to me all the stats you put out here for us to oooh and aaahhh over.  Thank you for all the hard work you put into your posts/threads.  I truly enjoy reading them.  I really enjoy your play break-downs as well.

War Eagle!!

I hope the NFL scouts are taking notice and giving some credit to Ziemba, Isom, Berry and Pugh for draft consideration.  I know the scouts are high on Ziemba but haven't heard much mention of the others.

Berry will be one of the first Guards taken at a running program like the Ravens or Jets.  His stock is skyrocketing.

I think Isom will be an NFL Guard as well, but not as highly drafted as Berry will be.  Pugh is an interesting case - I've not read up on any of them, so I don't know what is being said about Pugh, but I would think that an uptempo system like the Colts or Pats might take a shot on him to be an eventual "QB of the OLine" type Center.

Pugh's a little undersized for an NFL Center, but he is a very good Center.  It'll be interesting to see if somebody picks him up.

Yep, but some NFL organizations don't run much Isos and Blasts and have a very intricate blocking schemes.  Its often surprising to look around the league and see some of the best Centers are not guys you'd expect to be top lineman in the league.

For every Mangold or Hardwick, you have a Matt Birk or even a Chris Gray who physically doesn't quite look like the others getting off the bus, but is fundamentally flawless and cerebral as it gets.  For a guy like Ryan, its all about finding the right team.  Someone will go after him.

Thanks for all you do. I don't know where you find all the time. You chained up in a dungeon somewhere?

Just saw the replay and noticed a couple of things.  One, Cam was tentative on all his runs; didn't seem to want to finish. (Not a criticism, but remember the La-Monroe game?)  Second,  Dyer DID want to finish, and we have just been talking about that in the Bo Jackson thread!!  Also, didn't realize that Cam had almost all (188/209) yards passing in the first half.  Probably a "Depends" moment for me, but I found it interesting.  Actually guys, we flat blew them out!!
