I agree we'll use it for motivation but it still pi$$es me off. I was re-watching the game (DVR) and flipped over to ESPN to check the new rankings. Now I'm so mad I don't feel like watching the second half. What really makes me mad is that Ole Miss scored on our third string D and we took a knee inside the five against LSU and they used both scores against us to show that AU is "not a complete team". I guess we have to leave the starters in and run up the score to impress anyone. I guess winning is just not good enough.

Being number one or number two doesn't make a whole lot of difference. Just stay there by winning and you will play for the MNC. And then, the true number one will emerge. It only strikes at your pride when there isn't that much difference in the two positions.  IT probably motivates this team more than hurts it. This team hasn't been changed by the number that these yahoos put in front of their name.

While I do enjoy shouting "AU #1" all over facebook, I am perfectly fine with us being #2 or #3.  There are still 3-4 games left in the season for most everyone and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if Oregon, TCU, Utah or Boise doesn't show up one Saturday, lays an egg and gets beat.  Our season isn't over yet so at this point it is trival to get so worked up when we still have three games to play.  

We control our own destiny.  If we win out, I can almost assure you that one or two of the others will either barely beat a team they are supposed to destroy or they will outright lose a game.  Either way, all of this plays right into our hands as, if we continue to win, we will be the consensus #1 by season end.

You're right of course. I guess when I think about it, I'm not as mad about being #2 as I am about the way the talking heads show us very little respect. That and the fact that the bammers will be all over this for the next few weeks untill we shut them up again.

It doesn't bother me at all that we dropped to #2. I think it is a good thing. I think our guys will want to go out and prove they are the best in the land. I also am glad everybody is bad mouthing our D. I hope they are listening and do everything they can to improve. It really is time for some on that side of the ball to man up!

I can tell you who was the most unhappy about this ranking change, UTC's Coach!!!  Not to say we were going to be flat this weekend, but it would not be surprising to see us a bit uninspired.  My guess is that we just developed a big chip on our shoulders which is exactly what UTC did not want to see (and Georgia for that matter).  Making lemonade out of lemons!!

I think you are being overly critical on this. No way do Auburn fans in general prefer to be lower ranked or 2nd class. You are spinning some of the staements made on here for what reason I don't know. There are very few fans that didn't like seeing the #1 next to Auburns name and don't think we belong there.
