Demond Washington

I know he's getting a lot of special teams love, but I just rewatched portions of the LSU and Ole Miss games.  IMO, his cornerback play has really improved in the past two weeks.  Good position, good breaks on the ball.  Even a pick.  With all the grief the secondary has been getting, it's nice to see him stepping up.  Comes at a good time too.  Secondary play will be key in the last two games.

DB's have looked better.  Demond played very well against Ole Miss.  Even the first half touchdown that he gave up, he was in position to make the play and got a hand on the ball.  Just a great catch by the WR.

Has anyone else noticed our db's getting their heads around and finding the ball the past few games?

I have realized that myself. Washingto has done it all season and I think Neiko Thorpe is finally learning from him and turning around to find the ball. They also got off many more blocks SWaturday against Ole Miss and didnt give up near as many long screen passes. Washington has been the leader of the group and the others are alling in line behind him

IMO he should have made a play on Scott on their first TD.

The interception Saturday is obvious that they are starting to turn and look. If he hadn't turned his head, it would have hit him in the back of the head. lol.

Anyone should have made a play on Scott on their first TD and you cant deny the improvement of Washington and the entire secondary because of that one play

If I recall correctly that ball was thrown in front of him and he jumped it. He didn't have to turn around on that play.

Go back and look again. He turned his head at just the right time to see the ball and make a play.

Washington was 2 feet from Scott.  That's why I mention it.  He should have made the play and was in position to do it.  The guys on the other side of the field were not in position and could not have made a play.

That was Mike McNeil's play to make but he got sucked down inside and wasn't there.  Just because a player wasn't there doesn't mean it wasn't their play to make... and I know that it is the defense as a whole's responsibility to stop the opposing offense. We had players out of position and that's all that happened.

Now after saying that, I am extremely proud of the way Demond played. He HAS improved over the last 2 weeks and it is great to see.  And don't forget, no one has blown Ole Miss's offense off as a joke all year.  They've scored their points all season.  Our defense as a whole buckled down in the late second quarter and played mad the rest of the game.

59 second mark on the video. Looks to me he was watching Masoli.

loved every second of it, but it looked like an underthrown ball and a very easy INT :dunno:

I can't list who all wasn't there, but Washington was.  He has to get off that block and make the play.  I know he isn't Takeo Spikes, but we need some effort out there.

Not to rain on the parade, but on the TD catch in the first half, Demond turns his head, finds the ball, then tries to make a CATCH!  If he swats the ball away instead of trying to catch it, THAT would be a good play!!!!

I hope you all are kidding.  What do you want from the guy.  He made two plays that killed any chance of OM getting the momentum back.  He had a great game.  Do you all think it is easy playing corner in this league?

It might be a better use of time to criticize some of these posts rather than his play Saturday.

That ball was thrown perfectly from Masoli. That would have been hard for any DB to defend even just trying to knock it away and not catching it

I am not denying it was a tough play, but when I saw the replay and saw Demond clearly trying to catch the ball rather than knock it away, I was surprised.  The DBs first thought should be to prevent the WR from catching the ball, NOT trying to make a diving inteception with the WR clearly in better position on the ball.  If Demond had tried to knock it away and the WR still made the catch you would not hear a word from me about it.

Oh well the receiver still caught it and Ole Piss still got their @$$ beat... moving on

Demond is playing excellent ball and the secondary as a whole has turned a 180. really proud of those guys but they have to keep it up and keep getting better.

I have to admit the play of the secondary has improved. Against Arkansas not only were receivers open, they were wide open. Demond made two plays that took the wind out of the OM's sails. The pic, which the offense turned into a 98 yard drive for six and the KO return for another TD. Take away the 83 yarder on the second play of the game and the D came ready to play. Without a doubt, this group is getting better....and at just the right time.

Weak offenses tend to make defenses look better.
