Possible NCAA Violations??

Not too long ago someone on here made a post about all the Cam merchandise being made. Well, on SEC Gridiron Live's Facebook page, I just saw the following post:

"So, we've all seen the catchy Cam Newton t-shirts out there, but it sounds like you won't be seeing them for long (possible NCAA violations). Regardless, we want to know in tonight's "Thumb It In" question, what's the best Cam Newton-ism you've seen?"

Do you guys think anything will come of this? It isn't like the shirts are official Auburn merchandise, and I'm pretty sure he isn't getting money from the merchandise.

As long as they arent official AU merchandise we're fine. AU cant make money directly off his name just like they cant put his name on #2 jerseys.

No. I know this though, Russell is making Cam Newton shirts at the universitys request. Me and my Dad both work for Russell is how I know. I haven't seen them yet nor has he but he said that whatever is on them has been cleared by the CLC and NCAA so there is nothing illegal about them.

Just curious, but why would AU ask Russell to make some sort of Cam Newton shirt if AU has a contract with Under Armor?

If Auburn isn't making the shirts and Cam isn't making the shirts or receiving any benefit from it, I don't think there is anything they can do. That's my personal opinion and it may turn out to be wrong...But that's what I "think" anyway.

There at Tiger Rags for sale, or at least I got an email advertising them.

Well if the university is dumb enough to market an officially licensed Cam shirt knowing NCAA rules prohibit them, I hope who ever had the bright idea is drug outside and kicked in the junk repeatedly. I'm really hoping there isn't someone that stupid working there, making that kind if dumb decision. :-\

Idk, apparently Under Armour cant get the job done. So they go to ole reliable. Russell still makes shirts for them though. They probably always will. Just because Under Armour makes the jerseys doesn't mean that other companies cant make apparel for them. We are still signed with them in that category.

And once again whatever is on them is perfectly legal, its been cleared by the NCAA.

What's the big deal about Russell making Auburn shirts?  10000 companies make Auburn shirts despite UA being our "official" supplier.  Heck, even Nike makes Auburn stuff still despite the fact that they've never had a relationship with us...and they do this despite being a direct competitor to UA.  Hell, even Old Navy is making and selling officially licensed college gear, including Auburn stuff.

Any officially licensed merchandiser can manufacture and distribute officially licensed products.  Any shirt or other merchandise with the name "Cam"  or his likeness on it is not officially licensed.  It is illegal for anybody to profit from a college athlete's name or likeness.  Examples are the NCAA video games.  They can not use current athletes on the covers and can't actually name the athletes in the game.   It is also against NCAA rules for Auburn University to authorize anybody to manufacture anything with the "Cam" name on it.   Auburn University nor Cam Newton can profit from anything bearing his name or likeness.

Like I said. Neither of us have seen the actual shirts. If what you say is correct I guess they just have a #2 on them  :dunno:

Me and my friend made Cam t-shirts for us, but we aren't selling them, although people have been begging. haha

There is nothing wrong with that as long as yu aren't profiting from the sale of them.

companies can make and distribute the shirts and make a profit off of them. as long as the university and cam do not recieve any kick backs everything will be goo. plus, the school and staff are way to smart to go down that road!

I believe all profit should go to a mentoring program for children. That would make it non-profit. Another good cause would be the Coleman fund. Anything that helps the community and player's causes would probably be acceptable to all.
