GenTso 0
The SEC should just ban MSU from a bowl game for their petty, jealous actions and for circumventing the way these rumors and potential violations are normally resolved. What's one more year without a bowl game for the bulldog litter?

bzlivn 0
Bump. I thought we should give State the same concideration we want for Cam. However after last nights news, Mullen needs to cull his nuts.
45Tiger 0
well, if you look at it objectively the only even semi credible(first hand) info to come out of this was Bond's original story of a former MSU player/booster soliciting cash from MSU through another former player/booster. I'd say they have the most reason of anyone to be worried. that much is obvious.
au_weagle 0
If we ever actually hear these phone conversations, or if the NCAA confirms they exist, we're done. Otherwise as a team we need to hold fast and stick with Cam over these Miss St allegations.

I disagree. even if tapes do exist they still have to have either Cam or Cecil saying something thats definitely incriminating. its not a stretch to believe they talked to numerous MSU contacts. its also pretty easy to take conversations, especially excerpts of conversations, completely out of context. wiljam08 0
I agree. What I have seen as the quotes from these converstions could mean something totally different than what most people are assuming when given the right context. I mean we are talkign about 1 sentence out of an entire conversation. Also, there is nothing explicit in those statements. "the money was too much" could just as easily refer to the travel costs for the Newton's to attend games or visit their son. Starkville is after all much further away from Atlanta thatn Auburn. In fact I believe one of the factors that Cecil Newton mentioned in his decision for Cam to come to Auburn was its proximity to Atlanta. Without context that statement has no legs. Also, "more than a scholarship" doesn't necessarily mean $$$. There were more factors that just being offerred a scholarship that went into their decision, as there are in the decisions of most kids when they decide where to attend school. I actually know multiple peopel who have turned down scholarships to one school to attend another school on their own dime becasue it was "going to take more than a scholarshipt" to get them to that school. Also, didnt these sources say that this information was turned over to the NCAA in January? Yet Cam was still cleared to play. These so called "news" storied hold about as much water as a sieve. I'm sure in the next few days we will be hearing from another unnamed source about how Cam allegedly was at fault for teh gulf oil spill also. savorytiger 182
Alright, here's my totally biased/made up account at putting the two quotes together. Cecil tells MSU that it'll take much more than scholarship money for Cam to go to MSU, to which he meant MSU just didn't have the players he wanted to see to place Cam. So, the missing link here is that someone at MSU misinterprets this and actually tries to offer them money. This was the last straw, and they totally pull away from MSU. Cam later calls a friend wondering why they decided against MSU and mentions that "the money was too much" meaning that being offered money closed the door on the recruitment. One can hope, right? 45Tiger 0
I think in light of how the entire situation played out and continues to play out its actually not hoping but the most plausible explanation. its about the only scenario I have seen that takes everything we KNOW into account and makes it all fit. bmartin3228 117
Wait... even if their was talk about money, If Cam never received money then he is still OK?(or is that not right) The negative part is that it looks bad, also, if this conversation happened then I'm guessing the NCAA would start investigating Auburn to find out if anyone gave Cam money to come to Auburn. 45Tiger 0
the way I understand it is if Cam never received money from a booster of either school his amateur status is fine and he is clear. if it can be proven that a representative of MSU, meaning an employee or booster by the NCAA's definition, made an offer to pay Cam for him to come there they are guilty and will be sanctioned...even if no money ever changed hands. if it can be proven Cam or someone close to him took cash he is no longer an amateur athlete and his eligibility ended at that moment. so if AU has been cleared for any money changing allegations all we are concerned about is Cam's amateur status. all the other crap out there is Heisman smear bs without any real consequences to worry about. wiljam08 0
actually, he would not have to have taken money to be in trouble. If it can be proven that he or someone representing him solicited payments it is just as good as taking money.

Bro Johnny Mac 1,287
Its real simple, you cant hide $200,000.If Cam and father are dirty, the money will be found,if they cant follow a paper trail, its all good.
MarcAntony 0
Dan Mullen is now a HUGE player in this fiasco and I advise that everyone consider him as such. He'd been able to lay low in all this.....UNTIL.......until his Asst Coaches called up the media and fed them the pay-for-play story. Dan Mullen is DIRECTLY responsible for his two assistant coaches feeding information to the media and unless I'm not aware of something, then he is a GUILTY SOB. As guilty as anyone - as guilty as Thayer Evans, Mark Schlabach, Chris Low, PETE THAMEL, etc etc. Dan Mullen needs to explain why his coaching staff are breaking NCAA bylaws and feeding information to media.
