It is possible to win the NC without going to the orange bowl...we all know that from last year. I myself would like to see Auburn win out, go to the orange bowl, and win the NC outright.... But as confusing as college football rankings get, I could also see Auburn winning out, ending at #3 in the nation, winning their bowl game and splitting a NC tying at # 1 at the end of the post season.

oh, where would this board be without the word "IF"?

Its good to talk about "what" ifs..... Looking at how this season is going, I am a very proud auburn fan actually being able to talk about a NC midway through the season.

Win out?? You mean next game...anything can happen. Just ask UGA. I hope the team isn't as gitty as us fans are...nothing wrong with being excited but it can all change in 60 minutes.

There is a reason you're not hearing a lot of Auburn fans calling into radio shows talking about NC...

While we don't need to be tlaking about it on radio shows, guys you don't have to be so scared to start talking about the possibility of a NC. What does it hurt? You are thinking about it anyway. Is our biggest foe ourselves? Sure, but we are not the ones who are going to be playing the game. Our team better not be having these kind of discussions (but of course you know it is in their heads), but it doesn't hurt anything for us to talk about it. We (the fans) don't have to take it one game at a time because we don't play the game. We can dream and hope and imagine and even discuss the possibility. We are closer than we have been in a long long time. Do you think the team is going to read this board and become complacent about the next game because you or I are thinking about big things? Do you think that the papers and ESPN are going to stop talking about it because we do? I, for one, am going to keep talking about it. We are not a shoe in yet. They won't hand us an invitation because we 6-0, but us talking about it will not cause our team to fall apart. They have to be ready to deal with this pressure because it is coming whether we talk about it or not. Could we lose again? Sure, it is possible. But until then.... War Eagle!!! National Champions 04-05!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I believe!!!!! ANd please don't rebuke me!!!!!!!!

With last year's fallout, I'd hope that would be difficult.

Just look at the Patriots. ESPN has been going nuts over the Pats breaking the NFL's longest winning streak. You've got to think their fans were doing the same. But everytime any player or coach was interviewed, the response was "One game at a time" or to that effect. So they went out, beat the Dolphins, and broke the record. I feel sure that :au: will respond the same way. No matter how much chatter goes on around them, they will get out there and win.

:arky:<_<

I look at it this way. How long did the coaching staff allow AU to bask on the LaTech game? They looked at the film on Sunday, saw what they did good or bad, and then they started talking Arkansas. Arkansas will be all the players hear, see, eat and drink this week. And could the players be looking ahead? Sure, but probably not. We have Kentucky and Ole Miss after the Ark game, then a week off before the UGA game. I bet the players are completely focused on Ark. If they are worried about UK or UM, then they have their priorities all wrong. I don't believe that is the case. This team might have it's eyes on the prize, but I feel the prize is a win over Ark.

There is too little separating the top 15 or so teams that it is absolutely foolhardy to be talking MNC...you gotta have a really good team and some good fortune go your way for that to happen (Clint Stoerner's fumble against Tennessee in 1998 jumps to mind).

The only thing on my mind right now is Arkansas...they would love nothing better than to hand us our first loss.
